Book French for Success

Download or read book French for Success written by Philip Ejikeme and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2016-04-15 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FRENCH FOR SUCCESS is conceived to facilitate rapid mastery of the rules governing French grammar. It is the fruit of reflections on simple, but reliable methods that will enable the non-Francophone to acquire a mindset similar to that of the Francophone. To do that, we strive to simplify the conjugation of verbs, which is what makes the French language appear to be difficult. Accordingly, verbs are placed into categories, instead of groups, depending on their patterns of conjugation. Each category has a conjugation formula. A category is a group of verbs that share similar conjugation patterns in all tenses. While, traditionally, the radical of a verb is repeated six times in a conjugation, the concept exposed in these manuals seeks to use a radical once (unless it is impossible to do so, as in irregular verbs), and replace it with other radicals of the same category. As you will discover, verbs in the same categories share the same six endings which remain unchanged. Examples of radicals are: aim- from aimer; parl- from parler, écout- from écouter or donn- from donner. The groupings and their distinctive features are explained. Understanding that conjugation is just a matter of arrangement of verb endings, and knowing which verbs that belong together makes learning French much easier. Category A comprises over 4000 verbs, and one can learn their conjugation in less than 10 minutes. The curious might wonder why we prefer categories to groups. Currently, there are three main groups – namely the first group which comprises verbs ending in er; the second group which is composed of verbs ending in ir; and the third group composed of verbs ending in re. The first group alone (the er-group) comprises about 13 different groups of verbs, the radicals of which cannot mutually replace one another. We reduce them to 8. For instance, donn-, aim-, parl- and écout- can replace one another but cannot replace céd-or cèd- from céder; or jett and jet- from jeter, etc, although they all end in er and belong to the first group. In the second group, while fini- (finir), agi- (agir), and béni- (bénir) are mutually replaceable, they cannot replace sor-(sortir), par-(partir), men-(mentir); cour-(courir), secour- (secourir); or vien- and ven-(venir). We think that placing in the same group verbs whose patterns of conjugation have nothing to do with one another can lead to confusion. Similarly, in group 3, which comprises verbs ending in re, while attendre, vendre, rendre, perdre can replace one another in a conjugation, they cannot replace prendre, comprendre; and moudre, dissoudre and coudre do not even share common patterns of conjugation. Themes are selected to facilitate visual recognition. Where possible, nouns, adjectives and adverbs are grouped in a manner that help the learner distinguish the gender and number, or show them how those parts of speech are formed. The manuals are divided into four volumes for the progressive acquisition of the rules of French Grammar. While Book 1 introduces such basics as articles /gender (masculine/feminine), and nouns, prepositions, numbers, professions, book 2 seeks to consolidate the knowledge acquired earlier. Other tenses are examined in greater details. Progressively, the users build their confidence as they learn to construct correct sentences.

Book French Sentences Vol 2

Download or read book French Sentences Vol 2 written by Nik Marcel and published by 2Language Books. This book was released on with total page 1075 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FRENCH SENTENCES Vol.2: English & French THIS EDITION: The dual-language text has been arranged into sentences for quick and easy cross-referencing. The text can be used on its own. However, the content is ideal for reinforcing grammar, and as a precursor to more advanced bilingual editions. This digital edition contains the content in ‘English to French’ and ‘French to English’ formats. Once a student has studied the basics, a suitable book about basic grammar is helpful. The suggestion is that it be studied more with the intent of recognition and understanding, rather than memorising and obsessive rote learning. Go through as much of the book you feel you can digest — maybe even the whole book — skipping over what is not easily understood. Then, read through a portion of text in this book, looking for examples of what you have picked up (or gleaned) in your hopefully not so arduous study of grammar. Even repeatedly seeing a word that you remember seeing listed as a ‘subject pronoun’ or a ‘third person plural’ verb of some sort is a great help. Then, depending on your inclination, return to the grammar book (or your basic French book), or move on to lengthier bilingual text — like in 2Language Books texts containing news or stories, for example —, or find some suitable French text: a simple novel, a French news website, etc. Grammar books will likely have some verb charts. However, there are currently good on-line resources that go further — dictionaries with a verb conjugation ‘search’ option. Many basic language books offer some form of audio support. Internet services — primarily news based radio stations — offer podcasts. Audio from television is an additional resource, and can be formatted for use on various digital platforms. However, if audio is an important component of your interest in languages, electronic devices that support quality text-to-speech (TTS) will likely be appealing. With a library card, TTS technology (in a device that supports the relevant content), and the above mentioned resources, an entire language learning system is available for not much more than a cup of coffee! There is no substantial financial outlay to get you started. Furthermore, there are no additional ongoing fees (and updates), and there are no expiry dates on ‘premium’ content and resources. Book French Phrases Vol 2

Download or read book French Phrases Vol 2 written by Nik Marcel and published by 2Language Books. This book was released on 2015-09-15 with total page 1013 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: French Phrases Vol.2: English & French THIS EDITION: French Phrases seeks to bridge the gap between knowing individual words and knowing how to create or understand sentences. Sentences are phrases or a combination of phrases, and phrases are a combination of words. The simplest phrases are the simplest ways of combining words. Exposure to a wide variety of phrases, especially in increasing complexity, provides the basis for obtaining a solid grasp of a new language. The reason being, phrases can be combined with other phrases to create endless possibilities in language. French Phrases contains a wide variety of phrases, but it also demonstrates how phrases can increase in complexity – through the inclusion of individual words or other phrases. The reader can choose between four formats: Section 1: English to French Section 2: French to English Section 3: English Section 4: French The text can be used to obtain a fundamental grasp of French grammar. An understanding of the rules that underpin the way words combine into phrases, or phrases combine into sentences, allows the language learner to expand their capacity exponentially simply by increasing vocabulary. With this in mind, the text includes an introductory section summarising the important aspects of French grammar. The dual-language text has been arranged for quick and easy cross-referencing. The text can be used on its own. However, the content is ideal for reinforcing and expanding on a basic grasp of the language. With an increasingly robust grasp of the language, the language learner can easily and fruitfully move on to more advanced bilingual text — like in 2Language Books editions —, or suitable French only text: a simple novel, a French news website, etc. Many basic language books offer some form of audio support. Internet services — primarily news based radio stations — offer podcasts. Audio from television is an additional resource, and can be formatted for use on various digital platforms. The text can be used on its own. However, the content is ideal for reinforcing grammar, and as a precursor to more advanced bilingual editions. Volume 3 in this series takes a more in depth look at French grammar. It also includes some of the basic verb charts. Like in the first two volumes, the text uses a bilingual sentence structure to tackle grammar. It can be used as a primary source for grammar, or as a way for reinforcing an alternative text on grammar. However, it can also be read in a relaxed manner without endeavouring to analyse to excess, thus learning key grammatical concepts in a somewhat passive manner. The reader can choose between four formats: Section 1: English to French Section 2: French to English Section 3: English Section 4: French A methodology for getting the most out of this bilingual format is explained in the book’s Foreword. Once a student has studied the basics, a suitable book about basic grammar can be helpful.
