Book excerpt: Excerpt from Graham System Shorthand Simplified, Vol. 1 There are other points about which the author will speak in the preface to the final edition; and, if the book seems to be lacking in some particular, he asks that judgment be suspended until that time. Sample pages and plans of the entire book have already been submitted to many noted writers and reporters, all of whom have given their unqualified endorsement of same. But I have not written the book alone, for Mrs. Jones has been a faithful and constant co-laborer with me, especially in the preparation of such complete drill exercises, and in the endeavor to eradicate all errors and inconsistencies, and in the correction of proof, etc.; and if this book shall find favor in the public mind, much of the credit belongs to her. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Graham System of Shorthand IN no lines of thought or action has the progressive element of the American people evinced more ingenuity than in that of making text-books. Almost every shorthand text-book now before the public has been reduced to some special system or method: every one made, like razors, to sell, and warranted to be the best. For instance, we have the Inductive, the Deductive, the Natural, the Accumulative, and other methods; while at least one author in this world has bobbed up serenely who proposes to teach a man or woman to become master of the art of shorthand writing in six weeks. What a sad calamity to most of us that he did not bob up twenty years ago! About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book was released on 2016-06-26 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Common Sense Advanced Drills on Graham's Shorthand Simplified, Vol. 2: As Taught at Draughon's Practical Business Colleges The Pitman systems were good enough for their time, but they are not adequate to the demand of the present day, when the wheels of commerce and public. Discourse are rolling at such a rapid gait. We must advance with the age, and prepare ourselves for requirements unknown to our forefathers, who, not realizing that the time was almost upon them when stenography would be one of the most important adjuncts to commerce and to civilization in general, were content to plod on in the old rut cut out by Pitman, or others of like merit which have since sprung up. However, I would not Speak disparagingly. Of Pitman. The shorthand profession owes much to him, he having first established principles which made phonography of any real practical benefit to the world. Yet, with our present requirements, we can no more use an old or an inferior system of shorthand than we can go back in our history to the time of the Norman Conquest, or to the semi-saxon period of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries and adopt the language of that period. Book Ten Pen Drills in Graham Shorthand Classic Reprint

Download or read book Ten Pen Drills in Graham Shorthand Classic Reprint written by Andrew J. Graham and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Ten Pen Drills in Graham Shorthand A pen is the only suitable or satisfactory instrument for practical shorthand writing. - Godfrey Dewey in "The Science of Shorthand." The elimination of unnecesary stops in motion between joined strokes is essential for the attainment of the highest speed. The object of this drill is to acquire the habit of writing joined strokes without stopping at the point of joining. Think of each outline in this drill as something to be made with a single motion of the pen, without stop from the time you start until you finish it. Make each outline that way. In the drill on the horizontal strokes write them in groups of three across the line, as shown in the copy. The position of the hand for shorthand writing is the same as in longhand, that is, the hand rests lightly upon the last two fingers and the forearm muscles. The wrist must not touch the table or desk at any time. Kay-Kay: (Use forearm muscles. Minimum speed of movement twelve outlines in ten seconds. Keep your outlines as nearly the size of the copy as possible. Always have your copy before you as you practice and compare your work with it every five or ten lines.) Gay-Gay: (Forearm muscles. Pen rolled slightly to the left by bending the thumb. Minimum speed of movement twelve outlines in ten seconds. Legibility: "A form is legibly written when it more nearly resembles the outline for which it was intended than any other." - "Science of Shorthand." Chay-Chay: (Thumb and forefinger bending at the middle joints. Minimum speed twelve outlines in ten seconds.) Jay-jay: (Thumb and forefinger bending at middle joints. Slightly increased pen pressure. Minimum speed twelve outlines in ten seconds.) About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book MiniScript Shorthand

Download or read book MiniScript Shorthand written by Levin Leonard and published by . This book was released on 2008-04 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Existing shorthand systems (Gregg, Pitman, Teeline) provide non-alphabetical symbols or outlines to increase the writing speed. A number of writing strokes is significantly reduced and a high speed can be attained. However, a great deal of time must be spent on memorization and retention is difficult if you decide to use Gregg, Pitman, Teeline and similar symbol-based methods. On the other hand, speedwriting methods use alphabet letters and are easier to learn. But they require two or three strokes to write a standard letter and can not match a writing speed attainable by non-alphabetical shorthand. The MiniScript system is non-alphabetical version of the EasyScript method and designed to simplify learning and provide a high writing speed comparable to symbol-based shorthand and. EasyScript was introduced in 1990 and has become a viable alternative in the United States and worldwide for those who prefer to utilize alphabet-based speedwriting. MiniScript employs: a) a proven and popular EasyScript alphabet-based abbreviation methodology that reduces considerably the memorization volume by using a small set of abbreviating rules and b) writing abbreviations with special symbols to attain writing speeds comparable to non-alphabetical shorthand. Applying MiniScript you will need to remember only a list of 9 special symbols representing English alphabet. Symbols from conventional PC keyboard such as period (.), slash (/), comma (, ) are used and require little or no training. EasyScript book is not required to study MiniScript. A demo of EasyScript is available at our website easyscript.com

Book Feedback Systems

Download or read book Feedback Systems written by Karl Johan Åström and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2021-02-02 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essential introduction to the principles and applications of feedback systems—now fully revised and expanded This textbook covers the mathematics needed to model, analyze, and design feedback systems. Now more user-friendly than ever, this revised and expanded edition of Feedback Systems is a one-volume resource for students and researchers in mathematics and engineering. It has applications across a range of disciplines that utilize feedback in physical, biological, information, and economic systems. Karl Åström and Richard Murray use techniques from physics, computer science, and operations research to introduce control-oriented modeling. They begin with state space tools for analysis and design, including stability of solutions, Lyapunov functions, reachability, state feedback observability, and estimators. The matrix exponential plays a central role in the analysis of linear control systems, allowing a concise development of many of the key concepts for this class of models. Åström and Murray then develop and explain tools in the frequency domain, including transfer functions, Nyquist analysis, PID control, frequency domain design, and robustness. Features a new chapter on design principles and tools, illustrating the types of problems that can be solved using feedback Includes a new chapter on fundamental limits and new material on the Routh-Hurwitz criterion and root locus plots Provides exercises at the end of every chapter Comes with an electronic solutions manual An ideal textbook for undergraduate and graduate students Indispensable for researchers seeking a self-contained resource on control theory
