Book excerpt: For the modern Christian woman living in today's sexually charged society, embracing God's design for sex and purity can often feel like an impossible pursuit. As the culture seeks to normalize things such as pornography, erotica, and casual sex, both single and married women of all ages feel immense pressure to conform. With alluring temptations constantly inviting them to join in, they might even begin to question whether God's design is truly good. They wrestle with questions like - What is the purpose of my sexuality? - What does it mean to pursue purity? - Are my sexual longings good or bad? In this encouraging book, Kristen Clark and Bethany Beal share honestly about their own struggles and victories, and invite women on a personal journey to discover and reclaim a biblical vision for their sexuality. Kristen and Bethany help women understand why God's design for sexuality is good, relevant, and leads to true hope and lasting freedom.
Download or read book The Only Girl written by Robin Green and published by Little, Brown. This book was released on 2018-08-21 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A raucous and vividly dishy memoir by the only woman writer on the masthead of Rolling Stone Magazine in the early Seventies. In 1971, Robin Green had an interview with Jann Wenner at the offices of Rolling Stone magazine. She had just moved to Berkeley, California, a city that promised "Good Vibes All-a Time." Those days, job applications asked just one question: "What are your sun, moon and rising signs?" Green thought she was interviewing for a clerical job like the other girls in the office, a "real job." Instead, she was hired as a journalist. With irreverent humor and remarkable nerve, Green spills stories of sparring with Dennis Hopper on a film junket in the desert, scandalizing fans of David Cassidy and spending a legendary evening on a water bed in Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s dorm room. In the seventies, Green was there as Hunter S. Thompson crafted Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and now, with a distinctly gonzo female voice, she reveals her side of that tumultuous time in America. Brutally honest and bold, Green reveals what it was like to be the first woman granted entry into an iconic boys' club. Pulling back the curtain on Rolling Stone magazine in its prime, The Only Girl is a stunning tribute to a bygone era and a publication that defined a generation.

Download or read book Beyond Sex and Gender written by Wendy Cealey Harrison and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2002-07-24 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The central argument of this book is that the sex//gender distinction is invalid and must be transcended. To this end, the work of Foucault, Connell, Goffman, Garfinkel, Butler, Freud, Derrida, Saussure, Lacquer and Kessler and McKenna is woven into a rich and compelling set of arguments. The sex//gender distinction is attacked for producing a series of irresolvable traps. However much one tries to think one's way out of the dichotomy, one ends up being suckered back into its imponderables and blind alleys. The book attempts to comprehensively reorientate the field and redefine the terrain.
Download or read book Sex and the Goddess written by Karin E Weiss Ph.D. and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-11-20 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been over twenty years since the full manuscript of my book was edited for publication in 1998. I had begun writing it in the previous decade, the 1980’s... a period of flourishing women’s liberation movements against the patriarchal status quo. Books about women’s sexuality and spirituality were flooding the bookstores, and many writers were producing profound studies of the untold heroism of women throughout history. I was a pioneer in the burgeoning field of Sex therapy and education at the University of Minnesota Medical School’s “Program in Human Sexuality.” In addition, I conducted women’s self-enrichment groups and workshops in my private practice... “Woman’s Discovery Institute” ... where I also gave professional Astrology readings and classes. This rich mix of psychology, philosophy, spirituality, and a knowledge of the cyclic patterns of life shown by astrology created within me an avid interest in researching women’s unsung heroism throughout history. It brewed in me a heady fascination to stitch it all together in a circle montage that connects all women and all aspects of our multi-layered lives. I based my theory on the lunar cycle, which is eternally linked to women’s menstrual, emotional, and psychic cycles. With a friend, I created a series of workshops for women to celebrate their many-faceted selves and gain confidence to pursue their goals. Yet for various reasons my book manuscript remained in my own bookshelf, never getting published. Until now... the times again call for women to claim their autonomy and gain equality in an overly male-dominated and viciously callous world. I am blessed to find in Xlibris a publisher ready to take on the project with me. I am thrilled to finally see my “Life’s Masterwork” in print. You will find many divergent ideas in these two volumes. No single woman encompasses all that are described, but as you read and recognize these characters in yourselves and your friends, I hope it will help you gain a full appreciation of your own awesome erotic spirit and sacred sexual powers.

Download or read book Silk and Potatoes written by Adam Roberts and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2022-06-08 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study constitutes the first to analyse the remarkable surge in popularity of Arthurian literature and art in the modern period from a broad range of instances of cultural production. More novels with Arthurian themes have been published since the war than in any previous period, and Silk and Potatoes provides detailed readings of some of the most famous, including works by Marion Zimmer Bradley, Anthony Burgess, C.J. Cherryh, Guy Gavriel Kay, Mary Stewart, Jack Vance and T.H. White. In addition to examining Arthurian fiction (with chapters on the general novel, Historical fiction and Science Fiction), this study examines the key cinematic examples of Arthuriana (Boorman’s Excalibur, Bresson’s Lancelot du Lac, Rohmer’s Perceval Le Gallois and Monthy Python and the Holy Grail). A further chapter goes on to look at the myriad other forms of cultural production based on Arthurian themes; from Bugs Bunny to Pop Music, from the Camelot of JFK to the British National Lottery. This is a study that touches on many aspects of Arthuriana whilst developing two connected arguments about (on the one hand) the necessary anachronism of any modern Arthurian Literature, and (on the other) the aesthetic-political implications of this literature’s success. The whole, whilst rooted in the scholarly debates on the enduring appeal of King Arthur, is written in an accessible and entertaining style. It will be of interest to students and teachers of Arthurian literature, film and popular culture.

Download or read book The Stone Heart written by Leo Harrell Lynn and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2016-11-11 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “These words are my only way out of this self-built dungeon. I am not seeking redemption or salvation— I long ago traded God’s grace for pride and praise. This journal is meant for those who still fall for the fairytale of true love, to educate them in the folly behind this mindless faith by revealing the ravages that come from believing in hopes and dreams, in passion and love. My only hope is that readers of this diary discover what I found out too late—that believing in the lie that is true love is a dead end. Maybe then, those who read these words will understand why I threw myself into the restless azure waves 150 feet below my front window. My journal, bound in a cover made from a burlap bag that once held oysters my daddy shucked and ate, lies wedged between two rocks on the cliff ’s edge, so it will not blow over the side and join my body amidst the shells and stones below. I start at the beginning. I tell the truth, even about the lies LEO HARRELL LYNN, in his stunning debut novel, THE STONE HEART, eloquently explores a family’s unsteady quest for love and their place in the world...a timeless tale of love, loss, and longing, and the lengths one will go to fight the long loneliness...
Download or read book Lucid Sex Revolutionize Your Sex Life written by David Sinclair and published by Magus Books. This book was released on with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lucid sex is to sex as lucid dreaming is to dreaming. Most people sleepwalk through life – never once waking up – and much the same is true of their sex life. Vanilla sex, missionary position sex, is barely sex at all. You need to get your kink on before you can enjoy true sex. Lucid sex is all about understanding the immensely powerful unconscious forces that impact our sex lives. By mastering these – via role play, ritual, BDSM, and so on – you can find out all about your deep self, and not only vastly improve the quality of your sex life, but also become a better and much more powerful person in the process. You can use kink to achieve Jungian individuation. What's not to like? Imagine how much happier you would be if you understood why you search for those particular things on Pornhub that so get you going, and if your actual sex life reflected what you constantly dream of. How do you ask for the sex you really want, but are too scared to mention? It's time to get lucid – sexually, and in every other part of your life … because they're all connected.
