Book The French Verb Simplified Classic Reprint

Download or read book The French Verb Simplified Classic Reprint written by Julius Magath and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-16 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The French Verb Simplified Neither the French verb nor the verb of any language can be mastered without effort or in a very short space of time, and all promises to teach the verb at a glance are delusive. This treatise, as implied by its name, is an attempt to simplify a very important part of the French Grammar. It is not merely a theoretical exposition of the French verb, but is the result of years of practical teaching in the school room. It is published at the repeated requests of many of my former students of Emory College, and, it is hoped that it may prove useful to others also. It is not intended to take the place of a grammar, and, to encourage the use of the dictionary, the French forms are given without their English equivalents. The blank pages are intended for notes on the idiomatic uses of the different verbs. The blank index, if properly filled out, will make the notes more accessible. Book French Verbs Made Simple r

Download or read book French Verbs Made Simple r written by David Brodsky and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2009-02-17 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's time for a new approach to learning French verbs. Unlike popular verb guides that require the rote memorization of hundreds of verb forms, this book clearly explains the rules that govern the conjugation of all classes of French verbs—especially the irregular ones that give second-language learners the most trouble. These straightforward, easy-to-understand rules for conjugating French verbs are effective learning tools for both beginning students and more advanced speakers who want to perfect their usage of French verb forms. French Verbs Made Simple(r) has many helpful features that you won't find in any other verb guide: Clear explanations of all verb tenses and forms. The simple patterns and rules that govern the conjugation of all verbs—including those verbs whose irregularities follow patterns that can be easily learned. A detailed discussion of how each verb form is used, with numerous examples. A full explanation of whether a verb should be conjugated with avoir or être, and the conditions under which the past participle is variable—two of the thorniest problems for students of French. An extended treatment of the subjunctive that will help you understand why it is used in some situations but not others. Complete conjugations for 57 basic model verbs (along with 27 "variants") and a comprehensive listing of some 6,200 verbs that indicates which of the models each verb follows. Going well beyond any other guide in the clarity and detail of its explanations—as well as the innovative manner in which individual verbs are linked to model conjugations—French Verbs Made Simple(r) is the only guide to French verbs a learner needs.

Book French Verbs Simplified Vol 1 of 2

Download or read book French Verbs Simplified Vol 1 of 2 written by Hugo's Language Institute and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-24 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from French Verbs Simplified, Vol. 1 of 2: Rules for the Formation of Tenses, and Complete Tables for Reference, Showing at a Glance the Conjugation of Every Verb, Regular or Irregular This work forms one of "Hugo's Simplified Series." the chief object of which is to save the Student's time by giving no Rules but those actually necessary. In this case, however, as with "French Genders Simplified," the greater part of the book is for Reference only. The tables appended, which may be taken out and mounted, will be found specially convenient for reference, as they show at a glance every Number, Person, Mood, and Tense of every Verb, Regular or Irregular. Students should first learn the regular terminations (see page 6), referring to the Rules on the Formation of Tenses opposite. This is quickly done by taking one Tense at a time, the best order to follow being Present, Perfect, Future, Imperfect, Conditional, etc., as laid down in Hugo's "French Grammar Simplified." When the Regular Verbs have been thoroughly mastered, the Irregular Verbs present no difficulty. All that need be learnt is the irregularities of important Verbs, which are indicated by thick type. No English for the Subjunctive Mood should be learned. The translation usually given, - "that I may speak," or "might speak," is most misleading, and often absolutely wrong. The only safe way is to learn when to employ this Mood. We omit que before the French Subjunctive, as it is no part of this Mood, and neither always precedes it nor always governs it. It is advisable, however, to insert it in replies to examination questions. Fuller conjugations of the Compound Tenses, and of the Negative and Interrogative Forms, are omitted, as they require no learning whatever. The mere sight of these as given in most Grammars appals and disheartens the Student; and the formation is precisely the same throughout every Verb in the language. For the same reason, we give no list of the Verbs requiring "de" before a following Infinitive. There is no occasion to learn these Verbs, if it is borne in mind that all Verbs require "de" unless given in our Lists of those requiring "a," or no Preposition. We believe that this work will be found a great help to the beginner who has not yet mastered the Verbs, and an invaluable book of reference for the advanced Student.
