Der chronologische Rahmen reicht vom Neolithikum Westsyriens (K. Bartl) und Sudwestanatoliens (E. Abay) bis zur Romanisierung Ostsyriens(A. Dabei werden bau- und kunstgeschichtliche Fragen zur Architektur von Hama (P. Matthiae), Karkamis (M. Pucci), Tall Seh Hamad (A. Kose) und Kar Tukulti-Ninurta (A. Gilibert) ebenso thematisiert wie die Bestattungssitten in Tell Sabi Abyad (P. Akkermans/ E. Smits), Tall Knedig (S. Kulemann-Ossen/L. Martin) und Dur Katlimmu (J. Kreppner). W. Rollig, K. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph on the Central European Magdalenian aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the archaeological record of this period. It sheds new light on five regional groups between the Rhône valley to the west and the Vistula-valley to the east, which existed roughly between 20,000 and 14,000 years ago. Readers will discover that these groups are characterized with regard to their environmental setting (including faunal and vegetational aspects), lithic raw material and mollusk shell procurement, typology, technology and artesian craftworks. The work also explores an alternative interpretation of bidirectional recolonization from both Franco-Cantabria and Eastern Central Europe after the Last Glacial Maximum. This book will appeal to researchers and scholars in archaeology and cognate fields.

Book Down By the River

Download or read book Down By the River written by Benjamin Gearey and published by Oxbow Books. This book was released on 2016-05-31 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: East Anglia has long been known for its internationally significant cultural and environmental Palaeolithic archaeology, often overshadowing the potential of its Holocene resource. This volume details the results of 8 years of palaeoenvironmental, archaeological and geoarchaeological investigations focused on the post-glacial history and evolution of the Suffolk river valleys, funded by Historic England and a number of commercial developers. The volume illustrates the largely untapped research potential of the region and provides information concerning the timing, pattern and process of alluvial development, landscape change, and human activity. The highlight of these investigations was the excavation and associated analyses of three well-preserved later prehistoric timber alignments and their environmental records, discovered during flood alleviation works on the floodplain of the lower Waveney Valley. As well as documenting these internationally significant remains, the research described includes innovative approaches to wetland archaeological and palaeoenvironmental study, highlighting important methodological considerations with respect to radiocarbon dating and chronology, applying novel geophysical approaches to site prospection, and recording wooden artefacts using 3-D laser scanning. The volume also discusses the results of groundwater monitoring of sediments containing the late prehistoric timber alignment at Beccles and considers the longer-term preservation potential of these fragile remains, which – as with other wetland archaeological sites – are at ever increasing risk from development pressures, as well as the longer term impacts of climate and environmental change.

Download or read book Byzantium Pliska and the Balkans written by Joachim Henning and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2009-05-05 with total page 764 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MILLENNIUM pursues an interdisciplinary approach transcending historical eras. The STUDIES present relevant monographs or collections of papers from across the whole range of topics. The YEARBOOK contains authoritative articles. As the links between the various articles are sketched out in a comprehensive editorial, their diversity is intended to encourage dialogue between the disciplines and national research cultures. MILLENNIUM does not publish individual reviews, but does on occasions produce literature surveys. The languages of publication are principally English and German, but articles in French, Italian and Spanish can also be accommodated.
