Book Gas Chromatographic Retention Indices of Solvents and Other Volatile Substances for Use in Toxicological Analysis

Download or read book Gas Chromatographic Retention Indices of Solvents and Other Volatile Substances for Use in Toxicological Analysis written by The International Association and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 1992-11-04 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new publication is the latest result of further fruitful cooperation between the Committee for Systematic Toxicological Analysis of TIAFT and the Senate Commission for Clinical-Toxicological Analysis of the DFG. It provides reliable gas chromatographic retention indices for volatile substances frequently encountered in analytical toxicology. It is the first book of its kind that contains data bases for two different types of Carbowax columns, one based primarily on adsorption chromatography, the other on partition chromatography. The retention values for some 300 toxicologically relevant volatile substances are given as Retention Indices, using n-alcohols as reference standards (methanol, ethanol, n-propanol-1, etc.). The data bases cover the large majority of volatiles used in the laboratory, in industry, in household products and in solvent abuse.

Book Retention and Selectivity in Liquid Chromatography

Download or read book Retention and Selectivity in Liquid Chromatography written by R.M. Smith and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1995-01-13 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together a number of studies which examine the ways in which the retention and selectivity of separations in high-performance liquid chromatography are dependent on the chemical structure of the analytes and the properties of the stationary and mobile phases. Although previous authors have described the optimisation of separations by alteration of the mobile phase, little emphasis has previously been reported of the influence of the structure and properties of the analyte. The initial chapters describe methods based on retention index group increments and log P increments for the prediction of the retention of analytes and the ways in which these factors are influenced by mobile phases and intramolecular interactions. The values of a wide range of group increments in different eluents are tabulated.Different scales of retention indices in liquid chromatography are described for the comparison of separations, the identification of analytes and the comparison of stationary phases. Applications of these methods in the pharmaceutical, toxicology, forensic, metabolism, environmental, food and other fields are reviewed. The effects of different mobile phases on the selectivity of the retention indices are reported. A compilation of sources of reported retention index values are given. Methods for the comparison of stationary phases based on the interactions of different analytes are covered, including lipophilic and polar indices, shape selectivity comparisons, their application to novel stationary phases, and chemometric methods for column comparisons.

Download or read book Forensic Science written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-09-22 with total page 1047 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forensic Science, Second Edition presents the applications of separation methods, manly chromatography, in forensic practice. The first part, devoted to forensic toxicology, contains reviews on forensic relevant groups of compounds, like: Opiate agonists, cocaine, amphetamines, hallucinogens, cannabinoids, sedatives and hypnotics, antidepressive and antipsychotic drugs, analgesics, antidiabetics, muscle relaxants, and mushroom toxins. In these parts, the preliminary immunochemical tests were also included, together with separation methods. Screening procedures used in forensic toxicology were presented in separate chapters on forensic screening with GC, GC-MS, HPLC, LC-MS, CE, and LC-ICP-MS. In the part on actual and emerging problems of forensic toxicology, following chapters were included: Analytical markers of alcohol abuse, toxicological aspects of herbal remedies, drugs and driving, analysis in alternative matrices, doping analysis, pharmacogenomics in forensic toxicology, and quality assurance. The second part presents application of separation methods in forensic chemistry, and comprises chapters on: Explosives, chemical warfare agents, arson analysis, and writing media. Third part on forensic identification contains chapter on forensic genetics. All chapters are written up-to-date and present specific information up to 2006. The authors of each chapter are known not only from their scientific activity, but are also reputed experts, proven in everyday forensic casework. - Wide spectrum of topics presented - Up-to-date presentation of topics - Data are presented in comparative mode - Special stress put on screening procedures

Book Practical Gas Chromatography

Download or read book Practical Gas Chromatography written by Katja Dettmer-Wilde and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-05 with total page 904 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gas chromatography continues to be one of the most widely used analytical techniques, since its applications today expand into fields such as biomarker research or metabolomics. This new practical textbook enables the reader to make full use of gas chromatography. Essential fundamentals and their implications for the practical work at the instrument are provided, as well as details on the instrumentation such as inlet systems, columns and detectors. Specialized techniques from all aspects of GC are introduced ranging from sample preparation, solvent-free injection techniques, and pyrolysis GC, to separation including fast GC and comprehensive GCxGC and finally detection, such as GC-MS and element-specific detection. Various fields of application such as enantiomer, food, flavor and fragrance analysis, physicochemical measurements, forensic toxicology, and clinical analysis are discussed as well as cutting-edge application in metabolomics is covered.

Book How Tobacco Smoke Causes Disease

Download or read book How Tobacco Smoke Causes Disease written by United States. Public Health Service. Office of the Surgeon General and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 728 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report considers the biological and behavioral mechanisms that may underlie the pathogenicity of tobacco smoke. Many Surgeon General's reports have considered research findings on mechanisms in assessing the biological plausibility of associations observed in epidemiologic studies. Mechanisms of disease are important because they may provide plausibility, which is one of the guideline criteria for assessing evidence on causation. This report specifically reviews the evidence on the potential mechanisms by which smoking causes diseases and considers whether a mechanism is likely to be operative in the production of human disease by tobacco smoke. This evidence is relevant to understanding how smoking causes disease, to identifying those who may be particularly susceptible, and to assessing the potential risks of tobacco products.
