Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Linac time-of-flight technique has been used to measure the differential gamma-ray production cross sections for neutron interactions with natural Fe and Al in the neutron energy range 0.9 to 17 MeV. Ring-shaped scattering samples were placed at the terminus of a 51-meter neutron flight path at the Gulf Radiation Technology Linac facility. The gamma rays from (n, x gamma) reactions were detected with an 80-cc Ge(Li) detector placed on the centerline of the flight path so as to observe gamma rays emitted from the samples at an angle of about 125 degrees with respect to the incident neutron beam. This angle minimized the effect of gamma-ray anisotropy on the determination of the angle-integrated cross section. (Author).

This book was released on 1969 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A gamma-ray production cross section measurement facility is described in this report. This facility uses a LINAC as a neutron source and a Ge(Li) as the gamma detector. The facility was used to measure the gamma-ray production cross sections of nitrogen and oxygen for incident neutron energies of up to 16 MeV. The results are tabulated, graphed, and compared with other measurements. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental measurements of the differential cross sections for the production of gamma rays in natural silicon and tungsten in the energy range from 5.0 to 11.0 MeV are presented. Theoretical calculations of the production cross sections for silicon, based on statistical theory and the Satchler formalism, with modifications by Moldauer, have been made, and comparisons of these calculations and other nuclear model calculations with experiment are discussed.

Download or read book Gamma Ray Production Cross Sections for Carbon and Nitrogen from Threshold to 20 7 MeV written by V. C. Rogers and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gamma-ray production cross sections were measured for the 12C(n, x gamma) and 14N(n, x gamma) reactions from 2.0- to 20.7-MeV neutron energy using the Rad Tech Linac source. The carbon cross sections are presented for both high neutron resolution and ten broad neutron groups spanning the energy range. Cross sections for the discrete gamma-ray peaks from nitrogen are presented in twelve broad neutron groups as are the discrete plus continuum cross sections obtained by unfolding the gamma-ray spectra. The measured cross sections generally agree with the evaluations and with previous measurements.

This book was released on 1990 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The continuous energy (white) neutron source at the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility (LAMPF) is used to measure photon-production cross sections over a wide range of neutron energies. Detector systems have been or are being developed to measure gamma rays in the energy range from hundreds of keV up to several hundreds of MeV. In particular a high resolution Ge detector system is used to detect gamma rays from several hundred keV to over 6 MeV. A 5 crystal BGO detector system is used for measuring gamma-rays from 1 MeV to approximately 20 MeV. A large volume BGO detector with an active shield is used to measure gamma rays in the range from 5 to 40 MeV. We are presently developing a multi-element gamma-ray telescope to measure gamma rays with energies from 50 MeV up to several hundred MeV.

Book excerpt: Gamma production cross sections are presented as a function of l6 neutron lethargy groups and 11 photon energy groups for 13 elements and isotopes. They were computed by the program GAMMA-P and account for the production of gamma rays by neutron radiative capture, neutron inelastic scattering, neutron induced fissioning, and (n, alpha) reactions. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The initial purpose of this experiment was to provide a consistent data base of neutron-induced gamma-ray production cross sections over a large energy range for use in estimating elemental composition of the martian surface by observing gamma rays produced by cosmic ray interactions on the planet's surface [Bo02]. However, these data should be useful for other projects such as oil-well logging, accelerator transmutation of nuclear waste, shielding calculations, gamma-ray heating for nuclear reactors and verification of nuclear model calculations and databases. The goal of the measurements was to collect data on the strongest gamma rays from many samples of interest. Because of the available beam time this meant that many of the measurcments were rather short. Despite the short running time the large samples used and the good beam intensity resulted in very satisfactory results. The samples, chosen mainly as common constituents of rock and soil and measured in the same few week period, include: B &, BN, C, Al, Mg, Si, S, Cay Ti, Cr, Mn, and Fe. Be was also used as a neutron scatterer that only produces one gamma ray (478 keV from 7Li) with appreciable intensity. Thus Be can serve as a measure of neutron-induced backgrounds. In this first paper we present results for Fe.
