Book Some Generalized Kac Moody Algebras with Known Root Multiplicities

Download or read book Some Generalized Kac Moody Algebras with Known Root Multiplicities written by Peter Niemann and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2002 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Starting from Borcherds' fake monster Lie algebra, this text construct a sequence of six generalized Kac-Moody algebras whose denominator formulas, root systems and all root multiplicities can be described explicitly. The root systems decompose space into convex holes, of finite and affine type, similar to the situation in the case of the Leech lattice. As a corollary, we obtain strong upper bounds for the root multiplicities of a number of hyperbolic Lie algebras, including $AE_3$.

Book Dualities on Generalized Koszul Algebras

Download or read book Dualities on Generalized Koszul Algebras written by Edward L. Green and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2002 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Koszul rings are graded rings which have played an important role in algebraic topology, noncommutative algebraic geometry and in the theory of quantum groups. One aspect of the theory is to compare the module theory for a Koszul ring and its Koszul dual. There are dualities between subcategories of graded modules; the Koszul modules.

Book mathcal R Boundedness Fourier Multipliers and Problems of Elliptic and Parabolic Type

Download or read book mathcal R Boundedness Fourier Multipliers and Problems of Elliptic and Parabolic Type written by Robert Denk and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2003 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The property of maximal $L_p$-regularity for parabolic evolution equations is investigated via the concept of $\mathcal R$-sectorial operators and operator-valued Fourier multipliers. As application, we consider the $L_q$-realization of an elliptic boundary value problem of order $2m$ with operator-valued coefficients subject to general boundary conditions. We show that there is maximal $L_p$-$L_q$-regularity for the solution of the associated Cauchy problem provided the top order coefficients are bounded and uniformly continuous.

Book Kac Algebras Arising from Composition of Subfactors General Theory and Classification

Download or read book Kac Algebras Arising from Composition of Subfactors General Theory and Classification written by Masaki Izumi and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2002 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title deals with a map $\alpha$ from a finite group $G$ into the automorphism group $Aut({\mathcal L})$ of a factor ${\mathcal L}$ satisfying (i) $G=N \rtimes H$ is a semi-direct product, (ii) the induced map $g \in G \to [\alpha_g] \in Out({\mathcal L})=Aut({\mathcal L})/Int({\mathcal L})$ is an injective homomorphism, and (iii) the restrictions $\alpha \! \! \mid_N, \alpha \! \! \mid_H$ are genuine actions of the subgroups on the factor ${\mathcal L}$. The pair ${\mathcal M}={\mathcal L} \rtimes_{\alpha} H \supseteq {\mathcal N}={\mathcal L} DEGREES{\alpha\mid_N}$ (of the crossed product ${\mathcal L} \rtimes_{\alpha} H$ and the fixed-point algebra ${\mathcal L} DEGREES{\alpha\mid_N}$) gives an irreducible inclusion of factors with Jones index $\# G$. The inclusion ${\mathcal M} \supseteq {\mathcal N}$ is of depth $2$ and hence known to correspond to a Kac algebra of dim

Book Basic Global Relative Invariants for Homogeneous Linear Differential Equations

Download or read book Basic Global Relative Invariants for Homogeneous Linear Differential Equations written by Roger Chalkley and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2002 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given any fixed integer $m \ge 3$, the author presents simple formulas for $m - 2$ algebraically independent polynomials over $\mathbb{Q}$ having the remarkable property, with respect to transformations of homogeneous linear differential equations of order $m$, that each polynomial is both a semi-invariant of the first kind (with respect to changes of the dependent variable) and a semi-invariant of the second kind (with respect to changes of the independent variable). These relative invariants are suitable for global studies in several different contexts and do not require Laguerre-Forsyth reductions for their evaluation. In contrast, all of the general formulas for basic relative invariants that have been proposed by other researchers during the last 113 years are merely local ones that are either much too complicated or require a Laguerre-Forsyth reduction for each evaluation.

Book Almost Commuting Elements in Compact Lie Groups

Download or read book Almost Commuting Elements in Compact Lie Groups written by Armand Borel and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2002 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text describes the components of the moduli space of conjugacy classes of commuting pairs and triples of elements in a compact Lie group. This description is in the extended Dynkin diagram of the simply connected cover, together with the co-root integers and the action of the fundamental group. In the case of three commuting elements, we compute Chern-Simons invariants associated to the corresponding flat bundles over the three-torus, and verify a conjecture of Witten which reveals a surprising symmetry involving the Chern-Simons invariants and the dimensions of the components of the moduli space.

Book Equivariant Orthogonal Spectra and S Modules

Download or read book Equivariant Orthogonal Spectra and S Modules written by M. A. Mandell and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2002 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last few years have seen a revolution in our understanding of the foundations of stable homotopy theory. Many symmetric monoidal model categories of spectra whose homotopy categories are equivalent to the stable homotopy category are now known, whereas no such categories were known before 1993. The most well-known examples are the category of $S$-modules and the category of symmetric spectra. We focus on the category of orthogonal spectra, which enjoys some of the best features of $S$-modules and symmetric spectra and which is particularly well-suited to equivariant generalization. We first complete the nonequivariant theory by comparing orthogonal spectra to $S$-modules. We then develop the equivariant theory. For a compact Lie group $G$, we construct a symmetric monoidal model category of orthogonal $G$-spectra whose homotopy category is equivalent to the classical stable homotopy category of $G$-spectra. We also complete the theory of $S_G$-modules and compare the categories of orthogonal $G$-spectra and $S_G$-modules. A key feature is the analysis of change of universe, change of group, fixed point, and orbit functors in these two highly structured categories for the study of equivariant stable homotopy theory.

Book Topological Invariants of the Complement to Arrangements of Rational Plane Curves

Download or read book Topological Invariants of the Complement to Arrangements of Rational Plane Curves written by José Ignacio Cogolludo-Agustín and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2002 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors analyse two topological invariants of an embedding of an arrangement of rational plane curves in the projective complex plane, namely, the cohomology ring of the complement and the characteristic varieties. Their main result states that the cohomology ring of the complement to a rational arrangement is generated by logarithmic 1 and 2-forms and its structure depends on a finite number of invariants of the curve (its combinatorial type).

Book Dynamics of Topologically Generic Homeomorphisms

Download or read book Dynamics of Topologically Generic Homeomorphisms written by Ethan Akin and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2003 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this work is to describe the dynamics of generic homeomorphisms of certain compact metric spaces $X$. Here ``generic'' is used in the topological sense -- a property of homeomorphisms on $X$ is generic if the set of homeomorphisms with the property contains a residual subset (in the sense of Baire category) of the space of all homeomorphisms on $X$. The spaces $X$ we consider are those with enough local homogeneity to allow certain localized perturbations of homeomorphisms; for example, any compact manifold is such a space. We show that the dynamics of a generic homeomorphism is quite complicated, with a number of distinct dynamical behaviors coexisting (some resemble subshifts of finite type, others, which we call `generalized adding machines', appear strictly periodic when viewed to any finite precision, but are not actually periodic). Such a homeomorphism has infinitely many, intricately nested attractors and repellors, and uncountably many distinct dynamically-connected components of the chain recurrent set. We single out several types of these ``chain components'', and show that each type occurs densely (in an appropriate sense) in the chain recurrent set. We also identify one type that occurs generically in the chain recurrent set. We also show that, at least for $X$ a manifold, the chain recurrent set of a generic homeomorphism is a Cantor set, so its complement is open and dense. Somewhat surprisingly, there is a residual subset of $X$ consisting of points whose limit sets are chain components of a type other than the type of chain components that are residual in the space of all chain components. In fact, for each generic homeomorphism on $X$ there is a residual subset of points of $X$ satisfying a stability condition stronger than Lyapunov stability.

Book h Principles and Flexibility in Geometry

Download or read book h Principles and Flexibility in Geometry written by Hansjörg Geiges and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2003 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The notion of homotopy principle or $h$-principle is one of the key concepts in an elegant language developed by Gromov to deal with a host of questions in geometry and topology. Roughly speaking, for a certain differential geometric problem to satisfy the $h$-principle is equivalent to saying that a solution to the problem exists whenever certain obvious topological obstructions vanish. The foundational examples for applications of Gromov's ideas include (i) Hirsch-Smale immersion theory, (ii) Nash-Kuiper $C^1$-isometric immersion theory, (iii) existence of symplectic and contact structures on open manifolds. Gromov has developed several powerful methods that allow one to prove $h$-principles. These notes, based on lectures given in the Graduiertenkolleg of Leipzig University, present two such methods which are strong enough to deal with applications (i) and (iii).
