Book Free flight Range Measurements of Sphere Drag at Low Reynolds Numbers and Low Mach Numbers

Download or read book Free flight Range Measurements of Sphere Drag at Low Reynolds Numbers and Low Mach Numbers written by and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The drag coefficients of spheres were obtained from free-flight range tests of metal spheres at Reynolds numbers from 185 to 11,600 and at Mach numbers from 0.17 to 0.99. An analysis of the data indicates that the total errors in the measured drag coefficients are within +2 or -2 percent. (Author).

Book Sphere Drag in a Low Density Supersonic Flow

Download or read book Sphere Drag in a Low Density Supersonic Flow written by Jerome Aroesty and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sphere drag coefficients were measured in the Berkeley Low Density Wind Tunnel at Mach equals 2, 4, and 6, and free stream Reynolds numbers between 10 and 10,000 for both insulated and cold wall conditions. The measurements indicate that sphere drag in this regime is strongly dependent on the Reynolds number behind a normal shock wave, and only weakly dependent on Mach number. In addition, it was found that a decrease in wall temperature/stagnation temperature (T sub w/T sub o) from 1 to 0.26 was accompanied by a 5 - 10% decrease in the drag coefficient. A precision microbalance was used to obtain data for insulated spheres, and a moving model technique was used to obtain data for small spheres falling freely through a wind tunnel jet. These latter tests were performed using both cold and insulated models. The results on insulated spheres at M equal 2 and 4 were in good agreement with the measurements of other investigators. The results of the cold wall tests indicate that for Mach numbers greater than 5 in air, sphere drag coefficients are a function only of T sub w/T sub o and the post normal shock Reynolds number. Book Some Sphere Drag Measurements in Low Density Shock Tunnel Flows

Download or read book Some Sphere Drag Measurements in Low Density Shock Tunnel Flows written by R. E. Geiger and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The free flight technique was extended to low density flows to measure sphere drag at approximately Mach 15 over a free stream Knudsen number range of .0027 to .25. Comparison of the data obtained with those of other investigators indcates that : a) The free flight technique is useful for shock tunnel measurements of aerodynamic forces in non-continuum flows. b) There is little to choose from between Kn[subscript infinity], Re[subscript infinity], Re2 as a correlating variable for experimental sphere drag coefficients. (c) The parameter C [subscript D] - C [subscript Di] over C [subscript Dfm] - C [subscriptDi] yields a useful correlatin of sphere drag over a wide range of Mach numbers, Reynolds number and wall temperatures.
