Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When it comes to generational planning, what I have found is that many people desire to leave their kids and grandkids better positioned financially, spiritually, and with wisdom to make their lives better than their own. However, it is most often wishful thinking, since many people spend very little time thinking about their legacy, taking action to transfer assets, instill their values and their wisdom to the next generation. I have found that people often live as if money, their beliefs, their values, and their wishes are secret and seldom do much of anything to organize and communicate them to their children or grandchildren. An unfortunate roadblock to the entire idea of generational planning is that many people will miss the opportunity to enhance the next generation by living with a scarcity mindset and a lack of confidence to lead their family. For us to leave a legacy and enhance the next generation, we must begin to realize that living in scarcity and keeping our wishes for future generations a secret leaves the next generation starting over; the pattern of scarcity and secrecy is repeated generation after generation.

Book Family Development in Three Generations

Download or read book Family Development in Three Generations written by Reuben Hill and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-12 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Family Development in Three Generations is an unusual kind of multi-generational gathering--the result of a massive, in-depth research effort. It is based upon Hill's personal interviews conducted with over 300 families during the course of a year. The discussion results from these interviews, from the statistical information that they produced, and from Hill's consultation with five other fellow researchers. This scholarly contribution to the family field thoroughly analyzes the complexities of the modified generational network. As a multi-generational study, it is pervaded by the vigorous spirit that usually characterizes such research. In his preface to Family Development in Three Generations Reuben Hill invites the reader "to drop in on any generational gathering" where "you will hear how much better or worse life was in grandfather's day than today." Such discussions are usually controversial and center upon shared experiences. Such rhetoric, polemic, and energy sustain conversations among generations. Family Development in Three Generations penetrates to the life center of intimate change in American society. It is a wide-ranging volume that presents varied and highly significant insights into many fields. Scholars will find it a vital contribution to their knowledge of the subject and laymen will find it full of valuable information that they can profitably apply to their own families. The work is widely recognized as a classic in longitudinal analysis of family life.

Book Inclusive Group Work

Download or read book Inclusive Group Work written by William Pelech and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inclusive Group Work offers an innovative approach to working with intervention groups and task groups by redefining the concept of diversity and reframing core group work concepts. Appropriate for both undergraduate and graduate courses, this book introduces readers to the foundations of group practice with an emphasis on social justice. The book presents diversity as a relational concept that is at the heart of all group interactions. Individual identity is complex, and in order for all members to be treated equally their individuality must be accepted and respected. Using this framework, the book discusses the values and ethics of social work with groups, explores the stages of group work including planning, and presents both basic and advanced skills such as conflict resolution and the use of self. Theories are put into practice in three chapters of case studies that show in-detail how diversity can be employed as a strength in multiple settings to achieve the wide variety of goals groups pursue. Through this new approach, students and practitioners alike will learn how to harness diversity to engage and maintain participation in inclusive group processes.

Book Generational Politics in the United States

Download or read book Generational Politics in the United States written by Sally Friedman and published by University of Michigan Press. This book was released on 2024-06-18 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The role of generations is an important, yet often overlooked, variable in the study of American politics. A topic of research in sociology, business, and marketing, the focus on generations frequently occurs in American pop culture and journalism. The general public often assumes that different generations have different political leanings and beliefs—that the Silent Generation is all Republican, white, and conservative, or that Millennials are liberal and diverse—but are these assumptions true? Generational Politics in the United States is the first comprehensive book that examines the concept of generations from a political science perspective. It defines what a generation is and how to sort out the differences between life cycle, cohort, and aging effect. The book then brings together chapters from an array of political science scholars that examine the role of generations in American politics and how it relates to other variables such as age, race, gender, and socioeconomic status. It discusses how politics in the United States are impacted by changes in generations, including how the passing of the Baby Boom generation and rise of the Millennials and Gen Z will change American politics. By examining the differences in political attitudes, engagement, and impact of recent generations, Generational Politics in the United States suggests how generational change will impact American politics in the future.
