Book Goldilocks Meets Desidero

Download or read book Goldilocks Meets Desidero written by Carl Spetzler and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-07 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decision skills are central to leading a productive life. The tag line for the Decision Education Foundation says it well: Better Decisions - Better Lives. Like most children, my granddaughters (then four and six) knew about Goldilocks. When I asked them "Was Goldilocks a good little girl?" they thought for a moment and responded in unison "Oh no! She shouldn't have gone into the bears' house." That opened up a learning opportunity. First, we discussed what decisions Goldilocks made, then how we can make good decisions. And that led to this book. The story provides the opportunity to teach four primary lessons: 1. I need to own my decisions. That takes awareness and courage. It also leads to taking responsibility for decisions and actions. 2. To make a decision consciously, I have to stop and think before I act. 3. A good decision has to make sense and feel right to me. 4. And, once I decide, I have to really do it - or it will only be an intention - not a real decision. These four lessons are the foundation for building our conscious decision power for a successful life.

  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2019-02-01

  • Pages : 312 pages

Download or read book Paul Against the Idols written by Flavien Pardigon and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-02-01 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of Paul's visit to the city of Athens with its speech delivered before the Areopagus council is one of the best-known and most-celebrated passages of the Acts of the Apostles. Being the only complete example of an apostolic address to "pure pagans" recorded, it has consistently attracted the attention of historians, biblical scholars, theologians, missionaries, apologists, artists, and believers over the centuries. Interpretations of the pericope are many and variegated, with opinions ranging from deeming the speech to be a foreign body in the New Testament to acclaiming it as the ideal model of translation of the Christian kerygma into a foreign idiom. At the heart of the debate is whether the various parts of the speech must be understood as Hellenistic or biblical in nature--or both. Paul Against the Idols defends and develops an integrated contextual study of the episode. Reading the story in its Lukan theological, intertextual, narrative, linguistic, and historical context enables an interpretation that accounts for its apparent ambivalence. This book thus contributes to the ongoing hermeneutical and exegetical scholarly discussions surrounding this locus classicus and suggests ways in which it can contribute to a Christian theology of religions and missiology.

Book Moral Darwinism

Download or read book Moral Darwinism written by Benjamin Wiker and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2009-09-20 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abortion. Euthanasia. Infanticide. Sexual promiscuity. Ideas and actions once unthinkable have become commonplace. We seem to live in a different moral universe than we occupied just a few decades ago. Consent and noncoercion seem to be the last vestiges of a morality long left behind. Christian moral tenets are now easily dismissed and have been replaced with what is curiously presented as a superior, more magnanimous, respectful and even humble morality. How did we end up so far away from where we began? Can the decline be stopped? Ben Wiker, in this provocative and insightful book, traces the amazing story that explains our present cultural situation. Wiker finds the roots of our moral slide reaching all the way back to the ethical theory and atheistic cosmology of the ancient Greek philosopher Epicurus. Christian teaching had been in contention with this worldview long before it reached its pinnacle with the rise and acceptance of Darwinism. But it was Darwinism, Wiker contends, that provided this ancient teaching with the seemingly modern and scientific basis that captured twentieth-century minds. Wiker demonstrates that this ancient atomistic and materialistic philosophy supplies the guiding force behind Darwinism and powerfully propels the hedonistic bent of our society while promoting itself under the guise of pure science. This book is a challenge not only to those who believe Darwinism to be purely scientific fact but to Christian who have at times inconsistently lived out their Christian moral convictions and so have failed to recognize and address the ancient corrosive underpinnings of our present moral and intellectual crisis.

Book Women in Love Illustrated

Download or read book Women in Love Illustrated written by D. H. Lawrence and published by . This book was released on 2021-01-19 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Widely regarded as D. H. Lawrence's greatest novel, Women in Love is both a lucid account of English society before the First World War, and a brilliant evocation of the inexorable power of human desire.Women in Love continues where The Rainbow left off, with the third generation of Brangwens: Ursula Brangwen, now a teacher at Beldover, a mining town in the Midlands, and her sister Gudrun, who has returned from art school in London. The focus of the novel is primarily on their relationships, Ursula's with Rupert Birkin, a school inspector, and Gudrun's with industrialist Gerald Crich, and later with a sculptor, Loerke. Quintessentially modernist, Women in Love is one of Lawrence's most extraordinary, innovative and unsettling works
