Book The Government of God Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Government of God Classic Reprint written by John Taylor and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-12 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Government of God It was Elder Taylor's intention to superintend the publishing of "The Government of God" in person, previous to his departure for Great Salt Lake City last spring; but the numerous cares attending the French and German Missions, of which he was President; the translation of the Book of Mormon into the French and German languages; the establishment of L'Etiole du Deseret at Paris, and Zions Panier at Hamburg; together with a multitude of other business connected with the welfare of the Kingdom of God, rendered it impossible. The manuscript was therefore handed to me by Elder Taylor, with a request to superintend the printing of the work, which I have done to the best of my ability. Considering the disadvantages arising from the Author's absence during the reading of the proofs, I believe it is as correctly rendered as was possible from a manuscript copy. The Work is now before the Public, and from one portion at least it will meet with a cordial reception, treating as it does upon the theme most dear to their hearts - the Reign of Righteousness and Peace. Book The Republic of God

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Republic of God: An Institute of Theology The being of God is the precedent and the postulate of the thought of God. It is the ground in man of his conscious life. From the beginning, and with the growth of the human consciousness, there is the consciousness of the being of God, and of a relation to God. Man is conscious of the being of the external world, and lives and acts in this consciousness, and the being of the external world so comes to be apprehended by him. And, further, man is conscious of the being of God, and lives and acts in this consciousness, and the reality of the being of God so comes to him. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Church of God: A Social History Like all histories, however, this is also a unique story. The twists and turns in the history of the Church of God smack of the isolation of Cleveland, Tennessee, and of the leadings of a.i Tomlinson and other homespun prophets. Crews writes of earn est men struggling to hammer out a code of morality in a region where tobacco-raising was ethically more problematic than slum housing and where the kkk was far better known than the afl. In the end, this is the story of a church that contributed to the birth of worldwide Pentecostalism but that has spent most of its history in its own world confronting its own problems. Crews knows the Church of God well - both experientially and as a scholar. He has read the writings of the prophets; he has talked and sung with the true believers. All denominational his tory is controversial; no telling of it is likely to satisfy everyone. But Crews has written with fairness and restraint about a move ment that could hardly have expected such respect twenty years ago. That is as it should be. Pentecostals have earned a place in history, and it is fitting that their stories be told respectfully. Having won such regard, it is fitting that Pentecostals listen to an objective accounting of their past. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Our City of God Classic Reprint

Download or read book Our City of God Classic Reprint written by J. Brierley and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-06 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Our City of God When Augustine, amid the fast approaching dissolution of the Empire, with the Vandals already in his native Africa, wrote the "De Civitate Dei," he worked upon a conception which perhaps strikes us most for its contrast with our own. With the world, as it seemed, going to pieces around him, he looked for consolation in the thought of a Church, a body of elect souls who, and who alone, would be saved from this wreck of all that was visible. He makes an absolute dichotomy, to us terrible in its completeness, of the human race. On one side are the elect, found in all the six periods into which he divides world-history, from the Creation to the Second Advent. With the saints are included the elect angels, and these together make up the eternal kingdom, the heavenly Jerusalem, the abiding City of God. The host outside are a massa perditionis, whose very virtues are splendida vitia, and whose doom is the eternal fire. Book The State Classic Reprint

Download or read book The State Classic Reprint written by Thatcher Thayer and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-04 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The State No, thank God, we are participants of a higher National Existence. Its larger, deeper pulsations throb within us. Ours is this lofty State consciousness, becoming more distinct, and, please Heaven! we do not mean to part with it, come what may. This is the moment for us to be in sympathy with the worthiest minds of every age upon this grand theme, from the great Athenian downward, and, with John Milton, to conceive of the State as of "one huge Christian Personage, one mighty growth and stature of an honest man, as big and compact in virtue as in body." It is a great thing, and worth great sacrifices, to attain the full conception of this. With a comprehension enlarged by the views opening upon us, and made more luminous by their contrasts; with an earnestness becoming more intense through the tragic realities of this hour, let us then apprehend it, First, as directly authorized in its origin, alike by the revealed word and the natural law of God, not as asking leave to be through some supererogatory compact of men; but through a certain divine necessity working in the constitution of things, whereby society must crystallize into State forms. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Great Concern: Or, Man's Relation to God and a Future State The difference in the judgments of men with regard to Religious Conversion, is owing to the, difference in their views with respect to the fundamental doctrines of the gospel. They who believe that a vicarious sacrifice for sin has been made by One who was in the beginning with God, and was God, and was made flesh, are led to expect and to find something in the relation of men, as sinners, to God, which makes such an atonement indispensable to salvation. It confirms their faith in the tremendous penalty threatened against sin; it shows' them not only the possibility, but the justice, of pardon founded on such a sacrifice and the promised supernatural change, by the Holy Spirit, of all who are thus pardoned, is no more than they might expect would follow. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Growth of the Kingdom of God In general, the book may be called an apologetic for Christianity, based on a View of its varied forms of growth, - growth in numbers, in understanding, in practice, and in influence. Chapter III. Was not a part of the original plan; but, for obvious reasons, it seemed desirable that, for English readers, there should be a chapter devoted to a study of the growth of the Kingdom in England, and it has accordingly been prepared. No one is more keenly alive than the author to the extreme difficulty of a satisfactory treatment of the subject. He has tried to do his best with the materials accessible. He has tried to state some of the results of his studies of Biblical literature and Church history, without cumbering his pages with philological discus sions or scholastic theorizing. He hopes that the vol ume'will be useful enough to justify the request of friends for its publication. If it should be thought useful in the parish or the family library, if it should assist parents or teachers in explaining to inquiring youth the rise and progress of true religion among men, -or if any' earnest seeker should find a single ray of light shining from its pages upon topics quite as often darkened by bigotry as by unbelief, the au thor's time and trouble will not have been in vain. Book Lectures on the Moral Government of God Vol 2 Classic Reprint

Download or read book Lectures on the Moral Government of God Vol 2 Classic Reprint written by Nathaniel W. Taylor and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lectures on the Moral Government of God, Vol. 2 To present God to men as their perfect Moral Governor, and to unfold the nature, the mode, and the issues of his moral administration under its different forms, is obviously the great design of Revelation, and that to which every other is subordinate and subservient. The manifestation of God in this august relation to man, carrying with it the relation of man to God as the subject of his moral government, and implying its foundation and its origin in the character of God, and in the nature and condition of man - man's duty, character, and destiny, the influences under which he must act, the progress and results of the system - may be justly said to be the comprehensive theme of Revealed Theology. In attempting to unfold a subject so comprehensive, it is often necessary to discuss singly some of its prominent and essential parts. Especially must this be true when every such part of the whole subject has been one of long, extensive, and continued controversy. The part which has called forth the discussion and the controversy may be more or less comprehensive; it has usually been so in theology, as different circumstances and occasions have given rise to these partial and insulated discussions. Book Why I am an Atheist and Other Works

Download or read book Why I am an Atheist and Other Works written by Bhagat Singh and published by Sristhi Publishers & Distributors. This book was released on 2019-11-11 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bhagat Singh is a name that became synonymous with revolution in India’s struggle for Independence. This young boy brought about a change in the way people thought about freedom. He was well read and fought extensively for rights – his own, his comrades’ and his countrymen’s. A discussion with a friend soon turned into a matter of self-assessment for Bhagat Singh, leading to a discourse on why he chose to be an atheist. Even in the face of death at a very young age, his uncanny observation leads to his putting forth some pertinent questions. On another occasion, he was disappointed with his father’s plea in court for his innocence and chose to write a letter to him. This book is a collection of eighteen of his valued writings from within the walls of prison and outside it, which show us the resolve in his words, and the bravery in his acts subsequently.
