Book Fundamental Aliphatic Chemistry

Download or read book Fundamental Aliphatic Chemistry written by P. W. G. Smith and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-04-24 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organic Chemistry for General Degree Students is written to meet the requirements of the London General Internal examination and degree examinations of a similar standing. It will also provide for the needs of students taking the Part 1 examination for Graduate Membership of the Royal Institute of Chemistry, or the Higher National Certificate, whilst the treatment is such that Ordinary National Certificate courses can be based on the first two volumes Within the limits broadly defined by the syllabus, the aim of this first volume is to provide a concise summary of the important general methods of preparation and properties of the main classes of aliphatic compounds. Due attention is paid to practical considerations with particular reference to important industrial processes. At the same time, the fundamental theoretical principles of organic chemistry are illustrated by the discussion of a selection of the more important reaction mechanisms. Questions and problems are included, designed to test the student's appreciation of the subject and his ability to apply the principles embodied therein. A selection of questions set in the relevant examinations is also included.

Book excerpt: Organic Chemistry for General Degree Students, Volume 2: Aromatic Chemistry presents the fundamental aspects of aromatic chemistry. This book explores the systematic study in the first instance of the chemistry of functional groups, based on their structural characteristics in aliphatic systems. Organized into 11 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the properties of the aromatic nucleus followed by a consideration of the manner in which interaction with the aromatic system may alter the reactivity of functional groups. Other chapters explain the two distinctly different classes of aromatic halogen compounds. This text discusses as well the properties of an aromatic amine, which is characterized by having at least one aromatic system attached to the nitrogen atom and may be further categorized as primary, secondary, or tertiary according to the degree of substitution of the nitrogen. The final chapter examines the classical structure for thiophen. This book is a valuable resource for organic chemists and students.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 80 years the Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued.

Book Basic Organic Chemistry

Download or read book Basic Organic Chemistry written by and published by Blue Rose Publishers. This book was released on 2022-12-29 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is organic chemistry? Organic chemistry is the study of the structure, properties, composition, reactions, and preparation of carbon-containing compounds. Most organic compounds contain carbon and hydrogen, but they may also include any number of other elements (e.g., nitrogen, oxygen, halogens, phosphorus, silicon, sulfur). Originally limited to the study of compounds produced by living organisms, organic chemistry has been broadened to include human-made substances (e.g., plastics). What do organic chemists do? Organic chemistry is a highly creative science that allows chemists to create and explore molecules and compounds. Organic chemists spend much of their time developing new compounds and finding better ways of synthesizing existing ones. Where is organic chemistry used? Organic compounds are all around us. Many modern materials are at least partially composed of organic compounds. They’re central to economic growth, and are foundational to the fields of biochemistry, biotechnology, and medicine. Examples of where you can find organic compounds include agrichemicals, coatings, cosmetics, detergent, dyestuff, food, fuel, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, plastics, and rubber. Which industries hire organic chemists? Biotechnology Virtually all biotechnology (“biotech”) products are the result of organic chemistry Common employment areas in biotechnology include: Health care Crop production and agriculture Nonfood uses of crops Consumer products .
