Book Integrated Life Cycle Risk Management for New Nuclear Power Plants

Download or read book Integrated Life Cycle Risk Management for New Nuclear Power Plants written by IAEA and published by International Atomic Energy Agency. This book was released on 2023-07-10 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integrated risk management (IRM) is particularly important during the preparation and construction phases of a nuclear power plant (NPP) and anticipates the risks that could arise during the operation and decommissioning phases. This publication is designed to enhance stakeholders' understanding of the fundamental processes, procedures, and methods for IRM. Practical guidelines are provided and best practices shared. The importance of having appropriate risk management policies, especially when considering the various contractual and organizational arrangements in different construction entities, operating organizations and Member States is emphasized. Tables are provided throughout the publication to indicate the causes of risks and their impacts on the applicable NPP or project. Economic evaluation techniques are also introduced. Member States contemplating expanding their existing nuclear power plant fleets can be expected to benefit from this publication, but it will likely be most valuable for Member States newly embarking upon a nuclear power programme.

Book Chemical Separation Technologies and Related Methods of Nuclear Waste Management

Download or read book Chemical Separation Technologies and Related Methods of Nuclear Waste Management written by Gregory R. Choppin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999-02-28 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Separation technologies are of crucial importance to the goal of significantly reducing the volume of high-level nuclear waste, thereby reducing the long-term health risks to mankind. International co-operation, including the sharing of concepts and methods, as well as technology transfer, is essential in accelerating research and development in the field. The writers of this book are all internationally recognised experts in the field of separation technology, well qualified to assess and criticize the current state of separation research as well as to identify future opportunities for the application of separation technologies to the solution of nuclear waste management problems. The major emphases in the book are research opportunities in the utilization of innovative and potentially more efficient and cost effective processes for waste processing/treatment, actinide speciation/separation methods, technological processing, and environmental restoration.

Book Information Technology for Nuclear Power Plant Configuration Management

Download or read book Information Technology for Nuclear Power Plant Configuration Management written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by Stationery Office/Tso. This book was released on 2010 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major concern with operating plants is their performance with respect to safety, reliability, and availability. Modernization of the information technology tools for configuration management (CM) in nuclear power plants has been one of the important key factors in increasing plant availability. This publication presents a basic approach for the application of information technology to CM, considering experience gained from organizations and utilities that have successfully implemented configuration management. It focuses on the attributes of CM related to information retention and retrieval, lays out what is required from a software programme to effectively support a strong CM programme, provides information related to information technology and organization, and outlines the design of a configuration management software system.

Book Modern Power Station Practice

Download or read book Modern Power Station Practice written by P.M. Reynolds and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains two additional features which enhance the value of Modern Power Station Practice as a whole: a cumulative subject index and a detailed list of tables of contents for the entire work. The cumulative index provides access to the vast body of information presented in the set, and also indicates at a glance the breadth and depth of the treatment through the use of inclusive page ranges for major topics. In order to allow the reader the greatest flexibility in using the index there are many cross-references. The entries themselves are qualified by up to two descriptive subheadings to allow the most detailed coverage possible of the subject matter. The reproduction of the tables of contents for each volume also provides an overview of the organisation of the individual volumes.

Book Use of Services for Family Planning and Infertility United States 1982

Download or read book Use of Services for Family Planning and Infertility United States 1982 written by Gerry E. Hendershot and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 982 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1982 statistics on the use of family planning and infertility services presented in this report are preliminary results from Cycle III of the National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG), conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics. Data were collected through personal interviews with a multistage area probability sample of 7969 women aged 15-44. A detailed series of questions was asked to obtain relatively complete estimates of the extent and type of family planning services received. Statistics on family planning services are limited to women who were able to conceive 3 years before the interview date. Overall, 79% of currently mrried nonsterile women reported using some type of family planning service during the previous 3 years. There were no statistically significant differences between white (79%), black (75%) or Hispanic (77%) wives, or between the 2 income groups. The 1982 survey questions were more comprehensive than those of earlier cycles of the survey. The annual rate of visits for family planning services in 1982 was 1077 visits /1000 women. Teenagers had the highest annual visit rate (1581/1000) of any age group for all sources of family planning services combined. Visit rates declined sharply with age from 1447 at ages 15-24 to 479 at ages 35-44. Similar declines with age also were found in the visit rates for white and black women separately. Nevertheless, the annual visit rate for black women (1334/1000) was significantly higher than that for white women (1033). The highest overall visit rate was for black women 15-19 years of age (1867/1000). Nearly 2/3 of all family planning visits were to private medical sources. Teenagers of all races had higher family planning service visit rates to clinics than to private medical sources, as did black women age 15-24. White women age 20 and older had higher visit rates to private medical services than to clinics. Never married women had higher visit rates to clinics than currently or formerly married women. Data were also collected in 1982 on use of medical services for infertility by women who had difficulty in conceiving or carrying a pregnancy to term. About 1 million ever married women had 1 or more infertility visits in the 12 months before the interview. During the 3 years before interview, about 1.9 million women had infertility visits. For all ever married women, as well as for white and black women separately, infertility services were more likely to be secured from private medical sources than from clinics. The survey design, reliability of the estimates and the terms used are explained in the technical notes.

Book Application of Configuration Management in Nuclear Power Plants

Download or read book Application of Configuration Management in Nuclear Power Plants written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication provides advice on the application of configuration management (CM) processes in nuclear power plants (NPPs). Taking into account that the concept of CM processes is implemented in different ways in the nuclear industry, it underlines the importance of a consistent approach to CM in operating NPPs, especially for those with long term operation. It also highlights safety aspects and provides further guidance and examples.

Book Configuration Management in Nuclear Power Plants

Download or read book Configuration Management in Nuclear Power Plants written by and published by . This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Currently, the nuclear industry and governmental organizations are showing an increasing interest in the implementation of Configuration Management (CM) processes as an effective way for limiting configuration errors and related risks. In this report the necessary attributes of a good operational CM are identified. It is recognized and emphasized that CM is one aspect of the overall mangement system. Nevertheless, this is an important part of managerial activity focused on the compliance of knowledge of the plant personnel, plant documentation and records with the state of the plant technology. The concepts developed in this report present a basic approach to CM, taking into consideration experience gained from organizations and utilities which have successfully implemented partial or full CM programmes and from discussions at meetings organized by the IAEA on the subject.
