Book God s Kingdom through His Priest King

Download or read book God s Kingdom through His Priest King written by J. Alexander Rutherford and published by Teleioteti. This book was released on 2019-05-24 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though many studies have probed the significance of the Davidic Covenant (2 Sam 7:1-17) within the biblical canon, few have endeavoured to explore its significance within the narrative of Samuel. This thesis argues that by weaving references to God's promises made to David (collectively known as the Davidic Covenant) throughout his narrative, that author of Samuel reveals God's will to strip away all human pretension by bringing His promises to fulfillment through the lowly David, whose acension to kingship and endurance therein is owing all to God. In this way, the author fulfills his purpose to demonstrate God's sovereign working in history to establish His kingdom on earth through His chosen priest-king, a descendant of David, in fulfillment of the promises He made beforehand. Engaging in a literary close-reading of the text of Samuel, the author shows how the narrative of Samuel is shaped towards this end.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Yahweh, the God of the Bible is no bigger, better human: he is the creator of not just humans, but everything. He has no creator and needs nothing from no one. He will not and cannot cease to exist. He never makes mistakes; he is never caught off guard; he never fails. On the other hand, he has made himself known. He is not the ineffable "One" of Plotinus and the philosophers, indescribable and unknowable, met only in mystical encounters. God is not only great in his vast distance over us, but he is also simultaneously close in his tender, kind presence with us. In Yahweh alone is inexhaustible greatness; in him alone is true greatness made known. When we read about God in the Bible, we are not given universal statements about God's attributes (though these have their place); we are shown portraits of the Great God as he relates to us, his creatures. From these portraits we not only come to know God truly and deeply (as we come to truly know our spouse or friends by witnessing what they do and say), but we are forced to respond to the God we come to know. As we are struck with awe-even despair-in the presence of the natural wonders, beholding God's greatness in Scripture must move us. We ought to be (and often are) led to trembling worship before the God who is truly Great. Read this short book, delight in the God you meet there, and then set yourself to the lifelong task of discovering once again the living, true God, the great God, Yahweh.

Book The King Priest of Psalm 110 in Hebrews

Download or read book The King Priest of Psalm 110 in Hebrews written by David R. Anderson and published by Peter Lang Incorporated, International Academic Publishers. This book was released on 2001 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kingdom of David has been the focus of disagreement among Biblical interpreters practically since the ascension of Christ. Since Christ was enthroned at the right hand of God the Father when he ascended, many believe he began ruling from that throne at that time. But is this kingdom over which he rules the Davidic kingdom? Reformed scholars say yes; dispensational scholars say no. A new breed of dispensational scholars say yes and no. These "Progressive Dispensationalists" say Jesus has inaugurated the Kingdom of David but will return to the earth to consummate this kingdom with a millennial reign from Jerusalem. Are they right? This book uses Psalm 110 in the Old and New Testaments to find an answer.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under the Old Covenant, the priesthood belonged to Aaron and his sons. Since believers, by faith, are part of Christ's family line, they receive the ministry of the priesthood also. Under the Levitical system, there was one high priest among the priests. Christ was called a High Priest and not the only priest; thus, there has to be other priests that serve with Him. These other priests are those who have believed on Him. The believer receives kingship and priesthood through Jesus. To have a people of a royal priesthood has always been a part of God's plan for His people. It was His desire for the children of Israel, yet He developed this desire in the believers. In the pages of the first book of this set, we will bring clarity to the foundation for the royal priesthood of the believer. Book 1 of 2. - Small Group and Bible study edition is available: "Royal Priesthood Studies 101: Introductory Studies to the Priesthood of the Believer."

Book King Priest and Prophet

    Book Details:
  • Author : Robert J. Sherman
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing USA
  • Release : 2004-03-02
  • ISBN : 0567023389
  • Pages : 304 pages

Download or read book King Priest and Prophet written by Robert J. Sherman and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2004-03-02 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The doctrines of the atonement and the Trinity are central not only to the Christian faith but also to Christian systematic theology. Over the last decade or so, one or another theological interpretation of either of these doctrines has assumed pride of place among theologians. Before Robert Sherman, though, no theologian has ever dared to read the atonement in light of the Trinity. Most of the time atonement theories simply focus on the redeeming work of Jesus Christ, without any reference to Christ's relationship to the Father and the Spirit of the Trinity. But, as Sherman argues, Christ's atoning work is diverse and cannot be limited to one who ransoms our sins or to one who has victory over our sins (although in Sherman's view Christ's atoning work includes these tasks and more). He offers here a constructive theological proposal that connects Trinity with the rubrics of prophet, priest, and king to help explain Christ's atoning work. One can understand adequately neither Christ's multifaceted reconciliation of a complex humanity to God nor that reconciliations fundamental unity as God's gracious act apart form the Trinity. Without this framework, one will likely stress one person of the Trinity, one aspect of God's reconciling work, and/or one understanding of the human predicament to the exclusion of others and the detriment of theology, both systematic and pastoral. Sherman's constructive theological proposal suggests that we should recognize a certain correspondence and mutual support between the three persons of the Trinity, the three offices of Christ (king, prophet, priest), and the three commonly recognized models of his atoning work (Christus victor, vicarious sacrifice, moral exemplar). Sherman's book offers a well-nuanced and well-grounded constructive theology of Trinitarian atonement and is a significant addition to the Theology for the Twenty-First Century Series. Robert J. Sherman is Professor of Christian Theology at Bangor Theological Seminary in Maine. His work has appeared in such publications as the Scottish Journal of Theology, the International Journal of Systematic Theology, and The Journal of Religion.

Book God s Kingdom through God s Covenants

Download or read book God s Kingdom through God s Covenants written by Peter J. Gentry and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2015-08-31 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible records a number of covenants that God made with his people. However, rather than merely abstract ideas for theologians and scholars to study, the covenants in Scripture hold the key to understanding the Bible’s overarching story and message. In God’s Kingdom through God’s Covenants, two world-class scholars offer readers an engaging snapshot of how God has chosen to lovingly relate to his people in history, tracing the significance of the concept of “covenant” through both the Old and New Testaments. Explaining the differences between covenant theology and dispensationalism while offering a thoughtful alternative to both, this book ultimately highlights the covenantal framework through which God has promised to remain faithful to his people.

Book God s Gifts for the Christian Life Part 1

Download or read book God s Gifts for the Christian Life Part 1 written by J. Alexander Rutherford and published by Teleioteti. This book was released on 2021-11-05 with total page 746 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How are Christians to think about the intellectual tasks that make up everyday life in the modern world? It is clear we are not to do so as the "world" does, but what does it look like to engage Christianly in our thinking? In the first part of the series, God's Gifts for the Christian Life, J. Alexander Rutherford shows how the Bible equips us to confidently engage in the interpretation of and engagement with the Word of God and the world he has created. In God's rich mercy, he has enabled us to know him, his word, and his world. In a world where it is preposterous and arrogant to claim to know anything certainly, we are in desperate need of renewed foundations. In God's Gifts for the Christian Life, see some of the ways that God through his limitless power has made available to us everything necessary for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3).

Download or read book The Royal Priest written by Matthew H. Emadi and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2022-11-29 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite its importance in the New Testament and the priestly messianic promise identified by King David, relatively little has been written on Psalm 110 from a biblical-theological perspective. By considering David's biblical warrant for bringing together priesthood and kingship in a single figure, Matthew Emadi shows how we are able to uncover the theological foundation on which Psalm 110 is built. He situates the psalm in Scripture's storyline, showing that Melchizedek's royal priesthood is tied to both creation and redemption.

Book The Gift of Reading Part 1

Download or read book The Gift of Reading Part 1 written by J. Alexander Rutherford and published by Teleioteti. This book was released on 2019-09-30 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If the Word of God is our anchor in the chaos of this world, if it is our assurance that we can know the world and God its creator, we need confidence that we can understand this Word. Reading and applying the Bible is essential to every facet of Christian life and ministry, yet our ability to do so is under attack from a myriad of directions. In Postmodern philosophy, the possibility of communication is dismissed, let alone communication from God. In Biblical studies, the amount of knowledge required to come to firm conclusions concerning the meaning and application of the Bible grows every day. However, the BIble is not so pessimistic about its accesibility. Instead, it presents itself as a clear word, sufficient to guide and encourage Christians in every area of life.Beginning with the Bible's own claims to clarity and sufficiency, The Gift of Reading Part 1 outlines the practice of reading the Bible in order to understand and apply it. The Gift of Reading Part 2 will go further into the theory that lies beneath the methodology unpacked in Part 1.

Download or read book God s Kingdom For Today written by Peter Toon and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-02-16 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the kingdom of God? When will it (or did it) come? What does it have to do with the Old Testament Israel? With the Christian Church? With present-day society? These and many other questions are brilliantly addressed in God’s Kingdom for Today. As in his other books, Peter Toon uses an extensive knowledge of the Scriptures to construct a thoroughly biblical approach, which is then applied to daily life. The result is a truly significant study. Among the topics discussed are the kingdom of God in the Old Testament, with special emphasis on God as King of Israel, and Jesus’ teaching on the subject, pointing out that He not only taught about the kingdom, He personified it. Toon also focuses upon the practical implications of the kingdom, especially as it bears upon the related topics of the church, personal ethics, and social responsibility. A proper understanding of God’s kingdom is central to the Christian faith. God’s Kingdom for Today brings much-needed clarity to this often misunderstood subject.
