Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the aftermath of the Cold War, Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer offers his most challenging book to date: a probing assessment of the meaning and implications of what U.S. leaders have called a "new world order." While the end of the Cold War and the mobilization of sanctions against Iraq opened the possibility of a truly new world order, Nelson-Pallmeyer argues that the Gulf War was used to serve a very different purpose. United States elites in the national security establishment instead sought to make the world safe for future wars, to derail the post-Cold War "peace dividend," and to foreclose the possibility of a world order based on international justice and commitment to human rights. From the perspective of the Third World, where ever-greater debt leads to ever-greater death, Nelson-Pallmeyer shows how the "new world order" is only a new way of managing the old world order: the misery of the poor will continue to sustain the appetites of the rich. Parallel to the increased pauperization of the Third World, the 1980s saw the massive transfer of wealth within the United States, from the poor to the very wealthy. The consequences: the decay of our cities and dramatic increases in racial violence, drug abuse, and crime. At the same time, the impending ecological crisis has escalated rapidly. Finally, Nelson-Pallmeyer turns his attention to the role of Christians in blessing the "new world order." Appalled by the abuse of religious rhetoric in justification of the Gulf War he examines how Jesus confronted the "world order" of his day, and calls for a radical discipleship that worships the God of life rather than the idols of power and wealth.

Book The Providential Order of the World

Download or read book The Providential Order of the World written by Alexander Balmain Bruce and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2004-03-17 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A.B. Bruce's first series of Gifford Lectures, delivered in Glasgow (1897), has in view several thoughts: that God cares for humans individually and collectively; that His nature is such, and that He sustains such a relation to man, as makes that care natural and credible; that His care covers all human interests, but especially the higher, ethical interests of righteousness and goodness in the individual and society; that He is a moral Governor and benignant Father, a Power bringing forth righteousness and overcoming evil with good; and that He rules over all things with a view to bringing about a kingdom of the good. For Professor Bruce, the great matter is not 'that' God is, but 'what' God is. The 'Providential Order' lectures explore this question in light of Providence. Bruce's line of proof, in keeping with the Gifford trust, is through man to God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While many bible scholars have made rapture, Heaven and hell the essence of their doctrine, this book drives us towards the will of God that aims at turning the entire Earth into His second domain. Heaven as a Kingdom wants to connect with Earthly realm and they become one. This book unveils why civilization and modernization are important components in the process of renovating this planet to replicate Heaven in both appearance and beauty. As we all contribute towards building this planet into a better domicile, we should know that the Earth is our residence for eternity. The fact that we die and ascend back to Heaven doesn't mean the end of the earthly experience. Jesus Himself promises us that we shall comeback down here and live again and reign with Him for a thousand years before the throne of the Father Lord God Almighty will be finally established on Earth as His dwelling place for eternity. (See Revelation 20:1-6) It was revealed to John the revelator that after the judgement of the living and the dead, there will be a new Heaven and a new Earth. John also saw a new Holy city of Jerusalem descending from God out of Heaven; meaning God has an eternal plan for this planet. (See Revelation 21:1) This book glimpses the purpose of God behind political systems; their rising and falling. This book unveils the purpose of the church as a Law school for Kingdom principles. It challenges the way church folks view politics, and it also highlights God's intentions behind project Earth and all its advancements for His eternal plan.

Book Religion the Enlightenment and the New Global Order

Download or read book Religion the Enlightenment and the New Global Order written by John M. Owen IV and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2011-01-17 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Largely due to the cultural and political shift of the Enlightenment, Western societies in the eighteenth century emerged from sectarian conflict and embraced a more religiously moderate path. In nine original essays, leading scholars ask whether exporting the Enlightenment solution is possible or even desirable today. Contributors begin by revisiting the Enlightenment's restructuring of the West, examining its ongoing encounters with Protestant and Catholic Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and Hinduism. While acknowledging the necessity of the Enlightenment emphasis on toleration and peaceful religious coexistence, these scholars nevertheless have grave misgivings about the Enlightenment's spiritually thin secularism. The authors ultimately upend both the claim that the West's experience offers a ready-made template for the world to follow and the belief that the West's achievements are to be ignored, despised, or discarded.

Book God s Revolution and Man s Responsibility

Download or read book God s Revolution and Man s Responsibility written by Harvey Cox and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2016-08-05 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our times offer abundant evidence that organized Christianity is failing to fulfill its responsibilities in bringing about the changes most desperately needed in the world. The great events of our day are occurring apart from the church, and this fact indicates to Harvey Cox that the secular world is the principal arena of God's work today. Where does this leave the organized church, the clergy, and the lay member as they witness in modern society? These are the kind of questions that Harvey Cox faces and provocatively discusses in this book. There is no doubt as to where he stands personally with regard to the issues that trouble society most deeply. He is a prophet of God's reconciliation, whether in matters of race, ecumenical relationships, or world order, and he feels that Christians who stand with him will have to enter more vitally into the secular world if they are to be agents of reconciliation. You may or may not agree with this book, but you owe it to yourself to read it.

Book The Future of Creation Order

Download or read book The Future of Creation Order written by Gerrit Glas and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-01-12 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work provides an overview of attempts to assess the current condition of the concept of creation order within reformational philosophy compared to other perspectives. Focusing on the natural and life sciences, and theology, this first volume of two examines the arguments for and against the beauty, coherence and order shown in the natural world being related to the will or nature of a Creator. It examines the decay of a Deist universe, and the idea of the pre-givenness of norms, laws and structures as challenged by evolutionary theory and social philosophy. It describes the different responses to the collapse of order: that given by Christian philosophy scholars who still argue for the idea of a pre-given world order, and that of other scholars who see this idea of stable creation order and/or natural law as redundant and in need of a thorough rethinking. It studies the particular role that reformational philosophy has played in the discussion. It shows how, ever since its inception, almost a century ago, the concepts of order and law (principle, structure) have been at the heart of this philosophy, and that one way to characterise this tradition is as a philosophy of creation order. Reformational philosophers have maintained the notion of law as ‘holding’ for reality. This book discusses the questions that have arisen about the nature of such law: is it a religious or philosophical concept; does law just mean ‘orderliness’? How does it relate to laws of nature? Have they always existed or do they ‘emerge’ during the process of evolution?

Book Building the Kingdom of God on Earth

Download or read book Building the Kingdom of God on Earth written by Martin Erdmann and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2005-03-31 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his book, 'Building the Kingdom of God on Earth', Dr. Erdmann deals primarily with John Foster Dulles' participation in the ecumenical movement from 1919 to 1945. Dulles' role in shaping the religious, economic, and political policies of the Federal Council of Churches in its support of world order and peace, especially in his function as chairman of the Commission on a Just and Durable Peace, was crowned with success in the founding of the United Nations Organisation in 1945. His personal friends Philip Kerr (Lord Lothian) and Lionel Curtis, the principal leaders of the Round Table Group, come into the pictures at various times. By and large they pursued the same objectives as those of Dulles. The book shows the detailed influence of the Round Table Group and its affiliated organisations - such as the Royal Institute of International Affairs (London) and the Council for Foreign Relations (New York City) - on the ecumenical movement, using it successfully for their purpose of creating an international community of nations.

Book excerpt: Throughout the Bible, God has revealed the real reason he created all things. In this book, author Patsy A. Cox discloses the many hidden secrets and mysteries shared by God. She faithfully followed his directions as he revealed these new things, and she began to search and dig deeper into each revelation. She discusses how the Bible begins and ends with the marriage of a bridegroom and bride from Genesis through Revelation. This relationship embraces God’s one world order that all should walk in love. Cox compares the betrothal and marriage of the lamb to the bride of Christ to the Jewish marriage customs. Each chapter discusses the love of God for his son, Jesus, and the bride of Christ. God’s One World Order warns and prepares the church for the soon coming of Christ, and it tells how the church will suffer through part of the tribulation. Cox shares this text with the hope hearts may be encouraged as they are knit together in unselfish love. She wants all to enjoy the riches that come from the full assurance of understanding the joy of salvation, resulting in a true and more intimate knowledge of the mystery of God.

Download or read book God and the World written by Joseph Ratzinger and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2013-10-29 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During his years as Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, well-known Vatican prelate Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger has given three in-depth interviews. The first two interviews have become best selling books: The Ratzinger Report and Salt of the Earth. Because of the tremendous reception those books received, the Cardinal agreed to do another interview with journalist Peter Seewald, who had done the very popular Salt of the Earth interview. This third in-depth interview addresses deep questions of faith and the living of that faith in the modern world. The interview took place over three full days spent at the Benedictine Abbey of Monte Cassino in a setting of the silence, prayer, and hospitality of the monks. For this meeting with the highly regarded Churchman, theologian, and author, the seasoned journalist, who had fallen away from the faith but eventually returned to the Church, once again provided a very stimulating, well-prepared series of wide-ranging questions on profound issues. The Cardinal responds with candor, frankness and deep insight, giving answers that are sometimes surprising and always thought provoking.
