Book Gardens and the Warrior of Heaven

Download or read book Gardens and the Warrior of Heaven written by Jamon Miller and published by Createspace. This book was released on 2013-03-13 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was sometime in the twenty-first century, when one discovery revolutionized the world further than any ever before it. This was the discovery of a nonlinear power, which lies inside of every living and nonliving organism on the planet. Its discoverers termed it Meteora. With it came the ability to tap into a clean, seemingly unlimited source of energy. With further study, it was found that only a few genetically gifted individuals could use this power World War III was fought between these new beings and the United Governments of the world. After fighting to a stalemate, the governments and the beings who had access to this power, now known as Homospiritus, came to an agreement called the Accords. Code 23: By law, all children born who are capable of using Meteora will be taken for safety reasons to Gardens to learn to control their powers, and serve the greater good of the commonwealth. Which meant to become a soldier in the army of the new world order. Tenchi was four years old when they came for him. Despite the best efforts by his mother to keep him hidden and safe, he was taken by force to Juneau Gardens, which is the home of the Homospiritus and the new governing order of the former United States of America, now named Juneau. It is a Gardens itself, one of a series of peaceful and beautiful utopian societies made up of the now free Homospiritus who, under the terms of the Accords, were allowed their independence and sovereignty. Gardens are realms, which demonstrate the height of Meteora manipulation and the coming together of humans with Meteora to create a utopian, Shangri-La-like paradise on a level with the Garden of Eden. Now inside of Gardens, Tenchi is swept up in a world of Meteora, fighting, and war, to protect a world he does not really feel a part of. He is taken from his home, his mother, and the only family he has ever known and commissioned to fight in a war for the peace and safety of the planet. He is forced to go through rigorous training and trials, as well as torment from other Homospiritus, when the only thing he truly cares about is getting home to his mother. And, after six years in the Gardens’ Academy comes to an end, he seems to get his chance when, at the age of ten, Tenchi graduates. Now he is an apprentice, under the command of a Master Agent who guards, trains, and protects him and his two other apprentices, Ko and Suki. In the field as a second level of training, Tenchi has a greater degree of freedom, though under the careful guidance and tutelage of Master Agent Shaun. The team members begin their journey all over the world carrying out peace missions while simultaneously improving and learning how to better use Meteora in real-life battle situations, all to prepare the young Agents to eventually go out on their own. This is vital, as it is public knowledge that the life of an apprentice is a very short one. Tenchi is then swept up in a series of missions, both dangerous and important to the fate and the safety of the whole world. Eventually, he is sent on a mission where he encounters terrorists with nuclear arms who have also taken their own dark dive into the use of Meteora, only to corrupt it. Tenchi is given the chance to abandon his mission and continue his own, which has always been to return to his mother. But now he is faced with a choice, to return home or to fight to secure and prevent the misuse of The Sword of Heaven, an ancient weapon of unparalleled power forged of Meteora itself. If not kept in check, The Sword will throw the world into an apocalyptic age from which we may never recover, a fate that will visit both Homospiritus and humankind alike.

Book excerpt: In this eloquent plea for compassion and respect for all species, journalist and gardener Nancy Lawson describes why and how to welcome wildlife to our backyards. Through engaging anecdotes and inspired advice, profiles of home gardeners throughout the country, and interviews with scientists and horticulturalists, Lawson applies the broader lessons of ecology to our own outdoor spaces. Detailed chapters address planting for wildlife by choosing native species; providing habitats that shelter baby animals, as well as birds, bees, and butterflies; creating safe zones in the garden; cohabiting with creatures often regarded as pests; letting nature be your garden designer; and encouraging natural processes and evolution in the garden. The Humane Gardener fills a unique niche in describing simple principles for both attracting wildlife and peacefully resolving conflicts with all the creatures that share our world.

Book The Skycourt and Skygarden

Download or read book The Skycourt and Skygarden written by Jason Pomeroy and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-20 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Population increases, advances in technology and the continued trend towards inner-city migration have transformed the traditional city of spaces into the modern city of objects. This has necessitated alternative spatial and technological solutions to replenish those environments that were once so intrinsic to society’s day-to-day interactions and communal activities. This book considers skycourts and skygardens as ‘alternative social spaces’ that form part of a broader multi-level urban infrastructure – seeking to make good the loss of open space within the built environment. Jason Pomeroy begins the discussion with the decline of the public realm, and how the semi-public realm has been incorporated into a spatial hierarchy that supports the primary figurative spaces on the ground or, in their absence, creates them in the sky. He then considers skycourts and skygardens in terms of the social, cultural, economic, environmental, technological and spatial benefits that they provide to the urban habitat. Pomeroy concludes by advocating a new hybrid that can harness the social characteristics of the public domain, but be placed within buildings as an alternative communal space for the 21st century. Using graphics and full colour images throughout, the author explores 40 current and forthcoming skycourt and skygarden projects from around the world, including the Shard (London), Marina Bay Sands (Singapore), the Shanghai Tower (China) and the Lotte Tower (South Korea).

Book Of Gardens

  • Author : Paula Deitz
  • Publisher : University of Pennsylvania Press
  • Release : 2011-11-29
  • ISBN : 0812206967
  • Pages : 383 pages

Download or read book Of Gardens written by Paula Deitz and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2011-11-29 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paula Deitz has delighted readers for more than thirty years with her vivid descriptions of both famous and hidden landscapes. Her writings allow readers to share in the experience of her extensive travels, from the waterways of Britain's Castle Howard to the Japanese gardens of Kyoto, and home again to New York City's Central Park. Collected for the first time, the essays in Of Gardens record her great adventure of continual discovery, not only of the artful beauty of individual gardens but also of the intellectual and historical threads that weave them into patterns of civilization, from the modest garden for family subsistence to major urban developments. Deitz's essays describe how people, over many centuries and in many lands, have expressed their originality by devoting themselves to cultivation and conservation. During a visit to the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Garden in Seal Harbor, Maine, Deitz first came to appreciate the notion that landscape architecture can be as intricately conceived as any major structure and is, indeed, the means by which we redeem the natural environment through design. Years later, as she wandered through the gardens of Versailles, she realized that because gardens give structure without confinement, they encourage a liberation of movement and thought. In Of Gardens, we follow Deitz down paths of revelation, viewing "A Bouquet of British Parks: Liverpool, Edinburgh, and London"; the parks and promenades of Jerusalem; the Moonlight Garden of the Taj Mahal; a Tuscan-style villa in southern California; and the rooftop garden at Tokyo's Mori Center, among many other sites. Deitz covers individual landscape architects and designers, including André Le Nôtre, Frederick Law Olmsted, Beatrix Farrand, Russell Page, and Michael Van Valkenburgh. She then features an array of parks, public places, and gardens before turning her attention to the burgeoning business of flower shows. The volume concludes with a memorable poetic epilogue entitled "A Winter Garden of Yellow."

Book excerpt: Ancient wisdom tells us that gardens have a healing, nourishing effect on the human soul and body. The garden belongs to the great archetype of life and is one of the few big archetypal images that are experienced primarily as positive. This positive experience is significant because the garden is a part of the natural and cultural human environment, and thus, is particularly influential in the interaction between human beings and their environment.

Book excerpt: The Floating Gardens are a beautiful spot where the sky and the ground meet in a strange setting. Lily, her friends Max and Sara, and I go on an amazing adventure to find these hidden gardens in the sky in this story. Lily's grandmother finds an old, torn book with a plan to the Floating Gardens in her attic, which is the start of our journey. People only hear about the gardens in bedtime stories. They are a wonderful and beautiful secret place. Max and Sara are interested and excited when Lily tells them about what she found, and the three of them decide to find this mysterious spot. It's not easy for the friends on their early-morning hike. They are always brave and determined, even as they cross raging rivers, climb steep mountains, and walk through dense woods. On their journey, they come across the Whispering Trees. These ancient guardians speak to them in whispers, giving them mysteries and hints that lead to the secret passageway that goes up into the sky. They are met by a world they could never have imagined when they get to the Floating Gardens. This paradise is full of flowers of every color, rivers, and paths that float on water. The Garden Keepers are friendly beings who welcome visitors, take care of the gardens, and teach them about the past and natural balance of the area, stressing how important each plant and animal is. The grounds change as the day goes on. To honor the balance of nature, kids are called to a feast while flowers bloom under the moonlight. But soon, a fierce storm breaks their peace. Students learn how important it is to work together and think quickly as they help the Garden Keepers protect the plants. After the storm, the kids think back on their trip and learn how important it is to take care of the environment and how strong communities are. Additionally, the Garden Keepers thank them for their bravery and give them a small, sparkling seed. It's time to go home. This fall, there are a lot of jokes and stories about the crazy things they did. Lily plants the glowing seed in her yard when they get back home. It grows into a beautiful tree that will always remind her of their amazing trip. In addition to finding a mysterious place, they learned how to be brave in their own lives and how important it is to protect the earth. We learn about the power of friendship, the importance of being strong, and the beauty of nature from this interesting story. The Floating Gardens went from being just a story to being a big part of Lily, Max, and Sara's lives. It's a secret journey that keeps showing them the beauty around them and how strong they are when they help each other. Chapter 1: The Secret Map. Lily was shocked to find the old book in her grandmother's attic, hidden under other old treasures that no one had seen in years. Strange things from the past and old riches made the attic a great place to be. They were having a nice, sunny afternoon when she came across something very amazing while they were walking around. This book wasn't like other books; it was old, dusty, and had a broken cover from being stored for years. Lily was most interested in the map that was tucked inside the covers. If you don't believe in magic, you can't find the famous Floating Gardens, which are high in the sky and can only be reached by a guide. Before Lily went to sleep, her grandma would tell her many stories about these gardens. There would be green leaves, singing flowers, rivers that sparkled in the moonlight, and trees that whispered secrets from long ago. Lily was so excited and happy that she had to tell her best friends, Sara and Max, about what she had found. Max was the brave one who was always looking for an adventure, while Sara was smart and good at solving puzzles. They were great together on any trip, but this one was going to be the best because they were friends. Lily called them over, and her voice was shaking with excitement. Max and Sara ran to the scene, looking deeply interested and thrilled. "I found a map!" she exclaimed, "a map to the Floating Gardens!" Everyone gathered around the torn book and looked closely at the map. Small details made the way through dense forests, vast deserts, and beautiful mountains stand out. The drawing was very well done. The map also showed a hidden path that went straight to the Floating Gardens and then vanished into the sky. It was important to them to find this secret path, even though they knew it would be hard because it would be like finding a place from their dreams. For the rest of the day, they used the old book to learn everything they could about the Floating Gardens, plan their route, and gather supplies. People who really trusted in the miracles of nature could go to these gardens and find a paradise full of magic and beauty. There was no doubt that Max, Sara, and Lily would find the Floating Gardens and share their beauty, no matter how hard the trip would be. They could feel the start of an adventure that would change their lives forever as the sun went down and the sky turned orange and pink. This was the start of an exciting and difficult trip to a spot where dreams could come true—where the sky met the earth. Chapter 2: The Journey Begins As dawn broke, Lily, Max, and Sara set out on their grand journey. The sky was a beautiful mix of pink and gold. With a mix of excitement and worry in their hearts, they stepped out into the cool morning air, Lily's backpack holding the old map safely. All of a sudden, they saw the world as full of exciting things they didn't know and new things they could find.
