Book excerpt: Hydrologic frequency estimates are of general use in many phases of the planning, design, and operation of water control projects. The reliability of these frequency estimates can be improved considerably by generalization techniques - particularly for those stations with relatively short records. Also, these techniques can be used to develop coordinated flow frequency estimates at ungaged locations. This study, for one of nine sub-basins, was conducted under the auspices of the Missouri River Basin Inter-Agency Committee, Standing Committee on Basin Planning, and is presented by a Task Force on Generalized Stream-flow Probabilities of the Hydrologic Analyses and Projections Work Group.

Book excerpt: Prerequisite to comprehensive planning for development of the water resources in a river basin is knowledge of the flow characteristics of streams in the basin. Streamflow records, summarized in a format that emphasizes high-flow, low-flow and variability characteristics, are presented in this report for streams which are tributary to the Missouri River between Kansas City and St. Louis.
