The sketch is further applied to the local geology of Colorado. The second part refers to the phenomena of veins and ores, and their surroundings, as illustrated by Colorado. It is now over ten years since the earlier edition was written, and the science of geology, the development of mines and the rapid discoveries of new regions have advanced at such a pace that what then appeared as new is now commonplace. An example is the discovery and development of Cripple Creek, a district then in its infancy, receiving but scant attention in the original work. The same has been the case with many other mining camps, in Colorado and elsewhere. It has been the writers object to illustrate the principles of mining geology rather than to dilate on any particular rich or noted mine.
