Book Group Psychology and the Analysis of the Ego

Download or read book Group Psychology and the Analysis of the Ego written by Sigmund Freud and published by Library of Alexandria. This book was released on 2020-09-28 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contrast between Individual Psychology and Social or Group Psychology, which at a first glance may seem to be full of significance, loses a great deal of its sharpness when it is examined more closely. It is true that Individual Psychology is concerned with the individual man and explores the paths by which he seeks to find satisfaction for his instincts; but only rarely and under certain exceptional conditions is Individual Psychology in a position to disregard the relations of this individual to others. In the individual's mental life someone else is invariably involved, as a model, as an object, as a helper, as an opponent, and so from the very first Individual Psychology is at the same time Social Psychology as wellÑin this extended but entirely justifiable sense of the words. The relations of an individual to his parents and to his brothers and sisters, to the object of his love, and to his physicianÑin fact all the relations which have hitherto been the chief subject of psycho-analytic researchÑmay claim to be considered as social phenomena; and in this respect they may be contrasted with certain other processes, described by us as 'narcissistic', in which the satisfaction of the instincts is partially or totally withdrawn from the influence of other people. The contrast between social and narcissisticÑBleuler would perhaps call them 'autistic'Ñmental acts therefore falls wholly within the domain of Individual Psychology, and is not well calculated to differentiate it from a Social or Group Psychology.

Book The Psychoanalysis of Organizations

Download or read book The Psychoanalysis of Organizations written by Robert De Board and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-06-20 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most pressing needs of modern society is to understand and construct organizations that are not only effective in terms of carrying out work but that also allow and encourage people to develop their full human potential. Psychoanalytic theory describes those primary processes that lie at the heart of human activity and provides new insights for understanding group and organizational behaviour. With a new introduction written by Vega Roberts, this Classic Edition of The Psychoanalysis of Organizations presents the theories of Sigmund Freud, Melanie Klein, Wilfred Bion, Elizabeth Lewin and Eric Menzies in plain language and shows their relevance to normal working life. First published in 1978, Robert De Board takes a wide-ranging overview of the major psychoanalytic theorists and organizational researchers, and analyses how the two groups can work together. Written in a very accessible style, it makes sophisticated psychoanalytic and management concepts comprehensible and usable for anyone.

Book On Freud s Group Psychology and the Analysis of the Ego

Download or read book On Freud s Group Psychology and the Analysis of the Ego written by Ethel Spector Person and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-06-04 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sixth volume in the series "Contemporary Freud: Turning Points and Critical Issues," published with the International Psychoanalytic Association, turns to Group Psychology and the Analysis of the Ego (1921). In this classic text Freud offered an analysis of the roots of group identity, of the contagions of panic and fanaticism, and of the submission of the individual to the leader that only gained cogency with each passing decade of the troubled twentieth century. And Freud's insights have become more relevant still in the aftermath of the shattering events of September 11, 2001. Following an introduction to the volume by Ethel Spector Person and a summary and abridgement of Freud's text by John Kerr, the contributors to this volume - Didier Anzieu, Robert Caper, Abraham Zeleznik, Andre Haynal, Ernst Falzeder, Yolanda Gampel, and Claudio Laks Eisirik - provide commentaries on Freud's work, explicating the multiple ways in which Freud's insights continue to illuminate the irrational dynamics to which all groups, including psychoanalytic institutions, are prey. Serving as both an introduction to, and an elegant expansion of, Freud's texts, this volume demonstrates the role of psychoanalytic hypotheses in obtaining deeper insight into the tectonic shifts in group psychology underlying today's mass society.

Book Psychoanalysis Group Analysis and Beyond

Download or read book Psychoanalysis Group Analysis and Beyond written by Juan Tubert-Oklander and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-11 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psychoanalysis, Group Analysis, and Beyond presents an important new paradigm in psychoanalysis and group analysis, presenting the individual and the group as elements of a wider whole and taking socio-political and cultural contexts into account. Juan Tubert-Oklander and Reyna Hernández-Tubert explore the contributions of group analysis to this new perspective, which suggests a holistic conception of the respective status and nature of what the common-sense view of the world conceives as the individual and the community. Part I presents thoughts on the ‘gelding’ of psychoanalysis, focuses on the limitations of classical psychoanalysis, and elaborates on key topics including epistemology, inclusion and exclusion, culture, and the real. Part II considers the reincorporation of what had formerly been excluded, through the theory and practice of group analysis. Finally, Part III bridges the gap, presenting several approaches to the building of the new paradigm that is so sorely needed. Psychoanalysis, Group Analysis, and Beyond will be of great interest to group analysts, psychoanalysts, and psychotherapists in practice and in training, as well as other professionals specializing in group work.

Book Group Psychology and the Analysis of the Ego

Download or read book Group Psychology and the Analysis of the Ego written by Sigmund Freud and published by DigiCat. This book was released on 2022-11-13 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this seminal work, Freud describes psychological mechanisms at work within mass movements. A mass, according to Freud, is a "temporary entity, consisting of heterogeneous elements that have joined together for a moment." Like Gustav Le Bon, Freud says that as part of the mass, the individual acquires a sense of infinite power which allows him to act on impulses that he would otherwise have to curb as an isolated individual. Sigmund Freud was an Austrian neurologist and the founder of psychoanalysis, a clinical method for treating psychopathology through dialogue between a patient and a psychoanalyst.

Book Moments of Meeting in Psychoanalysis

Download or read book Moments of Meeting in Psychoanalysis written by Susan Lord and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-08-09 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are moments of connection between analysts and patients during any therapeutic encounter upon which the therapy can turn. Moments of Meeting in Psychoanalysis explores how analysts and therapists can experience these moments of meeting, shows how this interaction can become an enlivening and creative process, and seeks to recognise how it can change both the analyst and patient in profound and fundamental ways. The theory and practice of contemporary psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy has reached an exciting new moment of generous and generative interaction. As psychoanalysts become more intersubjective and relational in their work, it becomes increasingly critical that they develop approaches that have the capacity to harness and understand powerful moments of meeting, capable of propelling change through the therapeutic relationship. Often these are surprising human moments in which both client and clinician are moved and transformed. Moments of Meeting in Psychoanalysis offers a window into the ways in which some of today’s practitioners think about, encourage, and work with these moments of meeting in their practices. Each chapter of the book offers theoretical material, case examples, and a discussion of various therapists’ reflections on and experiences with these moments of meeting. With contributions from relational psychoanalysts, psychotherapists and Jungian analysts, and covering essential topics such as shame, impasse, mindfulness, and group work, this book offers new theoretical thinking and practical clinical guidance on how best to work with moments of meeting in any relationally oriented therapeutic practice. Moments of Meeting in Psychoanalysis will be of great interest to psychoanalysts, psychoanalytic psychotherapists, psychologists, social workers, workers in other mental health fields, graduate students, and anyone interested in change processes.

Book Group Psychology and The Analysis of The Ego

Download or read book Group Psychology and The Analysis of The Ego written by Sigmund Freud and published by Prabhat Prakashan. This book was released on 2023-10-01 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Group Psychology and The Analysis of The Ego by Sigmund Freud: Group Psychology and The Analysis of The Ego delves into the fascinating dynamics of group behavior and the role of the individual's ego within the collective psyche. Sigmund Freud, a renowned psychoanalyst, explores the complexities of human social interactions, shedding light on the unconscious motivations, instincts, and psychological processes that shape group dynamics. Key aspects of Group Psychology and The Analysis of The Ego: Group Formation and Behavior: Freud delves into the formation of groups, the emergence of collective identities, and the mechanisms that influence group behavior. He examines the interplay between individual desires and the group's influence, shedding light on the psychological processes underlying conformity, leadership, and power dynamics within social groups. The Ego's Role: Freud explores the ego's function in the context of group psychology. He analyzes how the individual's ego is influenced, shaped, and sometimes even overshadowed by the collective ego, leading to the formation of group norms, ideologies, and shared beliefs. The book offers insights into the tensions between individual desires and the pressures to conform within a group setting. Unconscious Dynamics: Freud brings his psychoanalytic perspective to the study of group psychology, delving into the unconscious dynamics that impact group behavior. He explores concepts such as identification, projection, and the manifestation of repressed desires within the collective psyche, providing a deeper understanding of the underlying psychological processes at play in group dynamics. Sigmund Freud: Sigmund Freud, an Austrian neurologist and the founder of psychoanalysis, revolutionized the field of psychology. Born in 1856, Freud's theories on the unconscious mind, dreams, and the role of sexuality in human behavior challenged conventional beliefs and reshaped the understanding of human psychology. His influential works, including The Interpretation of Dreams and The Ego and the Id, explored the complexities of the human psyche and the impact of early experiences on adult behavior. Freud's psychoanalytic framework and his emphasis on the significance of the unconscious mind have had a profound and lasting influence on psychology and continue to provoke intellectual discourse and inquiry.
