Book Global Roadmap of Action Toward Sustainable Mobility

Download or read book Global Roadmap of Action Toward Sustainable Mobility written by Sustainable Mobility for All and published by . This book was released on 2019-10-23 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Global Roadmap of Action Toward Sustainable Mobility is the culmination of a joint effort by the Sustainable Mobility for All (SuM4All) to develop a comprehensive policy framework to assist decision makers in cities and countries as well as practitioners at development banks to identify gaps, necessary steps, and appropriate instruments to attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and improve the sustainability of their transport sector. On the basis of the imperative established by the Global Mobility Report (2017), the GRA private sector consultations paper and the 6 GRA policy papers (Urban, Rural, Gender, Efficiency, Safety and Green mobility) comes this centerpiece report - embodying the collective knowledge of all 55 SuM4All Member organizations and 180 experts. It was developed through an iterative process to ensure its relevance and practicality. Over 50 policy decision makers at the country and city levels engaged on various drafts and to share their experiences, and more than 25 large corporations were questioned on constraints in the enabling environment to innovate and create the solutions of the future. Donors supporting this effort over an 18-month period included: the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the World Bank and the Michelin Foundation. With this tool in hand, SuM4All is now equipped to engage with decision makers in a new dialogue on mobility and support their transition towards sustainable mobility. The content of this paper has also been made accessible and usable to all in the 'Online Tool Toward Sustainable Mobility' hosted on the SuM4All website

Book excerpt: The Private Sector Consultations paper recognizes that as transportation and related industries undergo fundamental changes-fiercer competition with new entrants, multiple exits of traditional actors, new business models, and rapid development of new technologies-change cannot happen without integrating inputs from both public and private actors. Onboarding the private sector in the SuM4All initiative was essential to convey the voice of the business and achieve a successful transformation of mobility. A business consultation, led by Michelin on behalf of the SuM4All Steering Committee, with support of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), Movin'On and Ernst & Young (EY), took the pulse of more than 25 large corporations covering the whole value chain comprising raw materials, transportation services, equipment, digital services, manufacturing, financing services, energy, and consulting. In addition to this, at the annual world summit on sustainable mobility in June 2019, Movin'On organized a special workshop in Montreal. This workshop, dedicated to the Global Roadmap of Action, offered the SuM4All initiative a unique opportunity to get direct outreach to business, and allowed corporations present at Movin'On to add their voice, thus enriching the consultation process. This paper summarizes the outcomes of these engagements.

Book Sustainable Mobility in a Fast Changing World

Download or read book Sustainable Mobility in a Fast Changing World written by Nancy Vandycke and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-10-11 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our world is changing fast. Countries’ transport systems, which have long been shaped by project-by-project considerations, must help achieve higher-level goals for the well-being of mankind, as embodied by the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement. New forces impose greater effectiveness in the way public choices are made, such as making better use of data and technologies, adopting a more inclusive and participatory approach to decision making, and addressing social concerns about equity. Transport practitioners and country decision-makers have been looking for structured and coherent guidance about ways to adjust to these new dynamics and change the trajectory of transport system. This book examines the rationale for and details an innovative approach for public decision-making to expedite the pace to sustainable mobility.

Book Transitions Towards Sustainable Mobility

Download or read book Transitions Towards Sustainable Mobility written by Jo A.E.E. van Nunen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-08-19 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Delivering a sustainable transport system is not just a matter of adopting a number of technological innovations to improve performance in terms of people, planet, and profits. A broader structural and societal transition is needed in technology, as well as in institutions, behavioural patterns, and the economy as a whole. In this broader view, neither the free market nor the public sector will be the unique key player in making this transition happen. Elements of such an approach are presented in this book in a number of domains: integrating transport infrastructure and land use planning, thus connecting fields that are rather unconnected in day-to-day policies; experiments with dynamic transport optimization, including reports on pilot projects to test the viability of transitions; towards reliable transport systems, describing a reversal from supply-driven towards demand-driven approaches; and sustainable logistics and traffic management, from ‘local’ city distribution to global closed supply chain loops.

Book Global Mobility Report 2017

Download or read book Global Mobility Report 2017 written by and published by . This book was released on 2017-10-22 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Global Mobility Report 2017 (GMR) is the first-ever attempt to examine the performance of the transport sector, globally, and its contribution to a sustainable future. Sustainable transport and mobility are fundamental to progress in realizing the promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and in achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As members of the international community, we have a shared responsibility to shape the transport agenda. The overall aim is to achieve universal sustainable mobility. This will require greater coherence within the transport sector, to support global decision-making and influence investment. This GMR is a first step in building stakeholder consensus on this path. The GMR is meant to be a continuing resource, as we plan on updating this report every two years. The proposed targets and indicators herein¿which establish the elementary global tracking framework for transport¿are based on and complement the SDG indicators that were developed by the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on SDG indicators (IAEG-SDGs) created by the UN Statistical Commission. They establish a baseline for future tracking towards sustainable mobility, and provide the sector with information and tools on which to base policy and investment decisions. The baseline issue of the report will be launched in the autumn of 2017.
