Book excerpt: Why is God's beauty often absent from our theology? Rarely do theologians take up the theme of God's beauty—even more rarely do they consider how God's beauty should shape the task of theology itself. But the psalmist says that the heart of the believer's desire is to behold the beauty of the Lord. In The Beauty of the Lord, Jonathan King restores aesthetics as not merely a valid lens for theological reflection, but an essential one. Jesus, our incarnate Redeemer, displays the Triune God's beauty in his actions and person, from creation to final consummation. How can and should theology better reflect this unveiled beauty? The Beauty of the Lord is a renewal of a truly aesthetic theology and a properly theological aesthetics.

Book excerpt: Creation (the belief that God was and is the Creator of all that is seen and unseen) went virtually undisputed in the Judeo-Christian orthodoxy until the 19th century. That is until Charles Darwin, an English biologist published his theory of evolution in 1859. Gradually, evolution became the preferred curriculum in our school systems and we were offered little evidence to choose between our faith and secular beliefs. Through this book, you are offered an alternative curriculum to the theory of evolution, that properly timelines the Bible, from the Book of Genesis through the Book of Revelations. Through visions and revelations, the author recorded how the sixty-six books of the Bible pertain to this timeline. Will you open the pages of this book with an open mind and receptive heart, or will you allow your religious and worldly belief systems to be a stumbling block for you? Remember this one thing, that the Lord rewards those who diligently seek him.

Book The Timing of the Incarnation

Download or read book The Timing of the Incarnation written by Robert G. Saba and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2012-09-01 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Faith, religion and science spring into dynamic interplay in the provocative book, The Timing of the Incarnation: God's True Plan Revealed? Seeking to respond to a seemingly neglected detail of Christian theology, author Robert G. Saba draws upon lifelong interests and contemporary scholarship in religion, psychology, biology, and natural science as he explores the question of why the first century of the Common Era, of all moments in history, was the time when God became man. The result is a challenging work brimming with ideas and new possibilities that raises serious implications and could lead to a better understanding of humanity's relationship to the divine. This direct and thorough investigation of why the incarnation of Christ occurred two thousand years ago, rather than at the dawn of humankind's emergence as Homo sapiens or, alternately, immediately before the end of the world, will inspire and encourage those looking for an updated, realistic perspective on religious thought. Starting systematically with a comprehensive review of the definition and longstanding assumptions about the Incarnation as detailed in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, The Timing of the Incarnation continues to explore the historical context and considerations surrounding this transforming event. This includes not only a thoughtful and enlightening overview of the Jewish, Greek, and Roman cultures that played critical roles in the advent and growth of Christianity, but also encompasses an assessment of the spiritual and social development of the world's other cultures in the first century. The Timing of the Incarnation reveals that the critical factor in this moment of sublime mystery was in actuality the readiness of humanity to respond to the divine. This discovery affords a stunning and refreshing change in how Christians can perceive the relationship between God and humanity, offering strength and encouragement in a dynamic that is more paternal than magisterial, more nurturing than controlling. This fundamental paradigm shift in our understanding provides a strong sense of connectedness to the divine, reminding us that God is and always has been actively present as a guiding force in our lives.

Book Creation Plans

    Book Details:
  • Author : Stephen E. Meeks
  • Publisher : LifeRich Publishing
  • Release : 2020-12-13
  • ISBN : 1489732683
  • Pages : 256 pages

Download or read book Creation Plans written by Stephen E. Meeks and published by LifeRich Publishing. This book was released on 2020-12-13 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Before God created the universe, it apears to some of us that he must have had to undertake a lot of planning. God planned for all his creation to be put together and operate through mechanics, electrical and magnetic fields, and forces. He designed and planned for tiny subatomic particles to attract and repel, spin and fly. His atomic model baffled us for thousands of years. Yet, he also planned for life and spiritual existance. Stephen E. Meeks speculates on all of God’s planning in this important work, drawing on his knowledge of scripture and science. He seeks to discuss questions such as: What steps did God take to create life and achieve His plan of salvation? Did God keep some things a secret? What was he doing Before the creation? The author examines how God reveals his plan for a strong and orderly foundation on which He physically built creation and how His basic building blocks are revealed by science. From string theory and subatomic particles, light, day and night, and the heavens, to life, cellular mechanics, and more, this book hopes to share with you a new appreciation for God’s amazing work.

Book God s Absence and the Charismatic Presence

Download or read book God s Absence and the Charismatic Presence written by Roy D. Kindelberger and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-05-17 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author's theological inquiry is intended to raise questions of interpretation within the camp of openness theology and to direct a discussion on the implications of this movement for the charismatic/Pentecostal community. Open theism or openness theology affirms that the universe is open, the future is not settled, God is essentially relational love, and the risks of love and the threats against it are real. The author digs deep into this area of doctrine in order to question how far openness theology is willing to go. Is it only the future that is open to God, or are there perhaps unknown aspects to the past and present as well? What does God know about sin, and when does he know it? Is it possible for God to be totally absent from a person's life or even from an entire nation? If God can be absent, can he also be exceptionally present in the lives of believers? What would the divine presence and the charismata (spiritual ministries) look like in an open universe?

Book Imago Dei Man Woman Created in the Image of God

Download or read book Imago Dei Man Woman Created in the Image of God written by George Hobson and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-09-30 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question "What is human nature?" is in vogue today. Like everything else, this concept is being deconstructed in the context of the reigning ideology of individualistic materialism. Is there a fixed human nature, or is this simply a manipulatable social construct with no objective reference? This book says: "Yes, there is: the imago Dei: man/woman created in the image of God." Hobson argues that this text from Genesis 1:26-28 is a God-given anthropological revelation that establishes the relational bond of human beings with their Creator and also with his creation, for which the imago equips us to be responsible stewards. Many of Hobson's essays were delivered as talks in parishes. They explore from multiple angles the import of the imago Dei for theological and sacramental reflection, apologetics, aesthetics, art, and, at a hands-on practical level, for pastoral counseling and inner healing. His texts, one of which opens with a discussion of genocide, contain incisive critiques of the dark side of modernity alongside wide-ranging demonstrations of the pertinence of the imago Dei to the current debates about human dignity and rights. His book is a ringing call to the church to take the measure of the value of this anthropological revelation for its proclamation of the gospel.

Book Christ Revealed

    Book Details:
  • Author : Dr David Abraham
  • Publisher : Independently Published
  • Release : 2023-05-30
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book Christ Revealed written by Dr David Abraham and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2023-05-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CHRIST REVEALED Revelation is defined as the dramatic act of revealing something previously concealed. It is the act or process of disclosing something previously secret or obscure, especially something true, in other words, the act of revealing secrets or very important information. In the Christian context, it is God's disclosure of God's own Personality, nature, and purpose for mankind. God's revelation is dynamic in nature. He reveals Himself in dispensations. This progressive nature of His revelation may appear fairly obvious when we look at the many years and authors it took to assemble the Holy Scriptures. It therefore, means that the understanding of progressive revelation is important in relation to prophecy. THE KEY TO UNLOCK THE FULL MANIFESTATION AS SONS OF GOD IS THE REVELATION OF CHRIST! The Revelation of Christ is the centre of God's eternal plan and purpose for man. Until Christ is fully revealed in the life of any man, God's plan for that man has not been completed, irrespective of whatever thing or things he may have accomplished in life. This unveiling only begins at the new birth; So many have experienced the dynamic workings of God in the new birth and have stopped right there in their journey in life. The new birth is the operation of God which brings us into Christ, so we can begin a journey into the fullness of Him and so we can come to the place of perfection in Christ. In Colossians 4:28, Paul the apostle, by whom this mystery was handed over to us boldly tells us "Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus". This is what is missing in the Church today and God is speedily at work, restoring the Church back to the revelation of Christ so His people can be perfected and ready for His return! God is ushering us into a continuation of the apostolic frequency of the Early Church that was truncated by circumstances. This is therefore, why this work The Revelation of Christ is to be published in series and this incidentally forms the first volume of the work. As Christ continues to reveal Himself so will the revelation be published for the consumption of His people all over the world. We are privileged to be part of this apostolic and final move of God in these final moments of man's sojourn on this planet. Dr. David G. Abraham

  • ISBN : 1725257726
  • Pages : 148 pages

Download or read book God s Love Story written by Joshua Joel Spoelstra and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-02-20 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God’s Love Story: A Canonical Telling traces the metaphorical theme of God’s love relationship(s) that spans the entire Bible. God lovingly pursues humankind in relationship that is robustly satisfying and salvific. Like many relationships, God’s love story with God’s people is both transcendent and tragic, messy and mercy-filled, raw and redemptive. Not merely a series of events relegated to the past, God’s love story is an ongoing, present phenomenon—a salvation-relationship into which God invites all peoples to (collectively) be the spouse of God.
