Se ha elaborado especialmente a partir de las asignaturas impartidas inicialmente en el campus de Terrassa y en la actualidad en unas 10 escuelas de cuatro campus de la UPC y, de forma no presencial, en toda la UPC y en otras universidades catalanas. Por tanto, es el resultado del trabajo de sus autores, pero también de la colaboración de muchas personas relacionadas con la Cátedra. Desarrollo sostenible trata, de manera amplia, bastantes temas relacionados con el desarrollo sostenible, desde un enfoque de análisis, de toma de conciencia, de presentación de propuestas, con sus condicionantes y posibilidades de aplicación, al objeto de facilitar que cada cual tome las opciones tecnológicas, vitales, políticas, etc que considere convenientes. Este libro pretende ofrecer una primera visión del estado del mundo, basada en la percepción de la existencia de límites y desequilibrios y de un crecimiento de la complejidad y de la incertidumbre; conocer el concepto de desarrollo sostenible y las diferentes aproximaciones a la sostenibilidad; introducir el fenómeno de la globalización como continuación del análisis del estado del mundo y con relación al concepto y elementos del desarrollo sostenible; estudiar la relación entre los distintos sistemas económicos y los modelos de desarrollo, y presentar las teorías de la economía ambiental y ecológica como sistemas económicos para modelos de desarrollo sostenible; analizar las políticas tecnológicas que contribuyen a la sostenibilidad y, finalmente, estudiar el estado actual de la toma de decisiones a escala mundial, a través de las principales organizaciones internacionales, así como presentar bases teóricas y propuestas futuras coherentes con el desarrollo sostenible.
