Book Fundamental Limits on NOx Reduction by Plasma

Download or read book Fundamental Limits on NOx Reduction by Plasma written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper discusses the gas-phase reaction mechanisms for removal of NO(subscript x) in a plasma. The effect of oxygen content on the competition between the reduction and oxidation processes is discussed. The effect of the electron kinetic energy distribution on the radical production and subsequent chemistry is then discussed in order to predict the best performance that can be achieved for NO(subscript x) reduction using the plasma alone. The fundamental limit on the minimum electrical energy consumption that will be required to implement NO(subscript x) reduction in any type of plasma reactor is established.

Book Fundamental Limits on Gas Phase Chemical Reduction of NOx in a Plasma

Download or read book Fundamental Limits on Gas Phase Chemical Reduction of NOx in a Plasma written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper examines the gas-phase chemical reduction of NOx. It is shown that under the best conditions, the plasma can chemically reduce 1.6 grams of NOx per brake-horsepower-hour when 5% of the engine output energy is delivered to the plasma. This NOx reduction efficiency is a fundamental limit that cannot be exceeded in the absence of heterogeneous reactions or chemical additives. Higher NOx removal efficiencies would suggest reactions of plasma oxidation products (such as NO2 or nitric acid) on surfaces or particulates.

Book excerpt: The objective of this paper is to establish the fundamental limits on the minimum electrical energy consumption that will be required to implement true chemical reduction of NOx by the plasma alone. The effect of background gas composition particularly the oxygen content on the completion between the reduction and oxidation processes will be discussed. The effect of the electron kinetic energy distribution on the radical production and subsequent chemistry will also be discussed.

Book Fuel Cells Technologies for Fuel Processing

Download or read book Fuel Cells Technologies for Fuel Processing written by Dushyant Shekhawat and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-03-18 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fuel Cells: Technologies for Fuel Processing provides an overview of the most important aspects of fuel reforming to the generally interested reader, researcher, technologist, teacher, student, or engineer. The topics covered include all aspects of fuel reforming: fundamental chemistry, different modes of reforming, catalysts, catalyst deactivation, fuel desulfurization, reaction engineering, novel reforming concepts, thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer issues, system design, and recent research and development. While no attempt is made to describe the fuel cell itself, there is sufficient description of the fuel cell to show how it affects the fuel reformer. By focusing on the fundamentals, this book aims to be a source of information now and in the future. By avoiding time-sensitive information/analysis (e.g., economics) it serves as a single source of information for scientists and engineers in fuel processing technology. The material is presented in such a way that this book will serve as a reference for graduate level courses, fuel cell developers, and fuel cell researchers. - Chapters written by experts in each area - Extensive bibliography supporting each chapter - Detailed index - Up-to-date diagrams and full colour illustrations

Book Plasma Catalysis

Download or read book Plasma Catalysis written by Annemie Bogaerts and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-04-02 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plasma catalysis is gaining increasing interest for various gas conversion applications, such as CO2 conversion into value-added chemicals and fuels, N2 fixation for the synthesis of NH3 or NOx, methane conversion into higher hydrocarbons or oxygenates. It is also widely used for air pollution control (e.g., VOC remediation). Plasma catalysis allows thermodynamically difficult reactions to proceed at ambient pressure and temperature, due to activation of the gas molecules by energetic electrons created in the plasma. However, plasma is very reactive but not selective, and thus a catalyst is needed to improve the selectivity. In spite of the growing interest in plasma catalysis, the underlying mechanisms of the (possible) synergy between plasma and catalyst are not yet fully understood. Indeed, plasma catalysis is quite complicated, as the plasma will affect the catalyst and vice versa. Moreover, due to the reactive plasma environment, the most suitable catalysts will probably be different from thermal catalysts. More research is needed to better understand the plasma–catalyst interactions, in order to further improve the applications.

Book Fundamental Limitations of Non thermal Plasma Processing for Internal Combustion Engine NO subscript X Control

Download or read book Fundamental Limitations of Non thermal Plasma Processing for Internal Combustion Engine NO subscript X Control written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper discusses the physics and chemistry of non-thermal plasma processing for post-combustion NO(subscript x) control in internal combustion engines. A comparison of electron beam and electrical discharge processing is made regarding their power consumption, radical production, NO(subscript x) removal mechanisms, and by product formation. Can non-thermal deNO(subscript x) operate efficiently without additives or catalysts? How much electrical power does it cost to operate? What are the by-products of the process? This paper addresses these fundamental issues based on an analysis of the electron-molecule processes and chemical kinetics.

Book Plasma Processes for Renewable Energy Technologies

Download or read book Plasma Processes for Renewable Energy Technologies written by Masaaki Okubo and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-01-07 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of renewable energy is an effective solution for the prevention of global warming. On the other hand, environmental plasmas are one of powerful means to solve global environmental problems on nitrogen oxides, (NOx), sulfur oxides (SOx), particulate matter (PM), volatile organic compounds (VOC), and carbon dioxides (CO2) in the atmosphere. By combining both technologies, we can develop an extremely effective environmental improvement technology. Based on this background, a Special Issue of the journal Energies on plasma processes for renewable energy technologies is planned. On the issue, we focus on environment plasma technologies that can effectively utilize renewable electric energy sources, such as photovoltaic power generation, biofuel power generation, wind turbine power generation, etc. However, any latest research results on plasma environmental improvement processes are welcome for submission. We are looking, among others, for papers on the following technical subjects in which either plasma can use renewable energy sources or can be used for renewable energy technologies: · Plasma decomposition technology of harmful gases, such as the plasma denitrification method; · Plasma removal technology of harmful particles, such as electrostatic precipitation; · Plasma decomposition technology of harmful substances in liquid, such as gas–liquid interfacial plasma; · Plasma-enhanced flow induction and heat transfer enhancement technologies, such as ionic wind device and plasma actuator; · Plasma-enhanced combustion and fuel reforming; · Other environment plasma technologies.
