Book excerpt: When Becca Reynolds heads for rural Georgia to investigate a suspected crop insurance scam, she's concerned about her career, not her heart. Chief among the suspects is handsome Ryan MacIntosh, who isn't telling everything he knows. Could his involvement possibly be deeper than his devotion to his grandmother and the small farm that's been in the family for generations? Becca can't be sure, even though she and Ryan have shared the most intimate of conversations—at least online. She's certain he's the charming stranger with whom she's exchanged countless emails…and fallen in love. But she can't admit the truth any more than Ryan can—nor predict what it will cost them in the end.

Book Gorbals and Oatlands

Download or read book Gorbals and Oatlands written by Danny Gill and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-06-12 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyone has good memories of their growing up, and mine was a wonderful one of my childhood in the era of the old tenements buildings in the Gorbals and Oatlands area in the south side of Glasgow. Every day for us was like an adventure with so many things to do and our street games could last all day long (especially in the school summer holidays). There were no computers, video games and mobile phones etc in those days and TV was only in its infancy, so all our energy was spent playing out in the open. In my book I try to tell our story of what life was like in that era through my poems, peoples stories and songs we sang in the streets. All this, I hope, brings back happy memories to people of my generation who lived through these times, and a future generation that I want to leave my memories with.

He was killed in an airplane crash that has never been completely explained or resolved.Even though she spoke very little Spanish at the time, Nola obeyed God and remained in Mexico to continue the work Jerry had begun. A testament to the messiness of childhood (and parenting), and a memorial to the household items that perished along the way, here are never-before-seen photos and outrageous stories of VCRs jammed with toys, toilets clogged with clothes, and furniture accented with permanent marker. Torn-up computer keyboards and torn-out hair, botched family photos and mustard-covered treadmills—nothing is off limits to your darling, destructive offspring. Some stories are humorous and are to be read just for fun (e.g., living conditions on a small isolated island). Other stories are serious and somber (e.g., retracing major battle sites of the Vietnam War). Some are pure adventure (e.g., the midnight visit to the leatherback turtle beach). Fascinating travel adventures in Malaysia and Burma (Myanmar) are also included. The first two chapters describe the author’s introduction to values, politics and social justice issues. Book Hollywood Goes Shopping

Download or read book Hollywood Goes Shopping written by David Desser and published by U of Minnesota Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aggressive product placement and retail tie-ins are as much a part of moviemaking today as high-concept scripts and computer-generated special effects, but this phenomenon is hardly recent. Since the silent era, Hollywood studios have proved remarkably adept at advertising both their own products and a bewildering variety of consumer commodities, successfully promoting the idea of consumption itself. Hollywood Goes Shopping brings together leading film studies scholars to explore the complex and sometimes contradictory relationship between American cinema and consumer culture, providing an innovative reading of both film history and the evolution of consumerism in the twentieth century.
