Book From Basic Survival Analytic Theory to a Non Standard Application

Download or read book From Basic Survival Analytic Theory to a Non Standard Application written by Georg Zimmermann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-01 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Georg Zimmermann provides a mathematically rigorous treatment of basic survival analytic methods. His emphasis is also placed on various questions and problems, especially with regard to life expectancy calculations arising from a particular real-life dataset on patients with epilepsy. The author shows both the step-by-step analyses of that dataset and the theory the analyses are based on. He demonstrates that one may face serious and sometimes unexpected problems, even when conducting very basic analyses. Moreover, the reader learns that a practically relevant research question may look rather simple at first sight. Nevertheless, compared to standard textbooks, a more detailed account of the theory underlying life expectancy calculations is needed in order to provide a mathematically rigorous framework.

Book Nonstandard Analysis Axiomatically

Download or read book Nonstandard Analysis Axiomatically written by Vladimir Kanovei and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the aftermath of the discoveries in foundations of mathematiC's there was surprisingly little effect on mathematics as a whole. If one looks at stan dard textbooks in different mathematical disciplines, especially those closer to what is referred to as applied mathematics, there is little trace of those developments outside of mathematical logic and model theory. But it seems fair to say that there is a widespread conviction that the principles embodied in the Zermelo - Fraenkel theory with Choice (ZFC) are a correct description of the set theoretic underpinnings of mathematics. In most textbooks of the kind referred to above, there is, of course, no discussion of these matters, and set theory is assumed informally, although more advanced principles like Choice or sometimes Replacement are often mentioned explicitly. This implicitly fixes a point of view of the mathemat ical universe which is at odds with the results in foundations. For example most mathematicians still take it for granted that the real number system is uniquely determined up to isomorphism, which is a correct point of view as long as one does not accept to look at "unnatural" interpretations of the membership relation.

Book Advances in Analysis Probability and Mathematical Physics

Download or read book Advances in Analysis Probability and Mathematical Physics written by Sergio Albeverio and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1961 Robinson introduced an entirely new version of the theory of infinitesimals, which he called `Nonstandard analysis'. `Nonstandard' here refers to the nature of new fields of numbers as defined by nonstandard models of the first-order theory of the reals. This system of numbers was closely related to the ring of Schmieden and Laugwitz, developed independently a few years earlier. During the last thirty years the use of nonstandard models in mathematics has taken its rightful place among the various methods employed by mathematicians. The contributions in this volume have been selected to present a panoramic view of the various directions in which nonstandard analysis is advancing, thus serving as a source of inspiration for future research. Papers have been grouped in sections dealing with analysis, topology and topological groups; probability theory; and mathematical physics. This volume can be used as a complementary text to courses in nonstandard analysis, and will be of interest to graduate students and researchers in both pure and applied mathematics and physics.

Book Multidimensional Statistical Analysis and Theory of Random Matrices

Download or read book Multidimensional Statistical Analysis and Theory of Random Matrices written by A. K. Gupta and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2019-01-14 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the papers from the Sixth Eugene Lukacs Symposium on ''Multidimensional Statistical Analysis and Random Matrices'', which was held at the Bowling Green State University, Ohio, USA, 29--30 March 1996. Multidimensional statistical analysis and random matrices have been the topics of great research. The papers presented in this volume discuss many varied aspects of this all-encompassing topic. In particular, topics covered include generalized statistical analysis, elliptically contoured distribution, covariance structure analysis, metric scaling, detection of outliers, density approximation, and circulant and band random matrices.

Book Life Span Development and Behavior

Download or read book Life Span Development and Behavior written by Paul B. Baltes and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2014-02-04 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This serial publication continues to review life-span research and theory in the behavioral and social sciences, particularly work done by psychologists and sociologists conducting programmatic research on current problems and refining theoretical positions. Each volume introduces excellent peer-reviewed empirical research into the field of life-span development while presenting interdisciplinary viewpoints on the topic. Often challenging accepted theories, this series is of great interest to developmental, personality, and social psychologists.

Book The Econometric Analysis of Transition Data

Download or read book The Econometric Analysis of Transition Data written by Tony Lancaster and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1990 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents statistical methods for analysis of the duration of events. The primary focus is on models for single-spell data, events in which individual agents are observed for a single duration. Some attention is also given to multiple-spell data. The first part of the book covers model specification, including both structural and reduced form models and models with and without neglected heterogeneity. The book next deals with likelihood based inference about such models, with sections on full and semiparametric specification. A final section treats graphical and numerical methods of specification testing. This is the first published exposition of current econometric methods for the study of duration data.
