Book God s Creatures Our Teachers

Download or read book God s Creatures Our Teachers written by David DeRidder and published by . This book was released on 2019-12-07 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ask, "Who owns the Emerald Coast Zoo?" and you will be told that Rick and Sara de Ridder own it. Then ask them (or their children), "Who's zoo is it?" and they will all say that it is God's zoo!Rick's testimony is full of personal examples of how God has guided the process leading to owning this zoo. God has provided graciously every step along the way. It has been my privilege to help Rick and Sara with new signs for each animal at the zoo. I added as many Biblical references as I could for most of the animals. Then recently while I was part of a team of volunteers from Denver, I led devotions in front of a different animal each morning. That is when Sara suggested that perhaps we could produce a 30-day devotional together and make it available to guests who visit the zoo. This booklet with Sara's amazing design talent is the result of that dream. These daily devotions are short so that they can be useable even when life gets busy. After a busy day, we might want to take a few moments and reflect on God's Word. Or perhaps in the morning before a busy day might be the perfect time to stop and focus on God's Word. Martin Luther once said, "I have so much to do today, that I cannot possibly get it done without first spending a few hours in prayer." There are no written prayers at the end of each devotional like you might expect in a devotional. Rather, this booklet is designed to take just a few moments of time to read each day and hopefully spark some thinking and prayers from the reader.

Book The Teachers of Spiritual Wisdom

Download or read book The Teachers of Spiritual Wisdom written by Duncan S. Ferguson and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-05-03 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We call attention to the harsh reality that we are living in troubled times. We are especially conscious of climate change and COVID-19. We underline that these challenges impact all people. In light of this reality, we use ten primary questions that all human beings ask, consciously or unconsciously, and then amplify each of the ten primary questions with nine additional sub-questions. We then draw upon one of the great teachers of spiritual wisdom (Buddha, Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, etc.) with a brief quote and then write a short “wisdom” response to the question. By “wisdom” we mean a body of accumulated reflection about the character and meaning of life. Spiritual wisdom suggests an outlook or attitude that enables us to cope, a deeper way of knowing and learning the art of living in rhythm with the soul. We use the life experience of three authors, coming from different religious and cultural outlooks.

Parents will find Creature Teachers a wonderful aid to bring up a child in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. With six children, thirteen grandchildren, and twenty great grandchildren of her own, Pat Lennon is well experienced in teaching children. She kept seven of her grandchildren for fifteen years in her "Grandmama's Daycare."'Creature Teachers' is her second book for teaching spiritual lessons to children. Pat uses rhymes to teach for two reasons: (1) children enjoy them, and (2) they are more apt to remember them."Jaymi Krystowiak lives and works with her husband, Jesse, in Chesapeake, VA. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We live in a century in which we must either change our way of regarding and acting toward nature or else imperil our survival as a species and jeopardize as well the fate of the planet itself. This book by a theologian and environmental scientist examines four religious figures from European and Asian contexts who could aid us in developing a more sustainable and caring orientation, which would allow us to live more “in tune” with creation: twelfth-century German nun Hildegard of Bingen, thirteenth-century Italian monk and patron saint of ecology Francis of Assisi, nineteenth-century Japanese Zen monk and poet Taigu Ryōkan, and the first pontiff from Latin America, twenty-first-century Pope Francis. By emphasizing our intimate and unavoidable organic connection with the network of all life and our charge to care for and protect it, they point us in the direction of a new paradigm, a healthier perspective, a metanoia—a change of heart, mind, attitude, and action—that would partner what we know about nature (an environmental consciousness) with what we do (an ecological conscience). Our children, our grandchildren, and our great-grandchildren deserve at least this much.

Book Education As My Agenda

Download or read book Education As My Agenda written by J. Robinson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-06 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Gertrude Williams retired in 1998, after forty-nine years in the Baltimore public schools,The Baltimore Sun called her "the most powerful of principals" who "tangled with two superintendents and beat them both." In this oral memoir, Williams identifies the essential elements of sound education and describes the battles she waged to secure those elements, first as teacher, then a counselor, and, for twenty-five years, as principal. She also described her own education - growing up black in largely white Germantown, Pennsylvania; studying black history and culture for the first time at Cheyney State Teachers College; and meeting the rigorous demands of the program which she graduated from in 1949. In retracing her career, Williams examines the highs and lows of urban public education since World War II. She is at once an outspoken critic and spirited advocate of the system to which she devoted her life.
