Book Fundamentals of Friction

    Book Details:
  • Author : I.L. Singer
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 9401128111

Download or read book Fundamentals of Friction written by I.L. Singer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 638 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Friction, unlike many books on tribology, is devoted to one specific topic: friction. After introductory chapters on scientific and engineering perspectives, the next section contains the necessary background within the areas of contact mechanics, surfaces and adhesion. Then on to fracture, deformation and interface shear, from the macroscopic behavior of materials in frictional contact to microscopic models of uniform and granular interfaces. Lubrication by solids, liquids and gases is presented next, from classical flow properties to the reorganization of monolayers of molecules under normal and shear stresses. A section on new approaches at the nano- and atomic scales covers the physics and chemistry of interfaces, an array of visually exciting simulations, using molecular dynamics, of solids and liquids in sliding contact, and related AFM/STM studies. Following a section on machines and measurements, the final chapter discusses future issues in friction.

  • Author : Dieter Besdo
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2010-03-18
  • ISBN : 3642106579

Download or read book Elastomere Friction written by Dieter Besdo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-03-18 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding elastomer friction is essential for the development of tyres, but also for sealings and other components. Thus it is of great technical importance. There are many aspects to modelling frictional processes in which an elastomer is interacting with a rough surface, ranging from theoretical formulations, leading to reduced and complex models, via numerical simulation techniques to experimental investigations and validations.

Book Control of Machines with Friction

Download or read book Control of Machines with Friction written by Brian Armstrong-Hélouvry and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is my ambition in writing this book to bring tribology to the study of control of machines with friction. Tribology, from the greek for study of rubbing, is the discipline that concerns itself with friction, wear and lubrication. Tribology spans a great range of disciplines, from surface physics to lubrication chemistry and engineering, and comprises investigators in diverse specialities. The English language tribology literature now grows at a rate of some 700 articles per year. But for all of this activity, in the three years that I have been concerned with the control of machines with friction, I have but once met a fellow controls engineer who was aware that the field existed, this including many who were concerned with friction. In this vein I must confess that, before undertaking these investigations, I too was unaware that an active discipline of friction existed. The experience stands out as a mark of the specialization of our time. Within tribology, experimental and theoretical understanding of friction in lubricated machines is well developed. The controls engineer's interest is in dynamics, which is not the central interest of the tribologist. The tribologist is more often concerned with wear, with respect to which there has been enormous progress - witness the many mechanisms which we buy today that are lubricated once only, and that at the factory. Though a secondary interest, frictional dynamics are note forgotten by tribology.

Book Friction and Wear From Elementary Mechanisms to Macroscopic Behavior

Download or read book Friction and Wear From Elementary Mechanisms to Macroscopic Behavior written by Valentin L. Popov and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2019-08-21 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Friction and the interaction of surfaces can usually be felt at the scale of the contacting bodies. Indeed, phenomena such as the frictional resistance or the occurrence of wear can be observable with plain eye, but to characterize them and in order to make a prediction, a more detailed understanding at smaller scales is often required. These can include individual roughness peaks or single molecule interactions. In this Research Topic, we have gathered a collection of articles representing the state of the art in tribology’s endeavor to bridge the gap between nano scale elementary research and the macroscopic behavior of contacting bodies. These articles showcase the breadth of questions related to the interaction of micro and macro scale and give examples of successful transfer of insights from one to the other. We are delighted to present this Research Topic to the reader with the hope that it will further inspire and stimulate research in the field.

Book Mechanics for Beginners

Download or read book Mechanics for Beginners written by Isaac Todhunter and published by . This book was released on 1882 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The present work is constructed on the same plan as the author's 'Algebra for beginners' and 'Trigonometry for beginners'; and is intended as a companion to them. It is divided into short Chapters, and a collection of Examples follows each Chapter. Some of these examples are original, and others have been selected from College and University Examination papers. The work forms an elementary treatise on demonstrative mechanics"--Page v.

Book Chaotic Mechanics in Systems with Impacts and Friction

Download or read book Chaotic Mechanics in Systems with Impacts and Friction written by Barbara Blazejczyk-Okolewska and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the theory of chaotic oscillations in mechanical systems. Detailed descriptions of the basic types of nonlinearity ? impacts and dry friction ? are presented. The properties of such behavior are discussed, and the numerical and experimental results obtained by the authors are presented. The dynamic properties of systems described here can be useful in the proper design and use of mechanics where such behavior still creates problems. This book will be very useful for anyone with a fundamental knowledge of nonlinear mechanics who is beginning research in the field.
