Book The Ecology of Trees in the Tropical Rain Forest

Download or read book The Ecology of Trees in the Tropical Rain Forest written by I. M. Turner and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2001-07-05 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our knowledge of the ecology of tropical rain-forest trees is limited, yet a good understanding of the trees is essential to unravelling the workings of the forest itself. This book aims to summarise contemporary understanding of the ecology of tropical rain-forest trees, with particular emphasis on comparative ecology.

Book Dynamics of Tropical Communities

Download or read book Dynamics of Tropical Communities written by D. M. Newbery and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1998-08 with total page 660 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 1998 volume challenges the validity of the dynamic equilibrium concept for tropical forests.

Book Seedling Ecology and Evolution

Download or read book Seedling Ecology and Evolution written by Mary Allessio Leck and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2008-09-18 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seedlings are highly sensitive to their environment. After seeds, they typically suffer the highest mortality of any life history stage. This book provides a comprehensive exploration of the seedling stage of the plant life cycle. It considers the importance of seedlings in plant communities; environmental factors with special impact on seedlings; the morphological and physiological diversity of seedlings including mycorrhizae; the relationship of the seedling with other life stages; seedling evolution; and seedlings in human altered ecosystems, including deserts, tropical rainforests, and habitat restoration projects. The diversity of seedlings is portrayed by including specialised groups like orchids, bromeliads, and parasitic and carnivorous plants. Discussions of physiology, morphology, evolution and ecology are brought together to focus on how and why seedlings are successful. This important text sets the stage for future research and is valuable to graduate students and researchers in plant ecology, botany, agriculture and conservation.

Book Tropical Cloud Forest Ecology in Hainan Island

Download or read book Tropical Cloud Forest Ecology in Hainan Island written by Wenxing Long and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-09-19 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces ecology of tropical cloud forests in China, a high-altitudinal tropical forest. The findings are novel in revealing environmental characteristics, community features, diversity patterns, plant strategies, community assembly mechanisms, and diversity-ecosystem functions of tropical cloud forests in China. The knowledge of this book will bridge the gaps of our understanding on the tropical forest in China and the world-wide, and will enrich the theory of tropical forest community ecology.Written by experts in the field, this book will serve as an invaluable reference for tropical forest ecology researchers.

Book Physiological ecology of plants of the wet tropics

Download or read book Physiological ecology of plants of the wet tropics written by Ernesto Medina and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the results of a Symposium on the physiological ecology of plants of the lowland wet tropics held in Mexico in June 1983 organized by the Instituto de Biologla of the National University of M"exico (U. N . A. M. ), and sponsored by UNAM, CONACYT, NSF and UNESCO (CIET). A workshop portion of the Symposium was held at the tropical research station at Los Tuxtlas, Veracruz. This Symposium originated in response to the increasing interest in the physiological ecology of tropical plants, because of the potential. of this field to provide a basic understanding of functioning of tropical plant communities. The study of physiological ecology of tropical plants has been delayed in some cases by the lack of conceptual framework, but also by the absence of appropriate instrumentation and techniques with which to conduct precise measurements under high temperature, high humidity field conditions. Hypotheses and concepts of the physiological ecology of tropical plants have been based mainly on observational data and the analysis of growth forms and leaf anatomf. The early work of A. F. W. Schimper and o. Stocker in Asia, and the extensive surveys made by H. Walter on the osmotic potentials of plants in the tropics and subtropics, constituted, until relatively recently, the only available information on the water and carbon relations of tropical plants.

Book The Ecology of Tropical Forest Tree Seedlings

Download or read book The Ecology of Tropical Forest Tree Seedlings written by Mike D. Swaine and published by Unesco. This book was released on 1996 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume brings together findings of key research scientists into seedling establishment and environmental requirements in many different forest situations. Commercial and native forest species are examined from different forest types and from different countries. Addressed are such issues as the demography, morphology and physiology of seedlings and their responses to the availability of resources, notably light, nutrient and water. The audience for this book will include foresters, ecologists and resource managers who are interested in the structure, functioning and regeneration of tropical forests.
