Book The Politics of Legitimation in the European Union

Download or read book The Politics of Legitimation in the European Union written by Christopher Lord and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-04-19 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines and investigates the legitimacy of the European Union by acknowledging the importance of variation across actors, institutions, audiences, and context. Case studies reveal how different actors have contributed to the politics of (re)legitimating the European Union in response to multiple recent problems in European integration. The case studies look specifically at stakeholder interests, social groups, officials, judges, the media and other actors external to the Union. With this, the book develops a better understanding of how the politics of legitimating the Union are actor-dependent, context-dependent and problem-dependent. This book will be of key interest to scholars and students of European integration, as well as those interested in legitimacy and democracy beyond the state from a point of view of political science, political sociology and the social sciences more broadly.

Book The Road to Dunkirk

  • Author : Charles More
  • Publisher : Frontline Books
  • Release : 2013-11-04
  • ISBN : 1848327331
  • Pages : 282 pages

Download or read book The Road to Dunkirk written by Charles More and published by Frontline Books. This book was released on 2013-11-04 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an important reassessment of a critical period in the British Expeditionary Force's fight against the German armies invading France in 1940. On 25 May Lord Gort, the British commander, took the decision to move 5th Division north in order to plug a growing gap in his Army's eastern defences. Over the next three days the division fought a little-known engagement, the Battle of the Ypres-Comines Canal, to hold the Germans at bay while the rest of the BEF retreated towards Dunkirk.??The book describes the British Army of 1940 and outlines the early stages of the campaign before explaining the context of Gort's decision and why it was made. Then, using British and German sources, it shows how the British doggedly defended their line against heavy German attacks, and demonstrates that the Expeditionary Force was far more than the badly equipped and undertrained army which many historians have represented it as. This fresh look at the campaign also casts new light on other aspects such as the impact of the Luftwaffe and the Dunkirk evacuation itself.??As seen in Britain At War Magazine.

Book Criminal Justice in International Society

Download or read book Criminal Justice in International Society written by Willem de Lint and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-01-03 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book adopts a critical criminological approach to analyze the production, representation and role of crime in the emerging international order. It analyzes the role of power and its influence on the dynamics of criminalization at an international level, facilitating an examination of the geopolitics of international criminal justice. Such an approach to crime is well-developed in domestic criminology; however, this critical approach is yet to be used to explore the relationship between power, crime and justice in an international setting. This book brings together contrasting opinions on how courts, prosecutors, judges, NGOs, and other bodies act to reflexively produce the social reality of international justice. In doing this, it bridges the gaps between the fields of sociology, criminology, international relations, political science, and international law to explore the problems and prospects of international criminal justice and illustrate the role of crime and criminalization in a complex, evolving, and contested international society.

Book French language Road Cinema

Download or read book French language Road Cinema written by Gott Michael Gott and published by Edinburgh University Press. This book was released on 2016-05-31 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past two decades road cinema has become an increasingly popular form of expression for European directors. Focusing on a corpus of films from France, Belgium and Switzerland, including works by Ismael Ferroukhi, Bouli Lanners, Aki Kaurismaki and Jacqueline Audry amongst many others, French-language Road Cinema contends that nowhere is the impulse to remap the spaces and identities of 'New Europe' more evident than in French-language cinema. Drawing on mobility studies, cultural geography and film theory, this innovative work sketches out the flexible yet distinctive parameters of contemporary French-language road cinema, and argues for an understanding of the 'road movie' not as a genre but as a thematic and formal template that crosses cinematic categories to bring together a wide array of films that narrate the movements of migrants, tourists and business executives.

Book Along the Road

    Book Details:
  • Author : Lutz Klassen
  • Publisher : Aarhus Universitetsforlag
  • Release : 2014-10-27
  • ISBN : 877184595X
  • Pages : 330 pages

Download or read book Along the Road written by Lutz Klassen and published by Aarhus Universitetsforlag. This book was released on 2014-10-27 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume takes a new look at causewayed enclosures in South Scandinavia based on a research area restricted to the Djursland Peninsula in eastern Jutland. The Djursland Peninsula in eastern Jutland was selected as region of concentration because of the richness of the region in terms of megalithic graves and burial mounds and because it has the largest number by far of known Neolithic enclosures within the northern TRB Group distribution area. Given that the awareness of as many enclosures as possible is necessary in any attempt to evaluate their significance for Neolithic societies within a given area, a major part of this work is devoted to the development of predictive modelling for the detection of enclosures in the landscape. It is only in relation to this step that it is possible to engage with such questions as the reasons for which certain locations were chosen as enclosure sites and how these relate to the history of Neolithic settlement within the wider region. The latter is at the heart of practically all settlement archaeological studies of the period under consideration in South Scandinavia. However, it has never been critically reviewed nor tested by comparisons with the results from other regions. A separate section is devoted to examining the European dimension of the Scandinavian enclosures in closer detail.

Book excerpt: Following the Lisbon Treaty, the powers of the European Parliament in external relations have gradually expanded and it is increasingly influencing the foreign policy of the European Union. It explores different policy areas including human rights, international aid, trade, crisis management and the environment to provide a systematic analysis of the modern global role of the European Parliament. The book also considers the European Parliament’s regional interactions with Africa, Latin America, the United States, Asia and the Middle East. Book Transboundary Marine Spatial Planning and International Law

Download or read book Transboundary Marine Spatial Planning and International Law written by Daud Hassan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-07-16 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) is an integrated and comprehensive approach to ocean governance and is used to establish a rational use of marine space and reconcile conflicting interests of its users. MSP allows both a high level of environmental protection and a wide range of human activities and emphasizes coordinated networks of national, regional and global institutions. This book focuses on the framework of international law behind MSP and especially on the transboundary aspects of MSP. It first sets out a general framework for transboundary MSP and then moves on to compare and assess differences and similarities between different regions. Specific detailed case studies include the EU with the focus on the Baltic Sea and North Sea, the Bay of Bengal and Great Barrier Reef in Australia. The authors examine the national and regional significance of MSP from an integrated and sustainable ocean governance point of view. They also show how transboundary MSP can create opportunities and positive initiatives for cross-border cooperation and contribute to the effective protection of the regional marine environment.

The book shows that IFRS should act as a singular accounting language, which will promote high transparency and a better economic position in the world financial market.
