The Guide aims to address Assessment Objectives AO1, AO2, AO3 for the examination of this component, namely: AO1: Read, understand and respond to texts. Students should be able to: -maintain a critical style and develop an informed personal response -use textual references, including quotations, to support and illustrate interpretations. NOTE: There is no requirement to compare texts. AO2: Analyse the language, form and structure used by a writer to create meanings and effects, using relevant subject terminology where appropriate. Download or read book Odour of Chrysanthemums written by David Lawrence and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-02-12 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The small locomotive engine, Number 4, came clanking, stumbling down from Selston-with seven full waggons. It appeared round the corner with loud threats of speed, but the colt that it startled from among the gorse, which still flickered indistinctly in the raw afternoon, outdistanced it at a canter. A woman, walking up the railway line to Underwood, drew back into the hedge, held her basket aside, and watched the footplate of the engine advancing. The trucks thumped heavily past, one by one, with slow inevitable movement, as she stood insignificantly trapped between the jolting black waggons and the hedge; then they curved away towards the coppice where the withered oak leaves dropped noiselessly, while the birds, pulling at the scarlet hips beside the track, made off into the dusk that had already crept into the spinney. In the open, the smoke from the engine sank and cleaved to the rough grass. The fields were dreary and forsaken, and in the marshy strip that led to the whimsey, a reedy pit-pond, the fowls had already abandoned their run among the alders, to roost in the tarred fowl-house.

Download or read book I Wanna Be Yours written by John Cooper Clarke and published by Pan Macmillan. This book was released on 2020-10-15 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'One of Britain's outstanding poets' Sir Paul McCartney 'Riveting' Observer 'An exuberant account of a remarkable life' New Statesman This is a memoir as wry, funny, moving and vivid as its inimitable subject himself. This book will be a joy for both lifelong fans and for a whole new generation. John Cooper Clarke is a phenomenon: Poet Laureate of Punk, rock star, fashion icon, TV and radio presenter, social and cultural commentator. At 5 feet 11 inches (32in chest, 27in waist), in trademark dark suit, dark glasses, with dark messed-up hair and a mouth full of gold teeth, he is instantly recognizable. As a writer his voice is equally unmistakable and his own brand of slightly sick humour is never far from the surface. I Wanna Be Yours covers an extraordinary life, filled with remarkable personalities: from Nico to Chuck Berry, from Bernard Manning to Linton Kwesi Johnson, Elvis Costello to Gregory Corso, Gil Scott Heron, Mark E. Smith and Joe Strummer, and on to more recent fans and collaborators Alex Turner, Plan B and Guy Garvey. Interspersed with stories of his rock and roll and performing career, John also reveals his boggling encyclopaedic take on popular culture over the centuries: from Baudelaire and Edgar Allan Poe to Pop Art, pop music, the movies, fashion, football and showbusiness – and much, much more, plus a few laughs along the way.
