Book excerpt: We live in perilous times where Christians have abandoned the simple Jesus of the bible and have gone whoring after the American capitalist designer Jesus, who had a big house and who was oozing with material prosperity. This Jesus from the pit of hell wants Christians to look at them selves not as pilgrims and sojourners in this world, but as permanent residents of this fallen world. Many 'born again' Christians are now spending most of their time preparing for the life in this world. Many are ready to kill, rob, and extort in order to acquire material prosperity. Be warned that this designer Jesus has nothing to do with the bible, he is simply a concoction by man .This book is going to take you on a long journey through some of the teachings of prominent church ministers who look like sheep but speak the language of the Dragon. These ministers preach that it is a sin to be poor, they also say that Jesus was born again and paid for our sins in hell among other heresies. After reading this book you must decide, whether to follow and trust the Jesus of the bible alone or to go whoring after deceptive and lying spirits.

Book From Greed to Grace

Download or read book From Greed to Grace written by David McCracken and published by Strategic Book Publishing. This book was released on 2011-04 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Greed to Grace is the story of one man's struggle to find his path through life from a meager beginning to what many Christians would call a successful conclusion. Author David McCracken's unhappy childhood took place in the 1940s on a small 200-acre farm in Lyon County, Kansas, without running water or electricity. Attending Sunday school at the age of nine for a couple months was the only framework upon which he could build a Christian life. Yet as a teen, he cried out for God's help. The author had no knowledge of the Holy Spirit at that time, but sensed that God heard his prayer and a peace came over the author. The heart of this memoir is devoted to the transformation the author went through that includes his years of struggle to overcome greed and allow God to guide his steps; how he became a successful self-taught day trader in the stock market; and how he won a 39-year-old claim with the VA. Along the way, McCracken served in the United States Air Force, taught speech and debate, was an award-winning debate coach, learned the stock market and became a religious man. This stunning book about overcoming adversity will open windows when others have tried to close doors. JDavid McCracken is now retired and living in Arizona. Book Christianity and the New Spirit of Capitalism

Download or read book Christianity and the New Spirit of Capitalism written by Kathryn Tanner and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2019-01-01 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the world's most celebrated theologians argues for a Protestant anti-work ethic In his classic The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism, Max Weber famously showed how Christian beliefs and practices could shape persons in line with capitalism. In this significant reimagining of Weber's work, Kathryn Tanner provocatively reverses this thesis, arguing that Christianity can offer a direct challenge to the largely uncontested growth of capitalism. Exploring the cultural forms typical of the current finance-dominated system of capitalism, Tanner shows how they can be countered by Christian beliefs and practices with a comparable person-shaping capacity. Addressing head-on the issues of economic inequality, structural under- and unemployment, and capitalism's unstable boom/bust cycles, she draws deeply on the theological resources within Christianity to imagine anew a world of human flourishing. This book promises to be one of the most important theological books in recent years.

Book Greed in the Church

    Book Details:
  • Author : Burmin Hill
  • Publisher : Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.
  • Release : 2020-05-20
  • ISBN : 1098021193
  • Pages : 70 pages

Download or read book Greed in the Church written by Burmin Hill and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-05-20 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The attention of many in the church has been misdirected away from the love of God to the love of money, wealth, and possessions. Yes! God does bless his people, but false prophets, false doctrines, the spirit of deception, and greed in the heart is causing many individuals to forget the purpose of God's call. He first called us to his Son, Jesus, then to salvation, love, mercy, forgiveness, humility, and in this process, he will provide for us so that we do not have to sell our souls to survive or have what we need. Sometimes, we look more at what we want than what we really need; we need him""the Lord! Everything else comes with having him first. What message are churches giving to the younger generations? The children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of some of God's people are learning one lesson""one bad lesson""that God is a bank where they can go only to make withdrawals and never make a deposit; a deposit of their lives to him. For when their needs are met, they do not return to the house of God again until there's another need. The churches must change from sending this kind of message, especially to the younger generations. Greed and the love of money can lead us down the wrong path and blind us. In Jesus's temptation in the wilderness, Satan offered him all the kingdoms and riches of the world. Jesus rejected and refused all of it because he loved the Father more, and he did not want anything from Satan. Would you want a friend, husband, wife, etc. to love you because of what they can get from you? I would hope that the church, all the body of Christ, would more and more see God as the loving Father that he is, forgiving, merciful, long-suffering, and always waiting for us to come and not look at him as someone we go to only when we need something; the Lord God and his Son, Jesus, are to be loved, worshipped, praised, and adored. To all the sheep, apostles, prophets, pastors, evangelists, teachers, and all the body of the Lord Jesus who have lost sight of who the Lord is and have lost sight of the purpose of his call, let the Word of God restore the vision of himself to you again.

In this his final book, Brennan roves back his past, honoring the lives of the people closest to him, family and friends who’ve known the saint and the sinner, the boy and the man. Book Fragments of Grace

Download or read book Fragments of Grace written by Pamela Constable and published by Potomac Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2004 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For four and a half years, Pamela Constable, a veteran foreign correspondent and award-winning author, has traveled through South Asia on assignment for the Washington Post. Following religious conflicts, political crises, and natural disasters, she also searched for signs of humanity and dignity in societies rife with violence, poverty, prejudice, and greed. In Afghanistan, she made numerous visits while the country suffered under the hostile rule of the Taliban, attempted to reach the capital in a convoy that was ambushed and saw four journalists killed. She finally moved to Kabul in late 2001 to chronicle the country's post-Taliban rebirth. In Pakistan, she covered a military coup in 1999, immersed herself in the mys-terious world of Muslim mosques and academies, and discovered both the extremist and tolerant faces of Islam. In India, she attended one of the largest spiritual gatherings of Hindu pilgrims in history and then rushed to the horrific aftermath of a devastating earthquake. She repeatedly visited the Kashmir Valley, where Pakistani-backed Muslim guerrillas are waging a seemingly endless war with Indian security forces. In Nepal, she covered the crown prince's massacre of the royal family and journeyed to remote villages where communist rebels brought rigid moral order to life. In Sri Lanka, she explored a tropical paradise where reclusive insurgents trained children to become suicide bombers in pursuit of a utopian ethnic homeland. Between extended sojourns in South Asia, Constable returned to the West to reflect on the risks and rewards of her profession, revisit her roots, and compare her experiences with Islam, Hinduism, and Christianity. Her book is a uniquely personal exploration of the rich but solitary life of a foreign correspondent, set against a regional backdrop of extraordinary political and religious tumult.

Book excerpt: What if it is death that teaches us how to truly live? Keeping the end in mind shapes how we live our lives in the here and now. Living life backward means taking the one thing in our future that is certain—death—and letting that inform our journey before we get there. Looking to the book of Ecclesiastes for wisdom, Living Life Backward was written to shake up our expectations and priorities for what it means to live "the good life." Considering the reality of death helps us pay attention to our limitations as human beings and receive life as a wondrous gift from God—freeing us to live wisely, generously, and faithfully for God's glory and the good of his world.
