Book Heidegger Dilthey and the Crisis of Historicism

Download or read book Heidegger Dilthey and the Crisis of Historicism written by Charles R. Bambach and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2018-09-05 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The collapse of historicism was not merely the demise of an academic tradition but signified a shift in the understanding of hermeneutics and metaphysics. Whereas earlier books have explored the rise and dominance of historicism within academic history, this is the first to trace its collapse and to show how it was shaped by larger philosophical and scientific concerns. Charles R. Bambach's lucid account of the demise of historicism within the context of German metaphysics provides a rich new perspective on the development of the young Heidegger's concept of "historicity" and on the origins of postmodern thought. Bambach reconstructs the methodological debates arising from a pervasive sense of crisis among German philosophers in the late nineteenth century. He details the divergent attempts by the Neo-Kantians, Nietzsche, and Dilthey to overcome the limitations of historical relativism. Heidegger's view of "historicity," Bambach shows, radically transforms the problematic of historicism into a discourse concerning the crisis of philosophical modernity.

We are pleased to present you with this collection of some of Mr. LaRouche’s most important and influential writings and presentations upon the subject of education, pedagogy, creativity and curriculum.

Book Commenting on Aristotle s Rhetoric from Antiquity to the Present Commenter la Rh torique d Aristote de l Antiquit la p riode contemporaine

Download or read book Commenting on Aristotle s Rhetoric from Antiquity to the Present Commenter la Rh torique d Aristote de l Antiquit la p riode contemporaine written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-07-23 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume brings together thirteen articles as so many chapters of a book, devoted to the history, methods, and practices of the commentaries that have been written on Aristotle’s Rhetoric. Examining both the linguistic and factual background, these contributions attempt to insert each of the commentaries into its particular historical, political, social, philosophical, and pedagogical context. The historical periods and geographical areas that arise – from Greco-Roman antiquity to Heidegger’s philosophy, from the Syriac and Arabic traditions to the Western world – make it possible, in sum, not only to indicate how the Rhetoric has been read and interpreted, but also to offer general perspectives on the practice of explicating ancient texts.

  • Author : Michael Shermer
  • Publisher : Univ of California Press

  • ISBN : 0520944097

Download or read book Denying History written by Michael Shermer and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2023-11-10 with total page 553 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Denying History takes a bold and in-depth look at those who say the Holocaust never happened and explores the motivations behind such claims. While most commentators have dismissed the Holocaust deniers as antisemitic neo-Nazi thugs who do not deserve a response, historians Michael Shermer and Alex Grobman have immersed themselves in the minds and culture of these Holocaust "revisionists." In the process, they show how we can be certain that the Holocaust happened and, for that matter, how we can confirm any historical event. This edition is expanded with a new chapter and epilogue examining current, shockingly mainstream revisionism.

Book Being Moved

Download or read book Being Moved written by Daniel M. Gross and published by University of California Press. This book was released on 2020-03-03 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If rhetoric is the art of speaking, who is listening? In Being-Moved, Daniel M. Gross provides an answer, showing when and where the art of speaking parted ways with the art of listening – and what happens when they intersect once again. Much in the history of rhetoric must be rethought along the way. And much of this rethinking pivots around Martin Heidegger’s early lectures on Aristotle’s Rhetoric where his famous topic, Being, gives way to being-moved. The results, Gross goes on to show, are profound. Listening to the gods, listening to the world around us, and even listening to one another in the classroom – all of these experiences become different when rhetoric is reoriented from the voice to the ear.

Book Einleitung in die Ethik

    Book Details:
  • Author : Edmund Husserl
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2004-08-16
  • ISBN : 9781402019944
  • Pages : 562 pages

Download or read book Einleitung in die Ethik written by Edmund Husserl and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-08-16 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Wittgenstein and the Nature of Violence

Download or read book Wittgenstein and the Nature of Violence written by R. Krishnaswamy and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2020-05-31 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do we explain violence? What is so significant of modern forms of violence that it has produced such large-scale destruction in its wake? This volume builds on the political philosophy of Wittgenstein, his notions of peace and violence, to explore how violence in any form is contained in culturally or ideologically formed institutions. Drawing on Wittgenstein’s work on language, it explores the link between language and violence, everydayness and culture. It examines everyday instances of micro-violence that we sometimes forget to recall. This book puts forth the claim that any theory of violence will have to touch on the myriad – both micro and macro – political, social and cultural interactions that make up the human condition. The author further comments on the unseen ways violence has been instrumentalized in modern history’s many stages to create a spectacle of power to reinforce authority. The volume will be of great interest to students and scholars of peace and conflict studies, political philosophy, linguistics and modern history.
