Download or read book Sins of gods of saints and of the gutter written by Peter Aringo-Bizimaana and published by Europa Edizioni. This book was released on 2024-05-21 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On the background of a country torn apart by corruption, carnage and power struggles, Father Austin returns to this homeland after a long stay abroad. He soon discovers that things are worse than before he left. A new order of Cribism, a religion-political set up of a trinity of rulers to safeguard the nation and their regime, is simply an evil ideology masked in superstition. It is during this time that the Austin-Anne love relationship comes to life harking back to an unintended child born of their earlier childish liaison. This story, on the ridge between personal and collective experience, shows also how sin can become a source of redemption and how suffering can be a means to lead us to joy. Peter Aringo was born in Uganda in 1947. He has taught both at Secondary and University levels. He has authored various publications ranging from literary to historical-political subjects. He contributed to compilation of The Integrated English Syllabus for Uganda Schools (Books 1-4) & a Teachers’ Guide. He has also worked as Chief Examiner for the National Examinations Board. His interest now is continued research into the use of Literature to approach Linguistics teaching in Language Teacher Education.

  • Pages : 309 pages

Download or read book The Age of Reformation written by Alec Ryrie and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-01-12 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Age of Reformation charts how religion, politics and social change were always intimately interlinked in the sixteenth century, from the murderous politics of the Tudor court to the building and fragmentation of new religious and social identities in the parishes. In this book, Alec Ryrie provides an authoritative overview of the religious and political reformations of the sixteenth century. This turbulent century saw Protestantism come to England, Scotland and even Ireland, while the Tudor and Stewart monarchs made their authority felt within and beyond their kingdoms more than any of their predecessors. This book demonstrates how this age of reformations produced not only a new religion, but a new politics – absolutist, yet pluralist, populist yet bound by law. This new edition has been fully revised and updated and includes expanded sections on Lollardy and anticlericalism, on Henry VIII’s early religious views, on several of the rebellions which convulsed Tudor England and on unofficial religion, ranging from Elizabethan Catholicism to incipient atheism. Drawing on the most recent research, Alec Ryrie explains why these events took the course they did – and why that course was so often an unexpected and unlikely one. It is essential reading for students of early modern British history and the history of the reformation.

Book Butterfly Moon

    Book Details:
  • Author : Anita Endrezze
  • Publisher : University of Arizona Press
  • Release : 2012-09-20
  • ISBN : 0816502250
  • Pages : 161 pages

Download or read book Butterfly Moon written by Anita Endrezze and published by University of Arizona Press. This book was released on 2012-09-20 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anita Endrezze has deep memories. Her father was a Yaqui Indian. Her mother traced her heritage to Slovenia, Germany, Romania, and Italy. And her stories seem to bubble up from this ancestral cauldron. Butterfly Moon is a collection of short stories based on folk tales from around the world. But its stories are set in the contemporary, everyday world. Or are they? Endrezze tells these stories in a distinctive and poetic voice. Fantasy often intrudes into reality. Alternate “realities” and shifting perspectives lead us to question our own perceptions. Endrezze is especially interested in how humans hide feelings or repress thoughts by developing shadow selves. In “Raven’s Moon,” she introduces the shadow concept with a Black Moon, the “unseen reflection of the known.” (Of course the story is about a witch couple who seem very much in love.) The title character in “The Wife Who Lived on Wind” is an ogress who lives in a world somewhat similar to our own, but only somewhat. “The Vampire and the Moth Woman” reveals shape-shifters living among us. Not surprisingly, Trickster appears in these tales. As in Native American stories, Trickster might be a fox or a coyote or a raven or a human—or something in between. “White Butterflies” and “Where the Bones Are” both deal with devastating diseases that swept through Yaqui country in the 1530s. Underneath their surfaces are old Yaqui folktales that feature the greatest Trickster of all: Death (and his little brother Fate). Enjoyably disturbing, these stories linger—deep in our memory.

  • Publisher : University Press of Kentucky
  • Release : 2021-12-14
  • ISBN : 0813188741
  • Pages : 329 pages

Download or read book All According to God s Plan written by Alan Scot Willis and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on 2021-12-14 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Southern Baptists had long considered themselves a missionary people, but when, after World War II, they embarked on a dramatic expansion of missionary efforts, they confronted headlong the problem of racism. Believing that racism hindered their evangelical efforts, the Convention's full-time missionaries and mission board leaders attacked racism as unchristian, thus finding themselves at odds with the pervasive racist and segregationist ideologies that dominated the South. This progressive view of race stressed the biblical unity of humanity, encompassing all races and transcending specific ethnic divisions. In All According to God's Plan, Alan Scot Willis explores these beliefs and the chasm they created within the Convention. He shows how, in the post-World War II era, the most respected members of the Southern Baptists Convention publicly challenged the most dearly held ideologies of the white South.

Book Wounded Minister

Book excerpt: Wounded Minister: Reflections of a Former Pastor is the story of power, politics, and the pains of pastoring the local church. From ashes to gold, a church is brought out from the wilderness of spiritual darkness to the promise land of knowledge and wisdom only to reject and despise God at the expense of hurt, hatred, and raising hell with the pastor, parishioners, and the powers that be. Dr. Eric O. Rogers, Pastor-Teacher and University Professor, explores and examines the causes and chaos of disobedience in the face of God's love, mercy, and grace. Healing is progressive and Rogers begins the journey of a thousand miles through headache, heartache, hell, and high water to joy unspeakable and peace that surpasses all understanding. Despite the foolishness and folly of church members, Rogers emerges to proclaim forgiveness and healing through God's word.
