Book Free Convection Heat Transfer to Horizontal Cylinders from an Ordinary Fluid Containing a Volume Heat Source thesis

Download or read book Free Convection Heat Transfer to Horizontal Cylinders from an Ordinary Fluid Containing a Volume Heat Source thesis written by and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Outside heat transfer coefficients for several horizontal tubes cooling an ordinary fluid containing a volume heat source by free convection were obtained experimentally. Water was used as the coolant, and a very dilute solution of HC1 was the bulk fluid. The basic equipment included a Lucite test cell which contained the bulk fluid, Cu screen grids through which an alternating current was passed to generate a volume heat source in the bulk and several horizontal 1/4 in. O.D. stainless steel tubes through which the coolant was pumped. Experiments were conducted using a single-tube, four-tube, and five-tube geometry. The heat transfer coefficients obtained were considered accurate within 8%. With single-tube cooling, the heat transfer coefficients were correlated by Nu = 0.49 (Gr Pr)/sup 1/4/. With four cooling tubes, the data were correlated by Nu = 0.59 (Gr Pr)/sup 1/4/, while with five cooling tubes the value of the coefficients in the correlation equation was Nu = 0.64 (Gr Pr)/sup 1/4/. Book Nuclear Science Abstracts

Download or read book Nuclear Science Abstracts written by and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 808 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NSA is a comprehensive collection of international nuclear science and technology literature for the period 1948 through 1976, pre-dating the prestigious INIS database, which began in 1970. NSA existed as a printed product (Volumes 1-33) initially, created by DOE's predecessor, the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). NSA includes citations to scientific and technical reports from the AEC, the U.S. Energy Research and Development Administration and its contractors, plus other agencies and international organizations, universities, and industrial and research organizations. References to books, conference proceedings, papers, patents, dissertations, engineering drawings, and journal articles from worldwide sources are also included. Abstracts and full text are provided if available.

Book Convective Heat Transfer

Download or read book Convective Heat Transfer written by I. Pop and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-02-23 with total page 673 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interest in studying the phenomena of convective heat and mass transfer between an ambient fluid and a body which is immersed in it stems both from fundamental considerations, such as the development of better insights into the nature of the underlying physical processes which take place, and from practical considerations, such as the fact that these idealised configurations serve as a launching pad for modelling the analogous transfer processes in more realistic physical systems. Such idealised geometries also provide a test ground for checking the validity of theoretical analyses. Consequently, an immense research effort has been expended in exploring and understanding the convective heat and mass transfer processes between a fluid and submerged objects of various shapes. Among several geometries which have received considerable attention are plates, circular and elliptical cylinders, and spheres, although much information is also available for some other bodies, such as corrugated surfaces or bodies of relatively complicated shapes. The book is a unified progress report which captures the spirit of the work in progress in boundary-layer heat transfer research and also identifies potential difficulties and areas for further study. In addition, this work provides new material on convective heat and mass transfer, as well as a fresh look at basic methods in heat transfer. Extensive references are included in order to stimulate further studies of the problems considered. A state-of-the-art picture of boundary-layer heat transfer today is presented by listing and commenting also upon the most recent successful efforts and identifying the needs for further research.

Book Treatise on Geophysics Volume 7

Download or read book Treatise on Geophysics Volume 7 written by David Bercovici and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2010-05-17 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Treatise on Geophysics: Mantle Dynamics, Volume 7 aims to provide both a classical and state-of-the-art introduction to the methods and science of mantle dynamics, as well as survey leading order problems (both solved and unsolved) and current understanding of how the mantle works. It is organized around two themes: (1) how is mantle convection studied; and (2) what do we understand about mantle dynamics to date. The first four chapters are thus concerned with pedagogical reviews of the physics of mantle convection; laboratory studies of the fluid dynamics of convection relevant to the mantle; theoretical analysis of mantle dynamics; and numerical analysis and methods of mantle convection. The subsequent chapters concentrate on leading issues of mantle convection itself, which include the energy budget of the mantle; the upper mantle and lithosphere in and near the spreading center (mid-ocean ridge) environment; the dynamics of subducting slabs; hot spots, melting anomalies, and mantle plumes; and finally, geochemical mantle dynamics and mixing. Self-contained volume starts with an overview of the subject then explores each topic in detail Extensive reference lists and cross references with other volumes to facilitate further research Full-color figures and tables support the text and aid in understanding Content suited for both the expert and non-expert
