Book Getting Started with Onshape

Download or read book Getting Started with Onshape written by Elise Moss and published by SDC Publications. This book was released on 2016-07 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Onshape is an exciting, new, completely cloud based CAD tool. Getting Started with Onshape is a quick paced guide geared towards users who have no experience with 2D or 3D modeling. Because Onshape can be used for FREE it opens up CAD to anybody who is interested in creating their own models, including members of the bourgeoning Maker community and students who want to learn how to use 3D design tools. Because Onshape is 100% cloud based, there is no software to install and it is always up to date. New features are available to use as soon as they are ready. The good news is that the tools, as outlined in this book, will continue to work the same way even as Onshape evolves. This book guides you through the very basics of how to create models, run simulations, make engineering drawings and bill of materials, create renderings and finally exporting to an stl file, which can be used to create a 3D print. Then you can send your stl file to one of many local or online shops that can print out an stl file. When you have completed this book you will have taken the first step to the Maker Faire journey. In the first chapter of Getting Started with Onshape you will learn how to create an account, explore the workspace and learn how to share your documents with other people. Chapter two features a project where you are guided, step by step, to design your own singlet ring. Throughout this chapter you will learn many of the basic tools you will need to use in nearly every project you create. The third chapter features a new project where you create all the parts of a scooter. This project builds on what you learned previously to create more complex designs while new features of Onshape are introduced. In the remaining chapters you will learn how to import parts from other CAD systems, assemble the parts of your scooter, create a set of engineering drawings for your scooter, add and use apps from the Onshape app store to extend the capabilities of Onshape, and complete two more projects. The apps covered in this book will show you how to run simulations, make a bill of materials, and create renderings and animations.

You begin with a brief introduction to Onshape and the User Interface, toolbar, environments, commands, and various options. Within a short time, you will learn to create 2D sketches that form the basis for 3D models. You will learn to sketch on three different planes (Front, Top and Right planes). You will use various sketching tools such as line, rectangle, and circle. You will also learn to modify sketches using tools such as trim, extend, and fillet. Learn to use constraints and dimensions to achieve a definite shape and size of the sketch. You convert the sketches into 3D features such as Extrude and Revolve. You combine or subtract features to achieve the final part. You can also add placed features such as Fillets and Holes to the 3D geometry. You explore mirroring and patterning commands to create repetitive features. You will learn to use some additional modeling tools and work with multi-body parts. Learn to modify part geometry by editing sketches and feature parameters. You build assemblies after creating parts. There are two methods to build assemblies: Bottom-up and Top-down. In the Bottom-up approach, you bring all the components together and add constraints between them. In the Top-down approach, you create parts at the assembly level. You explode assemblies to show how they were assembled. You create Drawings of the parts and assemblies. You insert part views and add dimensions and annotations to complete the drawing. In the case of assembly drawings, you insert assembly views, Bill of Materials, and Balloons.

Book Getting Started with CNC

Download or read book Getting Started with CNC written by Edward Ford and published by Maker Media, Inc.. This book was released on 2016-08-11 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Getting Started with CNC is the definitive introduction to working with affordable desktop and benchtop CNCs, written by the creator of the popular open hardware CNC, the Shapeoko. Accessible 3D printing introduced the masses to computer-controlled additive fabrication. But the flip side of that is subtractive fabrication: instead of adding material to create a shape like a 3D printer does, a CNC starts with a solid piece of material and takes away from it. Although inexpensive 3D printers can make great things with plastic, a CNC can carve highly durable pieces out of a block of aluminum, wood, and other materials. This book covers the fundamentals of designing for--and working with--affordable ($500-$3000) CNCs.

Book Getting Started with 3D Carving

Download or read book Getting Started with 3D Carving written by Zach Kaplan and published by Maker Media, Inc.. This book was released on 2017-07-31 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 3D printing has been the hot topic in the maker world for years now, but there's another type of desktop manufacturing that's become the go-to choice for anyone who needs durable results fast. Instead of slowly depositing layers of plastic, a 3D carver starts with a solid block of material and carves it away using a rotating metal bit. It's faster than 3D printing, offers a wider choice of materials, and creates durable, permanent parts that look great. This book covers the basics of designing and making things with a 3D carver, and gives you several projects you can build yourself including a guitar, clock, earrings, and even a skateboard.
