Book Early Mongol Rule in Thirteenth Century Iran

Download or read book Early Mongol Rule in Thirteenth Century Iran written by George E. Lane and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2003-09-01 with total page 670 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An account of the re-emergence of Persia as a world player and the reassertion of its cultural, political and spiritual links with Turkic Lands, this book opposes the way in which, for too long, the whole period of Mongol domination of Iran has been viewed from a negative standpoint. Though arguably the initial irruption of the Mongols brought little comfort to those in its path, this is not the case with the second 'invasion' of the Chinggisids. This study demonstrates that Hülegü Khan was welcomed as a king and a saviour after the depredations of his predecessors, rather than as a conqueror, and that the initial decades of his dynasty's rule were characterised by a renaissance in the cultural life of the Iranian plateau.

Book Giacomo Zabarella De rebus naturalibus 2 vols

Download or read book Giacomo Zabarella De rebus naturalibus 2 vols written by José Manuel García Valverde and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2016-02-02 with total page 1301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Giacomo Zabarella (1533-1589) was a Renaissance Aristotelian who enjoyed extraordinary prestige in life, especially in the fields of logic and natural philosophy. The De rebus naturalibus libri XXX was completed by Zabarella at the very end of his life: the dedicatory letter to Pope Sixtus V is dated just a month before his death. This writing had great impact and a large influence, as its editorial success in Italy and abroad (especially in Germany) reflects. It represents a massive effort to collect all the issues that come under the heading of “natural philosophy” and that had been taking shape from antiquity to the time of Zabarella within the vast and multifarious field of Aristotelianism: hence its encyclopedic character and extraordinary extension.

Book True Bugs Heteroptera of the Neotropics

Download or read book True Bugs Heteroptera of the Neotropics written by Antônio R. Panizzi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-09-29 with total page 904 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: True bugs (Heteroptera) are a diverse and complex group of plant-feeding and predatory insects important to food production, human health, the global economy and the environment. Within the nearly 43,000 species described around the world, Neotropical true bugs are particularly diverse, and much remains to be discovered about their biology and relations with other species. Inspired by the need for a comprehensive assessment, True Bugs (Heteroptera) of the Neotropics is the most complete and thorough review ever published. Experts in each of the seven infraorders have drawn together the scattered literature to provide detailed treatments of each major taxon. The most common and important species as well as select lesser known species in each major family are covered, highlighting morphology, classification, biology and ecology. The numerous color illustrations highlight key species and their adaptations, and importance to basic and applied sciences is discussed. Each chapter is based on an up-to-date review of the literature, and with a bibliography of more than 3,000 references, readers are presented with an unprecedented and vital and timely account of the true bugs of the Neotropical Region.

Book Handbook of Soybean Insect Pests

Download or read book Handbook of Soybean Insect Pests written by Leon G. Higley and published by Entomological Society of America. This book was released on 1994-09-28 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook of Soybean Insect Pests is the first book in a new series from the Entomological Society of America that examines pest management from all angles—magnifying practical field strategies for growers—and updates growers on the latest protection techniques—preventing needless crop loss as a result of outdated pest control procedures. Edited by Leon G. Higley and David J. Boethel, this book outlines fundamental approaches to soybean pest management that can aid in reducing crop damage and loss. It provides detailed descriptions of topics such as insect identification, life-history data, and management options. This comprehensive guide includes discussions on soybean ecology and physiology, soybean insect pests, predators and parasitoids, soybean pest management procedures, noninsect soybean pests, and insect management. Also included are 92 color photographs, 200 illustrations, a directory of resources for obtaining local information, and a glossary.

Book Sampling Methods in Soybean Entomology

Download or read book Sampling Methods in Soybean Entomology written by M. Kogan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 597 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Insects as a group occupy a middle ground in the biosphere between bacteria and viruses at one extreme, amphibians and mammals at the other. The size and gen eral nature of insects present special problems to the student of entomology. For example, many commercially available instruments are geared to measure in grams, while the forces commonly encountered in studying insects are in the mil ligram range. Therefore, techniques developed in the study of insects or in those fields concerned with the control of insect pests are often unique. Methods for measuring things are common to all sciences. Advances sometimes depend more on how something was done than on what was measured; indeed a given field often progresses from one technique to another as new methods are discovered, developed, and modified. Just as often, some of these techniques fmd their way into the classroom when the problems involved have been suffici ently ironed out to permit students to master the manipulations in a few labo ratory periods. Many specialized techniques are confined to one specific research laboratory. Although methods may be considered commonplace where they are used, in another context even the simplest procedures may save considerable time. It is the purpose of this series (1) to report new developments in methodology, (2) to reveal sources of groups who have dealt with and solved particular entomological problems, and (3) to describe experiments which might be applicable for use in biology laboratory courses.
