Book The Routledge Handbook of Discourse and Disinformation

Download or read book The Routledge Handbook of Discourse and Disinformation written by Stefania M. Maci and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-11-30 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook offers a comprehensive overview of research into discourses of disinformation, misinformation, post-truth, alternative facts, hate speech, conspiracy theories, and "fake news". Divided into two sections, it provides a detailed look at the methodological challenges and approaches for studying disinformation, along with a wide range of case studies covering everything from climate change denial to COVID-19 conspiracies. The studies address how discourses of disinformation are constructed and developed, what rhetorical and persuasive strategies they employ, how disinformation can be discerned from real news, and what steps we might take in order to create a more trustworthy news environment. Authored by leading experts from around the world, and showcasing the most up-to-date methodological approaches to the topic, the volume makes a significant contribution to current linguistic research on politics, and is an essential guide to the discourses of disinformation for advanced students and researchers of English language studies, linguistics, and media and communication studies.

Book Democracy and Citizenship in Scandinavia

Download or read book Democracy and Citizenship in Scandinavia written by J. Anderson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2001-07-18 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Major changes in citizenship and democracy have taken place in Scandinavia within the last two decades. Participation in conventional forms of politics has declined markedly, and the ability of institutions such as political parties and trade unions to deliver social mobility is being eroded. Instead, Scandinavians are turning towards single issue participation and 'small democracy' in the workplace or in public sector service institutions. The scenario is that of a 'spectator democracy' with engaged and conscious spectators who lack the long-term political commitment to engage actively in 'big democracy'. Also, Scandinavian citizenship is challenged by structural unemployment, EU membership, and immigration. This book deals with the details of these processes and in particular how they have affected political participation, identity and social polarization.

Book Political Parties and Interest Groups in Norway

Download or read book Political Parties and Interest Groups in Norway written by Elin Haugsgjerd Allern and published by ECPR Press. This book was released on 2024-10-31 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do today's political parties relate to other organisations? Do they prefer rather distant relationships with a wide range of interest groups – or have they virtually detached themselves from civil society altogether? Scholars seem to agree that traditionally close relationships – such as those between social democratic parties and trade unions – have grown weaker since the 1960s. But to date only limited systematic research has been conducted. While parties and interest groups attract a great deal of attention from political scientists, the links between them have been largely overlooked. This book is an attempt to bridge the gap, starting from the party side of the relationship. It throws new light on the topic by presenting a theory-driven, comprehensive study of Norway's seven major political parties and their relationships with interest groups at the beginning of the new millennium. Based on original and extensive data, including party documents, in-depth interviews with key players and a survey of national party elites, Elin Haugsgjerd Allern paints a nuanced picture of the nature and significance of these relationships and the factors that shape them. A major conclusion is that Norway's parties tend to maintain rather distant but wide-ranging relationships with interest groups today. However, some parties still have fairly strong links with their traditional associates and a narrower network of links with other groups. Hence, Allern also shows that significant differences exist between parties that are apparently exposed to the same social, political and institutional environment.

Book Parliamentary Change in the Nordic Countries

Download or read book Parliamentary Change in the Nordic Countries written by Erik Damgaard and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1992 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is the first major analysis of parliamentary developments in the Nordic countries of Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Sweden. It deals with parliamentary change in the past few decades in a comparative and systematic manner. All four countries have experienced increasing legislative activity. In Norway, Denmark, and Sweden, increased conflict and party conflict competition are also revealed, and the parliaments of the three countries have become more powerful. However, the governments of the three countries have become weaker and more unstable. In Finland, on the other hand, developments have been almost in the opposite direction. The book attempts to explain similarities and differences of parliamentary government in the four Nordic countries.
