Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis· seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) *at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac· tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 20 (thesis year 1975) a total of 10,374 theses titles from 28 Canadian and 239 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. The organization of Volume 20 is identical to that of past years. It consists of theses titles arranged by discipline and by university within each discipline.

Book Free Vibration and Buckling Analysis of Thin Rectangular Plates with Classical Boundary Conditions Under Unilateral In plane Loads

Download or read book Free Vibration and Buckling Analysis of Thin Rectangular Plates with Classical Boundary Conditions Under Unilateral In plane Loads written by David J. Michelussi and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interest in the free vibration of thin rectangular plates has emerged due to the rapid growth in computer technology. Delicate electronic components mounted on circuit boards may be placed in environments under dynamic loadings. The designer may need to control the natural frequency or mode shape of a specific board if a known excitation is causing reliability problems in the hardware. Fortunately, constant in-plane loads can be applied to the plate, affecting its stiffness, and hence dynamic characteristics. This method of control is convenient since the circuit board does not need to be redesigned. The method of superposition is used to obtain analytical-type solutions for the free vibration of thin rectangular plates under constant in-plane loads in this thesis. A total of nine plate configurations are examined, each of which possess at least one free edge. Eight building blocks are derived and used to solve the plates under consideration. Each building block solution is of the Levy-type and is analytically exact. Since plate buckling is a limiting case of plate vibration, the solutions obtained can also be used to solve plate buckling problems. Results are calculated for nine plate aspect ratios. Buckling loads, frequencies, and mode shapes are shown. Excellent agreement is found in comparisons with other solution methods.

Book Free Vibration of Rectangular Plates with a Small Initial Curvature

Download or read book Free Vibration of Rectangular Plates with a Small Initial Curvature written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-07 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The method of matched asymptotic expansions is used to solve the transverse free vibration of a slightly curved, thin rectangular plate. Analytical results for natural frequencies and mode shapes are presented in the limit when the dimensionless bending rigidity, epsilon, is small compared with in-plane forces. Results for different boundary conditions are obtained when the initial deflection is: (1) a polynomial in both directions, and (2) the product of a polynomial and a trigonometric function, and arbitrary. For the arbitrary initial deflection case, the Fourier series technique is used to define the initial deflection. The results obtained show that the natural frequencies of vibration of slightly curved plates are coincident with those of perfectly flat, prestressed rectangular plates. However, the eigenmodes are very different from those of initially flat prestressed rectangular plates. The total deflection is found to be the sum of the initial deflection, the deflection resulting from the solution of the flat plate problem, and the deflection resulting from the static problem. Book Probabilistic and Convex Modelling of Acoustically Excited Structures

Download or read book Probabilistic and Convex Modelling of Acoustically Excited Structures written by I. Elishakoff and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarises the analytical techniques for predicting the response of linear structures to noise excitations generated by large propulsion power plants. Emphasis is placed on beams and plates of both single-span and multi-span configurations, common in engineering structural systems. Since the natural frequencies and the associated normal modes play a central role in the random vibration analysis of a continuous dynamical system, rather detailed discussions are devoted to their determination. Material covered in the first chapter provides a useful reference for the subsequent discussion of multi-span structures. Also included in this volume is a hybrid probabilistic and convex-uncertainty modeling approach in which the upper and lower bounds of the cross-spectral densities of the acoustic excitation are obtained on the basis of measured data. The random vibration of a structure is treated, for the first time, as an "anti-optimization" problem of finding the least favourable value of the mean-square response.

Book Vibration Analysis of Plates by the Superposition Method

Download or read book Vibration Analysis of Plates by the Superposition Method written by Daniel J. Gorman and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beginning with a thorough and lucid introduction to the superposition method as it applies to free vibration of thin isotropic rectangular plates, with all combinations of classical boundary conditions, the book describes procedures for handling vast families of realistic practical plate vibration problems. These include orthotropic plates, point-supported plates, plates resting on elastic edge supports, plates with in-plane forces, buckling of plates, etc. The reader is subsequently introduced to utilization of the superposition method for the analysis of thick Mindlin plates as well as transverse-shear-deformable laminated plates. Particular emphasis is placed on plate free vibration analysis, with a list of pertinent publications attached to each chapter.

Book Effect of Various Edge Conditions on Free Vibration Characteristics of Isotropic Square and Rectangular Plates

Download or read book Effect of Various Edge Conditions on Free Vibration Characteristics of Isotropic Square and Rectangular Plates written by Muzamal Hussain and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this chapter, vibrations of isotropic rectangular plates have been analyzed by applying the wave propagation approach. The plate problem has been expressed in integral form by considering the strain and kinetic energies. The Hamilton's principle has been applied to transform the integral form into the partial differential equation of second order. The classical method namely product method has been used to separate independent variables. The partial differential equation has converted into the ordinary differential equations. The axial wave numbers are associated with particular boundary conditions. This is an approximate technique, which is based on eigenvalues of characteristic beam functions. The natural frequencies of plates are investigated versus modal numbers by varying the length and width of the plates with simply supported-simply supported (SS-SS), clamped-clamped (CC-CC), and simply supported-clamped (SS-CC) boundary conditions. The frequencies of the plates increase by increasing the modal number, and CC-CC frequencies are greater than the frequencies of other boundary conditions. Computational computer software MATLAB is engaged to characterize the frequencies. The results are compared with the earlier simulation work in order to test the accuracy and efficiency of the present method.
