Book General Aviation Aircraft Owners Survey 1962

Download or read book General Aviation Aircraft Owners Survey 1962 written by Robert Brown and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1957, the general aviation segment of the aviation complex has increased from the standpoints of number of aircraft, aircraft hours flown and aircraft miles flown. The size of the general aviation fleet increased from 66,520 in 1957 to 80,098 in 1962. During this same period, the size of the domestic civil air carrier fleet rose from 1,557 to 1,681. Whereas general aviation planes flew an estimated 10,938,000 hours and accounted for 1,426,285 miles in 1957, they flew 14,461,000 hours and covered 1,963,032 miles in 1962. During this same reporting period, the carriers showed a decrease in hours flown--3,893,000 in 1957 to 3,221,000 in 1962--and an increase in aircraft miles flown from 841,233,000 in 1957 to 876,997,000 in 1962. The significance of general aviation is demonstrated by the fact that in 1962 it represented over 98 percent of all civilian aircraft, flew 82 percent of the aircraft hours flown, and accounted for 69 percent of the aircraft miles flown. Since 1957, general aviation increased in number of planes over 20 percent; in hours flown, over 32 percent; and in aircraft miles flown, nearly 38 percent. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FOUR-STAR GENERAL KENNEY pays a remarkable tribute to a remarkable man in this biography. Colonel Paul Irwin (“Pappy”) Gunn met a tragic death in an airplane accident in the Philippines on October 11, 1957. Believing that our country owes a debt to a great character, a superb aviator, and a devoted American that has never been paid, General Kenney has written this story in the hope that it will help discharge a part of that debt. General Kenney’s own words serve better than any others to describe this book: “This is the story of an extraordinary character. He was one of the great heroes of the Southwest Pacific in World War II, a mechanical genius, and one of the finest storytellers I have ever known. His deeds were real. His stories were often fantasies but they will be told and retold as long as any of his comrades-in-arms are still alive and then will be handed down to succeeding generations of airmen. Pappy Gunn is already a legendary figure.” The saga of Pappy Gunn contains a wealth of stories, Spectacular things happened to this spectacular person....As the author points out, “He lived, died, and was even buried differently from other people.” Faithfully, but with humor and warmth and understanding, General Kenney has constructed the life story, the saga, of his friend, Pappy Gunn.
