Book Confessions of an Angry Man

Download or read book Confessions of an Angry Man written by Brent C. Hofer and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-01-21 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A portion of the profits from the sale of this book will be donated to the organization that helped change my life. ARMS believes it's not enough to manage anger. Year after year, they prove that recovery is possible. I'm living proof. You've already surmised that this is not a scientific book about anger. There are many of them. Rather, this is the story of my moving from a life of anger to a new experience of rest, joy, and love. A number of transformations needed to happen in my thinking and behaviors in order to bring me to this new place. If you are angry, I hope these happen for you. This is my confession.I have been angry almost my whole life. I'm talking about the type of anger that resembles a landmine. You don't always see it, but it is there, buried in the personality, and when something triggers it, people get seriously hurt. I estimated I had 837,841 episodes of anger, control, and domination from age eighteen until fifty-seven. That is an average of nearly sixty incidents per day. That's sixty-not sixteen, and definitely not six. Something had to change. Actually, a lot had to change. Compassion is at the heart of writing this book. Everything in it describes the belief changes that needed to happen in my thinking so I could successfully practice processing fear, hurt, and anger in much healthier ways.I wrote this book to influence men to find the help I found. So their wives would be drawn to their loving husbands instead of drastically thinking how to flee. So their children would love their dads rather than being fearful of a dad who acts as an enemy. If you are an angry man, I plead with you to do the one act that no one else can do for you. Be willing to change.

Book excerpt: Bestselling and award-winning author Lee Strobel interviews experts about the evidence for the afterlife and offers credible answers to the most provocative questions about what happens when we die, near-death experiences, heaven, and hell. We all want to know what awaits us on the other side of death, but is there any reliable evidence that there is life after death? Investigative author Lee Strobel offers a lively and compelling study into one of the most provocative topics of our day. Through fascinating conversations with respected scholars and experts--a neuroscientist from Cambridge University, a researcher who analyzed a thousand accounts of near-death experiences, and an atheist-turned-Christian-philosopher--Strobel offers compelling reasons for why death is not the end of our existence but a transition to an exciting world to come. Looking at biblical accounts, Strobel unfolds what awaits us after we take our last breath and answers questions like: Is there an afterlife? What is heaven like? How will we spend our time there? And what does it mean to see God face to face? With a balanced approach, Strobel examines the alternative of Hell and the logic of damnation, and gives a careful look at reincarnation, universalism, the exclusivity claims of Christ, and other issues related to the topic of life after death. With vulnerability, Strobel shares the experience of how he nearly died years ago and how the reality of death can shape our lives and faith. Follow Strobel on this journey of discovery of the entirely credible, believable, and exhilarating life to come.

Download or read book The Violence of the Biblical God written by L. Daniel Hawk and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2019-01-08 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can we make sense of violence in the Bible? Joshua commands the people of Israel to wipe out everyone in the promised land of Canaan, while Jesus commands God’s people to love their enemies. How are we to interpret biblical passages on violence when it is sanctioned at one point and condemned at another? The Violence of the Biblical God by L. Daniel Hawk presents a new framework, solidly rooted in the authority of Scripture, for understanding the paradox of God’s participation in violence. Hawk shows how the historical narrative of the Bible offers multiple canonical pictures for faithful Christian engagement with the violent systems of the world.

Book Is God Angry

  • Author : Tony Cross
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2020-12-08
  • ISBN : 9781098070144
  • Pages : 196 pages

Download or read book Is God Angry written by Tony Cross and published by . This book was released on 2020-12-08 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My memory of the church in my childhood years was a dichotomy of some of the most loving people I have ever known, as well as the angriest people also. It made me wander-usually out into the woods where I skipped Wednesday night services. I would slip in the back just before the closing prayer had ended in time to close one eye. I could tell, the angry ones always knew I was missing by their scowled look. Is God angry? The New Testament says, "God is love," and "God so loved the world that He gave His Only begotten son..." The Bible also has many Old Testament scriptures that say, "The Lord met him [Moses] and sought to put him to death!" and "Let me alone, that My anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them..." Here's a good one, "Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel, 'Every man of you put his sword upon his thigh, and go back and forth from gate to gate in the camp, and kill every man his brother, ...his friend, ...his neighbor!" (his dog)-oops, sorry, the last one was added. However, there are scriptures that God had instructed the Israelites to wipe out the entire city, every man, woman, child, including the livestock. Then there's the favorite: "The Lord struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt." How can a God of love be this harsh? And why? Even seemingly to the point of punishing the innocent future children before they are born: "I will not leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, ...even unto the third and fourth generations." Is there a "righteous" anger? Do we know what it looks like? How can we trust this God as a father to love and protect us? Why did God and Jesus use the analogy of "a father" in relation to Himself, repeatedly throughout the Scripture? Does our belief about the answers to these questions affect the way we live, see ourselves, and treat others, even the ones we love the most? Overcoming these questions and the deep-seated anger left inside me from an "absent-father syndrome" was the hardest and most painful quest of my entire life. This book explores what seems like two different natures on the surface and attempts to provide some of the answers to the dilemma of the gentle loving nature of Jesus and God the Father of the Old Testament. God is good-all the time! My soul is now at rest, and the anger of my childhood is learning to find peace through the information provided here. May it also bless you.
