Download or read book Read My Lips written by Sally Kellerman and published by Hachette Books. This book was released on 2013-04-30 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sally Kellerman's portrayal of Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan in Robert Altman's M*A*S*H remains a landmark performance. Throughout her long career Kellerman has been a real dame -- honest, down-to-earth, sultry, funny, and unfiltered. In Read My Lips, Kellerman shares colorful tales of her years as an up-and-coming actress in the early 60s, when Hollywood was a small neighborhood full of chance encounters. To pay for acting classes (ten dollars each, alongside the likes of Jack Nicholson) she waited tables at a coffee house on the Sunset Strip that was a hangout for Marlon Brando, Steve McQueen, and Warren Beatty. While she watered her lawn one morning in her bathrobe, Ringo Starr stopped in his convertible to say he'd just moved into the neighborhood and she should drop by; during the Vietnam War, she dated Henry Kissinger. Over the years, there were drugs, affairs, diets, and therapy, a music album, a marriage, and motherhood. As the innocence of the 1950s collided with the free spirit of the 1960s, everything felt new and exciting, and Sally Kellerman was right in the middle of it. In Read My Lips Sally transports us back to that unique era and shares the challenges and rewards of her marriage, children, and her iconic career.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An astounding new work by the author of The Mind Tree that offers a rare insight into the autistic mind and how it thinks, sees, and reacts to the world. When he was three years old, Tito was diagnosed as severely autistic, but his remarkable mother, Soma, determined that he would overcome the “problem” by teaching him to read and write. The result was that between the ages of eight and eleven he wrote stories and poems of exquisite beauty, which Dr. Oliver Sacks called “amazing and shocking.” Their eloquence gave lie to all our assumptions about autism. Here Tito goes even further and writes of how the autistic mind works, how it views the outside world and the “normal” people he deals with daily, how he tells his stories to the mirror and hears stories back, how sounds become colors, how beauty fills his mind and heart. With this work, Tito—whom Portia Iversen, co-founder of Cure Autism Now, has described as “a window into autism such as the world has never seen”—gives the world a beacon of hope. For if he can do it, why can’t others? “Brave, bold, and deeply felt, this book shows that much we might have believed about autism can be wrong.”—Boston Globe

Download or read book From His Lips What Jesus Said written by John Fox and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-05-17 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Let him without sin cast the first stone.' 'Man shall not live by bread alone.' 'For the measure you give shall be the measure you get.' You may have heard these phrases before. Maybe even quoted (or perhaps mis-quoted) a saying or two yourself. And if you thought about it at all, wondered if it was Shakespeare? Maybe Plato, or Socrates perhaps? No, they are from a Middle Eastern man, unknown even in His own country, from a poor family, who learnt carpentry from His father. Suddenly at thirty he took a mid-life career change and became an itinerent prophet and teacher. He had no earthly influence - the religous establishment found him a puzzle and a threat to their power. Despite all this; the three and a half years of His public life had such an impact that for two thousand years after his death, history was broken into two: BC, before he came along, and AD, after his birth. Just what did He actually say?... Jesus' philosophical sayings are right here, see for yourself.

Book excerpt: In this new play by Australian playwright Valentino Musico, the author tries to come to terms with the murder of his great - grandfather Bruno Aloi, born in the Calabrian village of Pietracupa in 1883 and now long dead. Based on a 500 page document obtained from the Italian State Archives' Reggio di Calabria office Valentino Musico started to find the truth about his great - grandfather's murder. "In 2014 I finally read the handwritten Italian archive documents. I then began to believe from all this reading and gleaning and weighing that Bruno was a good man, his story was important, and his story merited more than being mingled and flung forsaken with his bones into the ossuary." The result of Valentino Musico's findings is his compelling new play "A Flower of the Lips".
Download or read book Read My Lips written by Vanessa S. Williamson and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2019-03-05 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A surprising and revealing look at what Americans really believe about taxes Conventional wisdom holds that Americans hate taxes. But the conventional wisdom is wrong. Bringing together national survey data with in-depth interviews, Read My Lips presents a surprising picture of tax attitudes in the United States. Vanessa Williamson demonstrates that Americans view taxpaying as a civic responsibility and a moral obligation. But they worry that others are shirking their duties, in part because the experience of taxpaying misleads Americans about who pays taxes and how much. Perceived "loopholes" convince many income tax filers that a flat tax might actually raise taxes on the rich, and the relative invisibility of the sales and payroll taxes encourages many to underestimate the sizable tax contributions made by poor and working people. Americans see being a taxpayer as a role worthy of pride and respect, a sign that one is a contributing member of the community and the nation. For this reason, the belief that many Americans are not paying their share is deeply corrosive to the social fabric. The widespread misperception that immigrants, the poor, and working-class families pay little or no taxes substantially reduces public support for progressive spending programs and undercuts the political standing of low-income people. At the same time, the belief that the wealthy pay less than their share diminishes confidence that the political process represents most people. Upending the idea of Americans as knee-jerk opponents of taxes, Read My Lips examines American taxpaying as an act of political faith. Ironically, the depth of the American civic commitment to taxpaying makes the failures of the tax system, perceived and real, especially potent frustrations.
Download or read book From His Lips About His Co workers written by Zacharias Tanee Fomum and published by ZTF Books Online. This book was released on with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brother Zach defined his role in the work of God and functioned essentially as a team leader. He understood the work of God and leadership in terms of receiving from God His will and methods for His work, but he also looked to God to receive the men and women who were God's workers in the work. These became his co-workers. He was their team leader. Some of the co-workers and co-leaders in his team served for short periods, and some served with him a lifelong commitment. From his lips, we can enter into the spiritual environment, and into the lives of the men and women who served the Lord with him. For the purposes of testimony, many statements for correction, rebuke, and re-alignment have been deliberately omitted because the public nature of the book is inappropriate for such a ministry of perfection and intimacy. We have shared what came from his lips to motivate his co-workers, and that reflects his absolute faith not only in God but in those that had teamed up with him. He saw the good and he built on the good, and around such a leader, many unusual men and women emerged as is evident in these anecdotes. May the Lord build you as you read, and may the Lord build you as you share in an unusual leader building men and women for God's work.
Download or read book What Lips My Lips Have Kissed written by Daniel Mark Epstein and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2014-04-08 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A noted biographer and poet illuminates the unique woman who wrote the greatest American love poetry of the twentieth century What Lips My Lips Have Kissed is the story of a rare sort of American genius, who grew up in grinding poverty in Camden, Maine. Nothing could save the sensitive child but her talent for words, music and drama, and an inexorable desire to be loved. When she was twenty, her poetry would make her famous; at thirty she would be loved by readers the world over. Edna St. Vincent Millay was widely considered to be the most seductive woman of her age. Few men could resist her, and many women also fell under her spell. From the publication of her first poems until the scandal over Fatal Interview twenty years later, gossip about the poet's liberated lifestyle prompted speculation about who might be the real subject of her verses. Using letters, diaries and journals of the poet and her lovers that have only recently become available, Daniel Mark Epstein tells the astonishing story of the life, dedicated to art and love, that inspired the sublime lyrics of Edna St. Vincent Millay.

Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A spellbinding and shocking look at Belinda Carlisle’s role in forming the Go-Go’s and her rise, fall, and eventual rebirth as a wife, mother, and sober artist “An unflinching look back . . . with heartbreaking honesty and a wry sense of humor.”—USA Today The women of the iconic eighties band the Go-Go’s will always be remembered as they appeared on the back of their debut record: sunny, smiling, each soaking in her own private bubble bath with chocolates and champagne. The photo is a perfect tribute to the fun, irreverent brand of pop music that the Go-Go’s created, but it also conceals the trials and secret demons that the members of the group—in particular, its lead singer, Belinda Carlisle—struggled with on their rise to stardom. Lips Unsealed is Belinda’s story in her own words—from her crazy days on tour with the Go-Go’s to her private problems with abusive relationships, self-esteem, and a thirty-year battle with addiction. Ultimately, it is a love letter to music, the lifelong friendships between the members of the Go-Go’s, the beloved husband and son who led Belinda to sobriety, and a life which, though deeply flawed, was—and is still—fully lived.
Download or read book From His Lips About Our Ministry written by Zacharias Tanee Fomum and published by ZTF Books Online. This book was released on with total page 717 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are the general purposes of God and the distinct purposes of God that He entrusts to specific individuals, groups of individuals, communities, and even to a Spiritual Movement. Both kinds of callings are documented in the Scriptures and all serve the economy of God’s purposes. To Zach Fomum and those that God called along with him, a distinct economy of the Gospel was entrusted that translated into a clear goal. The pursuance of that goal through obedience to God’s specific instructions has gradually clarified the will of God and the means of accomplishing His purposes. God’s will, God’s ways, our responsibility, who we must be, what we must do to please God, and accomplish our goal, are presented here as constituting our ministry. This is written for all who are part of our ministry, and for all who will be part of this ministry, so that we may serve in the same spirit for the same purpose and, by accomplishing the goal, bring glory to our Lord Jesus. God bless you.
Download or read book Keep It Shut written by Karen Ehman and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2015-01-06 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kind, encouraging, and humorous, Karen Ehman helps us learn the essential practice of using our words more effectively--alleviating heartache and regret, reducing relational tension and conflict, lessening our stress levels, and growing our relationship with God. From Bible times to modern times women have struggled with their words. What to say and how to say it. What not to say. When it is best to remain silent. And what to do when you've said something you wish you could now take back. In this book a woman whose mouth has gotten her into loads of trouble shares the hows (and how-not-tos) of dealing with the tongue. Beyond just a "how not to gossip" book, this book explores what the Bible says about the many ways we are to use our words and the times when we are to remain silent. Karen will cover using our speech to interact with friends, co-workers, family, and strangers as well as in the many places we use our words in private, in public, online, and in prayer. Even the words we say silently to ourselves. She will address unsolicited opinion-slinging, speaking the truth in love, not saying words just to people-please, and dealing with our verbal anger. Christian women struggle with their mouths. Even though we know that Scripture has much to say about how we are--and are not--to use our words, this is still an immense issue, causing heartache and strain not only in family relationships, but also in friendships, work, and church settings. Also available: Keep It Shut small group video study and study guide.
