Book Global Geoid and Gravity Anomaly Predictions Using the Collocation and Point Mass Techniques

Download or read book Global Geoid and Gravity Anomaly Predictions Using the Collocation and Point Mass Techniques written by Robert P. Bessette and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We previously described (14,14) spherical-harmonic global adjustments of satellite altimetry using the AFGL short-arc technique supplemented with point masses to allow incorporation of short-wavelength geoidal detail. Recently, we have also investigated another technique to enhance short-wavelength detail: least squares collocation with noise. Both methods provide a means to determine a high resolution gravity field on a local, regional or global scale. Statistical comparisons of these two methods have been made in selected areas and the results tabulated.

Book Local Geoid and Gravity Anomaly Predictions Using Point Masses

Download or read book Local Geoid and Gravity Anomaly Predictions Using Point Masses written by Georges Blaha and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The point mass technique, which supplements a spherical harmonic expansion of the potential, allows short wavelength detail to be added to previously computed long wavelength geoidal features without distorting the latter. Recently, the AFGL short-arc approach to satellite altimetry has been modified to allow point mass adjustments. GEOS-3 altimeter residuals in the North Atlantic region were obtained from a first adjustment in terms of spherical harmonics and state vector parameters. A subsequent point mass adjustment was performed on these residuals to obtain the short wavelength geoid and gravity anomalies. Advantages of the point mass model stem from a flexible deployment of the new parameters (point mass magnitudes) in an area of interest that permits important computer savings when processing large amounts of satellite data in a local region.

This book was released on 2018-12-15 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings contain 27 papers, which are the peer-reviewed versions of presentations made at the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) symposium “Gravity, Geoid and Height Systems 2016” (GGHS2016). GGHS2016 was the first Joint international symposium organized by IAG Commission 2 “Gravity Field”, the International Gravity Field Service (IGFS) and the GGOS Focus Area “Unified Height System”. It took place in Thessaloniki, Greece, in September 19-23, 2016 at the premises of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The symposium was organized by the Department of Geodesy and Surveying of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, which presently hosts the IGFS Central Bureau. The focus of the Symposium was on methods for observing, estimating and interpreting the Earth gravity field as well as its applications. GGHS2016 continued the long and successful history of IAG’s Commission 2 Symposia.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings include the written version of 130 papers presented at the International Association of Geodesy IAG2009 "Geodesy for Planet Earth" Scientific Assembly. It was held 31 August to 4 September 2009 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The theme "Geodesy for Planet Earth" was selected to follow the International Year of Planet Earth 2007-2009 goals of utilizing the knowledge of the world’s geoscientists to improve society for current and future generations. The International Year started in January 2007 and ran thru 2009 which coincided with the IAG2009 Scientific Assembly, one of the largest and most significant meetings of the Geodesy community held every 4 years. The IAG2009 Scientific Assembly was organized into eight Sessions. Four of the Sessions of IAG2009 were based on the IAG Structure (i.e. one per Commission) and covered Reference Frames, Gravity Field, Earth Rotation and Geodynamics, and Positioning and Applications. Since IAG2009 was taking place in the great Argentine city of Buenos Aires, a Session was devoted to the Geodesy of Latin America. A Session dedicated to the IAG’s Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS), the primary observing system focused on the multidisciplinary research being done in Geodesy that contributes to important societal issues such as monitoring global climate change and the environment. A Session on the IAG Services was also part of the Assembly detailing the important role they play in providing geodetic data, products, and analysis to the scientific community. A final Session devoted to the organizations ION, FIG, and ISPRS and their significant work in navigation and earth observation that complements the IAG.

Book Gravity Anomaly Recovery from Satellite Altimetry Data Using Least Squares Collocation Techniques

Download or read book Gravity Anomaly Recovery from Satellite Altimetry Data Using Least Squares Collocation Techniques written by Richard H. Rapp and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The prediction of mean gravity anomalies from other anomalies and satellite altimeter data is described using the technique of least squares collocation. The equations derived are then used in simulation studies, using altimeter data alone, to estimate the accuracy to which mean gravity anomalies can be determined with respect to an ellipsoidal reference field and a degree 12 reference field.
