I saw another species of tulip-trees with their blossoms, which are planted in the gardens, but are not larger than dwarf apple or pear trees; they do not bloom until August, and are white and tabbied red. Of the first-named larger species of tulip-trees no blossoms are seen until they are 20 years old and over. Many other kinds and species of trees, flowers and herbs, and also grain are found in America. The daisy, for instance, which is so frequent and therefore so little esteemed with us, is as rare in Pennsylvania as the rarest and most beautiful flowers in Europe can be, for it is planted in the gardens as a rare flower. Quite as rare there, is the juniper-shrub, which is esteemed much higher than the rosemary with us, and the juniper-berries are sold for a higher price than peppercorns.
