Hier stellt Gott selbst das Modell auf, hier gibt die Offenbarung die "Meßlatte" vor, an der sich menschliches Miteinander zu orientieren hat. In Chiara Lubich und der Fokolarbewegung begegnet uns eine moderne Spiritualität, die in wenigen Jahrzehnten zahlenmäßig große Verbreitung erfahren hat, aber auch in ihren Strukturen eine der Kirche insgesamt vergleichbare Breite entfaltete. Das Schlüsselwort ihrer Sendung lautet Einheit, Ausdruck von Gemeinschaft, die aus gegenseitiger Liebe und Hingabe entsteht und lebt. Vor allem Planen und Handeln geht es den Anhängern dieser Spiritualität um die Gegenwart dessen, der diese Einheit verwirklichen und fruchtbar machen kann: Gott soll in der Mitte seines Volkes wohnen (vgl. The outlines of Laski’s theology--which viewed the congregation as the communion of the body of Christ--are described in comparison to the approaches of other Reformers and in relationship to daily reality in the second half of the sixteenth century. Working from a rich base of source materials, the author discusses the development of teachings on church offices and the practice of church discipline, thus illuminating the self-understanding of the three congregations. Becker shows how reciprocal influences and attempts to conform led to the unification of doctrine and community life within these congregations.

Book excerpt: In the attempt to overcome the crisis of knowledge in wisdom thought, even the non-Essene texts from Qumran developed the wisdom notion of a pre-existent order of being and history which was to be realised in the Eschaton. This notion was taken up in non-wisdom texts and elaborated into a dualistic ordering of the world and of history, structured in epochs. In this form the notion was used by the Essene community to deal theologically with their negative experience of reality (schism, persecution by Hasmonoaeans, delay of the Eschaton). The results of this investigation are thus able to confirm critical points of the thesis of G. von Rad that apocalyptic developed out of wisdom.
