Download or read book Antarctic Earth Science written by R. L. Oliver and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1983 with total page 722 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fourth international symposium on Antarctic Earth Sciences took place in Adelaide, South Australia during the week 16-20 August 1982. This volume contains a record of the centenary activities celebrating Sir Douglas Mawson and the one hundred and seventy-four papers that were presented by delegates for discussion over the five days. Sir Douglas Mawson was part of the first team to reach the magnetic South Pole, a leading geologist and scientific figure during the heroic age of of antarctic exploration. The papers presented during the symposium were divided into fifteen categories covering east and west Antarctica, marine, land and glacial geology, plate tectonics, islands, peninsulas, climatic change and Precambrian and Cenozoic era activity. The two hundred persons from sixteen countries who attended the symposium brought together a wide range of the most current expertise and research to share, of which this volume provides a record.

Download or read book The Structure of the Earth s Crust written by Stephan Mueller and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developments in Geotectonics 8: The Structure of the Earth's Crust Based on Seismic Data covers the papers presented at an International Upper Mantle Committee (lUMC) symposium called ""Crustal Structure Based on Seismic Data"", held on July 30-31, 1971. The book focuses on the structure, composition, and characteristics of the earth's crust. The selection first offers information on the crustal structure of Central and Southeastern Europe by data of explosion seismology; structure of the earth's crust on the territory of the U.S.S.R.; and seismic studies of low-velocity layers and horizontal inhomogeneities within the crust and upper mantle on the territory of the U.S.S.R. The text also takes a look at the deep seismic investigations in the Baikal rift zone and crust of the arctic seas of Eurasia. Discussions focus on peculiarities of crustal structure, structure of the uppermost mantle, and method of investigation. The publication takes a look at the crustal structure of Japan as derived from explosion seismic data; crustal structure in the Matsushiro earthquake swarm area; and Soviet seismic studies of the earth's crust in the Pacific Ocean during the International Upper Mantle Project. The selection is a dependable source of information for readers interested in the structure of the earth's crust.

Download or read book The Geology of Antarctica written by Robert J. Tingey and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1991 with total page 714 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geological information from Antarctica has so far been published in expedition reports, conference proceedings, and science journals. This information is thus not readily accessible to Earth scientists who are interested, but not directly involved, in Antarctic research. The Geology ofAntarctica bridges this gap with each chapter presenting an authoritative review of a particular aspect of Antarctic geology. The text provides descriptions of all major rock units found in Antarctica, as well as reviews of Antarctic palaeontology, geophysics, petroleum prospects, and mineral resources. Special attention is drawn to the features of Antarctica that are significant from the wider perspectives of globalgeology.

This book was released on 2022-01-01 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present book covers diversified contributions addressing the impact of climate change on the Antarctic environment. It covers the reconstruction of environmental changes using different proxies. The chapters focus on the glacial history, glacial geomorphology, sedimentology, and geochemistry of Antarctic region. Furthermore, the Cenozoic evolution of the Antarctic ice sheet is discussed along with a Scientometrics analysis of climate change research. The book serves as a useful reference for researchers who are fascinated by the polar region and environmental research.
