Book Flood Risk Management

Download or read book Flood Risk Management written by Edmund C. Penning-Rowsell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-01-22 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our changing climate and more extreme weather events have dramatically increased the number and severity of floods across the world. Demonstrating the diversity of global flood risk management (FRM), this volume covers a range of topics including planning and policy, risk governance and communication, forecasting and warning, and economics. Through short case studies, the range of international examples from North America, Europe, Asia and Africa provide analysis of FRM efforts, processes and issues from human, governance and policy implementation perspectives. Written by an international set of authors, this collection of chapters and case studies will allow the reader to see how floods and flood risk management is experienced in different regions of the world. The way in which institutions manage flood risk is discussed, introducing the notions of realities and social constructions when it comes to risk management. The book will be of great interest to students and professionals of flood, coastal, river and natural hazard management, as well as risk analysis and insurance, demonstrating multiple academic frameworks of analysis and their utility and drawbacks when applied to real-life FRM contexts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Il secondo, “Logic and computing. The underlying basis of digital archaeology”, è una sessione speciale dell’IMEKO TC-4 International Conference on Metrology for Archaeology and Cultural Heritage (MetroArchaeo, Firenze, 4-6 dicembre 2019), a cura di A. Caravale e P. Moscati.

Book Ardeth 02 I Spring 2018

Download or read book Ardeth 02 I Spring 2018 written by AA.VV. and published by Rosenberg & Sellier. This book was released on 2018-03-30 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last fifteen years we witnessed a new ethnographic wave of studies that focused on practising architecture. This body of research aimed at grasping the socio-material dimension of architectural practice. They all relied on the assumption that architecture is collective but it is shared with a variety of nonhumans. These “new ethnographies” generated “thick descriptions” of the knowledge practices of different participants in design. This issue of “Ardeth” collects contributions that will address the ecology of contemporary architectural practice, scrutinizing it as involving actors with variable ontology, scale and politics; exploring empirically different formats of design and reflecting on the importance of ethnography for understanding contemporary architectural practices.

Book Rivista di Estetica 85

Download or read book Rivista di Estetica 85 written by AA.VV. and published by Rosenberg & Sellier. This book was released on 2024-07-05 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This issue of the 'philosophy of the city' includes articles by scholars on a range of human sciences, from media theory to aesthetics and architectural theory. Philosophy, social ontology, cultural anthropology, aesthetics, digital hermeneutics, media theory, cognitive science: these are just some of the disciplines that contribute to the philosophy of the city. This variety of approaches doesn't necessarily result in a chaotic mix. Many of the included forms of discourse belong to the same episteme, which means there are many connections and overlaps. This is true both in the literatures of reference and in the ways of answering the question of what 'the city' is. Secondly, the texts don't focus on the city itself, but on those who live in, design, imagine and think about it. Thirdly, because these texts create a place where different ideas can live together. This is like a city, where ideas change, are built on and then rebuilt. This is what Wittgenstein wrote about in his Philosophical Investigations.

Book The European Carbon Tax An Economic Assessment

Download or read book The European Carbon Tax An Economic Assessment written by Carlo Carraro and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The possible introduction of a carbon tax in Europe is an issue which has attracted the attention of numerous economists and policymakers. The problems under debate concern the effects of the tax at different levels: what costs, in terms of GDP growth, will be paid by each European country? Will the effects on income distribution be larger than those on income level? Should the carbon tax be coordinated among the European countries or would it be better to impose a uniform tax rate on carbon emissions? Can Europe introduce the tax unilaterally or should this be done jointly, with the other industrialised countries? This book provides answers to such questions. It analyses the effects of the European carbon tax on both a domestic and at an international level.

Book Rewilding European Landscapes

Download or read book Rewilding European Landscapes written by Henrique M. Pereira and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-05-04 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some European lands have been progressively alleviated of human pressures, particularly traditional agriculture in remote areas. This book proposes that this land abandonment can be seen as an opportunity to restore natural ecosystems via rewilding. We define rewilding as the passive management of ecological successions having in mind the long-term goal of restoring natural ecosystem processes. The book aims at introducing the concept of rewilding to scientists, students and practitioners. The first part presents the theory of rewilding in the European context. The second part of the book directly addresses the link between rewilding, biodiversity, and habitats. The third and last part is dedicated to practical aspects of the implementation of rewilding as a land management option. We believe that this book will both set the basis for future research on rewilding and help practitioners think about how rewilding can take place in areas under their management.
