Book God s Unlikely Path to Success

Download or read book God s Unlikely Path to Success written by Tony Evans and published by Harvest House Publishers. This book was released on 2012-08-01 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When many Christian readers think of the heroes of the Bible, they think about how "good" they were. They forget that...Rahab was a harlot. Jonah was a rebel. Moses was a murderer. Sarah was a doubter. Peter was an apostate. Esther was a diva. Samson was a player. Jacob was a deceiver. And yet these eight men and women are among the Bible's greatest heroes. Dr. Tony Evans uses these prominent Bible characters to illustrate the truth that God delights in using imperfect people who have failed, sinned, or just plain blew it. These are men and women whose actions-or reactions-were not consistent with God's character-and yet God met them and used them in the midst of their mess. Readers will be encouraged about their own walk with God as they come to understand that He has them, too, on a path to success, despite their many imperfections and mistakes.

Book The Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert

Download or read book The Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert written by Rosaria Champagne Butterfield and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Rosaria, by the standards of many, was living a very good life. She had a tenured position at a large university in a field for which she cared deeply. She owned two homes with her partner, in which they provided hospitality to students and activists that were looking to make a difference in the world. In the community, Rosaria was involved in volunteer work. At the university, she was a respected advisor of students and her department's curriculum. And then, in her late 30s, Rosaria encountered something that turned her world upside down -- the idea that Christianity, a religion that she had regarded as problematic and sometimes downright damaging, might be right about who God was. That idea seemed to fly in the face of the people and causes that she most loved. What follows is a story of what she describes as a train wreck at the hand of the supernatural. These are her secret thoughts about those events, written as only a reflective English professor could."--Back cover.

Book The Unlikely Disciple

Download or read book The Unlikely Disciple written by Kevin Roose and published by Grand Central Publishing. This book was released on 2009-03-26 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hilarious and heartwarming, respectful and thought-provoking memoir of a college student's semester at Liberty University, the "Bible Boot Camp" for young evangelicals, that will inspire believers and nonbelievers alike. No drinking. No smoking. No cursing. No dancing. No R-rated movies. Kevin Roose wasn't used to rules like these. As a sophomore at Brown University, he spent his days fitting right in with Brown's free-spirited, ultra-liberal student body. But when Roose leaves his Ivy League confines to spend a semester at Liberty University, a conservative Baptist school in Lynchburg, Virginia, obedience is no longer optional. Liberty is the late Reverend Jerry Falwell's "Bible Boot Camp" for young evangelicals, his training ground for the next generation of America's Religious Right. Liberty's ten thousand undergraduates take courses like Evangelism 101 and follow a forty-six-page code of conduct that regulates every aspect of their social lives. Hoping to connect with his evangelical peers, Roose decides to enroll at Liberty as a new transfer student, chronicling his adventures in this daring report from the front lines of America's culture war. His journey takes him from an evangelical hip-hop concert to a spring break mission trip to Daytona Beach (where he learns to preach the gospel to partying coeds). He meets pastors' kids, closet doubters, Christian rebels, and conducts what would be the last print interview of Rev. Falwell's life.

Book Skeptical Theism

  • ISBN : 3031342712
  • Pages : 302 pages

Download or read book Skeptical Theism written by Perry Hendricks and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-12-06 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is evil evidence against the existence of God? Does divine hiddenness provide an evidential problem for theism? Is our evolutionary history evidence that God doesn’t exist? Skeptical theism is the view that humans are cognitively limited in important ways that prevent us from providing affirmative answers to these evidential questions. In this book—the first monograph published on skeptical theism—Perry Hendricks gives careful, novel, and compelling arguments in favor of skeptical theism and provides a comprehensive defense of it, addressing all major objections to skeptical theism on offer. The implications of skeptical theism are teased out: it undermines the most prominent arguments for atheism on offer, which significantly lowers the epistemic status of atheism.

Book In God s Path

Download or read book In God s Path written by Robert G. Hoyland and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2014-10-01 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In just over a hundred years--from the death of Muhammad in 632 to the beginning of the Abbasid Caliphate in 750--the followers of the Prophet swept across the whole of the Middle East, North Africa, and Spain. Their armies threatened states as far flung as the Franks in Western Europe and the Tang Empire in China. The conquered territory was larger than the Roman Empire at its greatest expansion, and it was claimed for the Arabs in roughly half the time. How this collection of Arabian tribes was able to engulf so many empires, states, and armies in such a short period has perplexed historians for centuries. Most accounts of the Arab invasions have been based almost solely on the early Muslim sources, which were composed centuries later to illustrate the divinely chosen status of the Arabs. Robert Hoyland's groundbreaking new history assimilates not only the rich biographical information of the early Muslim sources but also the many non-Arabic sources, contemporaneous or near-contemporaneous with the conquests. In God's Path begins with a broad picture of the Late Antique world prior to the Prophet's arrival, a world dominated by two superpowers: Byzantium and Sasanian Persia. In between these empires, emerged a distinct Arabian identity, which helped forge the inhabitants of western Arabia into a formidable fighting force. The Arabs are the principal actors in this drama yet, as Hoyland shows, the peoples along the edges of Byzantium and Persia--the Khazars, Bulgars, Avars, and Turks--all played critical roles in the remaking of the old world order. The new faith propagated by Muhammad and his successors made it possible for many of the conquered peoples to join the Arabs in creating the first Islamic Empire. Well-paced, comprehensive, and eminently readable, In God's Path presents a sweeping narrative of a transformational period in world history.

Book Success God s Way

  • Author : Charles F. Stanley
  • Publisher : Thomas Nelson
  • Release : 2002-02-03
  • ISBN : 1418518948
  • Pages : 256 pages

Download or read book Success God s Way written by Charles F. Stanley and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2002-02-03 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Success is defined by a continuing desire to be the person God called you to be and to achieve those goals that God helps you to set," says Charles Stanley. In Success God's Way, Stanley teaches God's principles for success, including ten steps to help you reach God's goals in your life, and what to do about the seven success blockers that entangle believers. "Dr. Stanley has defined success in a timeless manner?knowing and doing the will of God. When a person knows Christ personally and consistently obeys the principles of Scripture, he is prepared for success God's way." ?Franklin Graham, Chairman and CEO, Samaritan's Purse; CEO, Billy Graham evangelistic Association "In a society that increasingly judges the success of individuals by the clothes they wear, the car they drive, the club they belong to, or the career they choose, the church desperately needs to reaffirm biblical standards. Once again, Dr. Stanley has brought clear focus to a timely issue. Success God's Way challenges readers to reexamine whether or not they are sacrificing genuine, lasting success on the altar of a worldly, temporary counterfeit and therefore sesttling for a lot less than what God wants to give them." ?Anne Graham Lotz, International Bible Teacher and Bestselling Author "In an age when our thinking is skewed, our zeal is waning, and our desire for excellence is deadened by apathetic self-centeredness, this book presents many biblical insights that challenge us to hear God's Word to Joshua to meditate on God's Word and be strong and courageous so we can have success." ?Kay Arthur, Precept Ministries International

Book Disbelief

Download or read book Disbelief written by Will M. Gervais and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2024-07-30 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does God exist? This straightforward question has spawned endless debate, ranging from apologists’ supposed proofs of God’s existence to New Atheist manifestos declaring belief in God a harmful delusion. In Disbelief, Will M. Gervais, Phd., a global leader in the psychological study of atheism, shows that the ubiquity of religious belief and the peculiarities of atheism are connected pieces in the puzzle of human nature. It’s undeniable that religion is a core tenet of human nature. It is also true that our overwhelmingly religious species is also as atheistic as it’s ever been. Yet, no scientific understanding of religion is complete without accounting for those who actively do not believe. In this refreshing and revelatory book, Gervais argues that religion is not an evolutionary puzzle so much as two evolutionary puzzles that can only be solved together. First is the Puzzle of Faith: the puzzle of how Homo sapiens – and Homo sapiens alone – came to be a religious species. Second is the Puzzle of Atheism: how disbelief in gods can exist within our uniquely religious species. The result is a radically cohesive theory of both faith and atheism, showing how we became a uniquely religious species, and why many are now abandoning their belief. Through a firsthand account of breakthroughs in the scientific study of atheism, including key findings from cognitive science, cultural evolution, and evolutionary psychology, Disbelief forces a rethinking of the prevailing theories of religion and reminds both believers and atheists of the shared psychologies that set them on their distinct religious trajectories. In casual prose and with compelling examples, Gervais explains how we became religious, why we’re leaving faith behind, and how we can get along with others across the religious divides we’ve culturally evolved.

Book excerpt: SUCCESS BY DESTINY is a book written for the Christian who desires to know and fulfill God's Will for his life. God doesn't want us to be ignorant of His Will, but He wants us to have understanding of His Kingdom and our place in it. Until we know God's purpose for us and allow the Holy Spirit to teach us what we need to know to bring it to pass, we aren't being as effective in our Christian walk and testimony as we could be. Unless we choose to follow the path ordained for us by God, true success in our lives is not possible. To help us in our quest to fulfill God's purpose, He has given us the indwelling Christ, spiritual gifts, the guidelines of His Word, and the leadership of His Holy Spirit. The desire to go willingly wherever the Holy Spirit takes us is the beginning of our path to success. Being truly successful also requires that we study and follow the example of the life of Jesus, whose submission to His purpose changed the world FOREVER! SUCCESS BY DESTINY is a book of spiritual concepts which, if applied, will help the reader change his heart, his thinking, and his ambitions in a powerful, dynamic way. Patricia McKay and Sharron McKee, both retired educators, collaborated in the writing of this book because of their shared heart desire to instruct and encourage Christians to live above the circumstances of life.
