Book Gamma ray Spectroscopy of In situ SNM with the M3CA and a New Room temperature Detector

Download or read book Gamma ray Spectroscopy of In situ SNM with the M3CA and a New Room temperature Detector written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Compact, rugged, efficient, and reliable room-temperature gamma ray detectors with better energy resolution are need for in situ applications. These improved detectors are sought as alternatives to the compact NaI(T1) detectors now available. A promising approach is an elegant new design that benefits fully form the recent advances in solid-state materials technology for production of large, good quality crystals of CdZnTe for room-temperature gamma ray spectroscopy. The new detector, equipped with simple but innovative electrode technology to address intrinsic charge-collection deficiencies, operates with the new self-contained portable gamma spectroscopy system, the miniature modular multichannel analyzer (M3CA), without added layers of electronic complexity for pulse processing. Applications of in situ NDA for portable determinations of fixed uranium and plutonium quantities and the continuous assay of dynamic quantities of these materials will provide the test criteria for evaluating the performance of such detectors operating with the M3CA.

Book Research on CdZnTe and Other Novel Room Temperature Gamma Ray Spectrometer Materials

Download or read book Research on CdZnTe and Other Novel Room Temperature Gamma Ray Spectrometer Materials written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Room temperature gamma-ray spectrometers are being developed for a number of years for national security applications where high sensitivity, low operating power and compactness are indispensable. The technology has matured now to the point where large volume (several cubic centimeters) and high energy resolution (approximately 1% at 660 eV) of gamma photons, are becoming available for their incorporation into portable systems for remote sensing of signatures from nuclear materials.

Book Advances in Room temperature Solid state Gamma ray Spectrometry

Download or read book Advances in Room temperature Solid state Gamma ray Spectrometry written by and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This article presents a review and analysis of different concepts of gamma-ray spectrometry using room-temperature solid-state detectors. The classical approach involving the use of a charge-sensitive preamplifier and attempting to collect all the ionization charge produced by the gamma ray is analyzed and discussed in terms of the charge transport parameters of the most promising compound semiconductor materials. It is concluded that compound semiconductor detector materials having a large disparity between the .mu. tau products for electrons and holes (such as HgI2 and CdTe) will have rather poor energy resolution if the classical method of spectrometry requiring full charge collection is employed. 30 references.

Book SNM Gamma ray Fingerprint Monitor Functional Requirements and Design Specifications

Download or read book SNM Gamma ray Fingerprint Monitor Functional Requirements and Design Specifications written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A number of DOE facilities need to perform confirmatory inventory measurements on items of special nuclear material (SNM). The DOE Office of Safeguards and Security (OSS) has tasked the Safeguards, Safety and Nonproliferation Division (SSN) of the Department of Advanced Technology at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) to develop a high-resolution gamma-ray-spectroscopy-based instrument for performing confirmatory inventory measurements on such materials, a g̀̀amma-ray fingerprint monitor ̀̀(GRFM). This document is a conceptual design for the SSN GRFM system. This conceptual design is based on previous experience with measurements of plutonium-bearing materials and comparison of gamma-ray spectrum features, not on actual tests of the procedures or hardware described. As a result, modifications may be necessary when actual prototype hardware and software are tested in realistic circumstances on actual materials of interest.
