Download or read book Godbreathed written by Zack Hunt and published by MennoMedia, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-05-09 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Could there be good news in biblical imperfections? What if the imperfections and contradictions in Scripture aren’t an accident? What if they were allowed to be there by the Holy Spirit in order to draw us beyond the literal words on the page and deeper into the spiritual truth God is trying to teach us? As provocative or unorthodox as that might sound, it is in fact a very ancient way of understanding what it means for the Bible to be divinely inspired. In this thorough and disarming book, author Zack Hunt explains how we got here and offers a practical and easily accessible approach for reading and understanding the Bible that doesn’t require a PhD in biblical languages. As the disillusioned leave the Church in droves and the deconstructing search for better answers to eternal questions, this book repositions Scripture in the life of the Church to allow it to be what it was meant to be all along: a source of life, hope, and freedom for all. Godbreathed will reclaim the idea of biblical truth and reveal it to be not a list of beliefs to affirm or laws to be followed, but an invitation into a new way of living and loving on earth as it is in heaven.

Maxwell Coder, as well as other trusted fundamental scholars, that the Bible was settled in God's mind in every detail before written down on earth and that God prepared the men who wrote--Isaiah is "a polished shaft," for example (Isa. 49:2)--and that God even prepared and controlled the environment and character and feeling of the writers so that they wrote down God's revelation in His inspired words.

Download or read book How God Breathed Life Into Me written by Leah Beth and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-10-06 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The little girl was so scared. She stared into space, wondering what future she could possibly have in her ugly, unhappy mind. Hiding on the bench that was pushed under the table, afraid to face Mama's wrath because once again, this dear little girl, only six years old, broke a stack of glass dishes that came crashing down, hitting the floor while she was doing what mama asked, set the table for the family to sit down and eat together. Never a kind word spoken, all ugly snarls and accusation after accusation hurled into this young girl's heart and the beatings that followed later. This story is written as my story. My journey of how a heart can grow ugly and bitter in a home where the mother is not using her words to bless her children and how tragically this can cause the whole household to fall in a place completely out of line of God's order and how God used this ugliness to set this bitter, angry woman free. This story is written by a plain woman in an Amish Mennonite setting, being careful not to point any fingers at anyone but to use my story to bring honor and glory to God, that everyone who reads its pages can realize how valuable they are in God's sight regardless of what ugly life has dished out to them. I love butterflies because they remind me that it's never too late to transform ourselves.

Download or read book If God Still Breathes Why Can t I written by Angela N. Parker and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2021-09-14 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A challenge to the doctrine of biblical inerrancy that calls into question how Christians are taught more about the way of Whiteness than the way of Jesus Angela Parker wasn’t just trained to be a biblical scholar; she was trained to be a White male biblical scholar. She is neither White nor male. Dr. Parker’s experience of being taught to forsake her embodied identity in order to contort herself into the stifling construct of Whiteness is common among American Christians, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation. This book calls the power structure behind this experience what it is: White supremacist authoritarianism. Drawing from her perspective as a Womanist New Testament scholar, Dr. Parker describes how she learned to deconstruct one of White Christianity’s most pernicious lies: the conflation of biblical authority with the doctrines of inerrancy and infallibility. As Dr. Parker shows, these doctrines are less about the text of the Bible itself and more about the arbiters of its interpretation—historically, White males in positions of power who have used Scripture to justify control over marginalized groups. This oppressive use of the Bible has been suffocating. To learn to breathe again, Dr. Parker says, we must “let God breathe in us.” We must read the Bible as authoritative, but not authoritarian. We must become conscious of the particularity of our identities, as we also become conscious of the particular identities of the biblical authors from whom we draw inspiration. And we must trust and remember that as long as God still breathes, we can too.

Download or read book Irresistible written by Andy Stanley and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2018-09-18 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fresh look at the earliest Christian movement reveals what made the new faith so compelling...and what we need to change today to make it so again. Once upon a time there was a version of the Christian faith that was practically irresistible. After all, what could be more so than the gospel that Jesus ushered in? Why, then, isn't it the same with Christianity today? Author and pastor Andy Stanley is deeply concerned with the present-day church and its future. He believes that many of the solutions to our issues can be found by investigating our roots. In Irresistible, Andy chronicles what made the early Jesus Movement so compelling, resilient, and irresistible by answering these questions: What did first-century Christians know that we don't—about God's Word, about their lives, about love? What did they do that we're not doing? What makes Christianity so resistible in today's culture? What needs to change in order to repeat the growth our faith had at its beginning? Many people who leave or disparage the faith cite reasons that have less to do with Jesus than with the conduct of his followers. It's time to hit pause and consider the faith modeled by our first-century brothers and sisters who had no official Bible, no status, and little chance of survival. It's time to embrace the version of faith that initiated—against all human odds—a chain of events resulting in the most significant and extensive cultural transformation the world has ever seen. This is a version of Christianity we must remember and re-embrace if we want to be salt and light in an increasingly savorless and dark world.
